We have a casual atmosphere and usually packed. it is very common to lay down so people can sit behind you and then people stand behind them...or to lay down so you can see the grips hes working on the bottom etc.
Excellent technique I keep watching periodically for the little details! I use this and a couple variations our coach taught us in GB Advanced class to make it part of my game. One can get the underarm lapel grip in guard, half guard, side control (which you can move to knee on belly of course), and in any of those positions it provides great control and submission opportunities, especially if there's trouble getting inside the gi for collar chokes. I've found it's also a great distractor when trying to set up other techniques.
@Mataleaoexpert I agree, I am a 2nd strip white belt and my professor who is the best 2nd degree blackbelt in all of New england (in competition mostly) and one of the best teachers never cares about me laying down or sitting side to side. Its all about relaxing before you're next roll.
@Mataleaoexpert I agree 100% ... making a big deal out of the way a student sits ??? I cant believe that... I mean surely if his professor felt it as a sign of disrespect, he would have corrected it ... my teacher has never come down on anyone for sitting 'incorrectly' ... Draculino is a legend ... any of his student are as lucky as they come to have the opportunity to train with such a master ... Respect coming from Gracie Barra South Africa, Cape Town
Wow that is a pretty sweet lapel choke draculino is awesome, i wonder how fast this can be put on tho in a tough spot. My 2nd degree prof gets these type on me all the time but never done this. Lol
Sensei Rich The lapel is a good control so that he can't hip out and take your back as you reach inside for the choke. I'm also confused as to how you can do a baseball choke when you're stuck in half guard, maybe you can show me a video?
ElephantRage - its common for people to gather around and lay down/kneel down when in the front so people behind can see. We are often invited to gather around.
A question: What is the advantage of going to the trouble of using the lower lapel as opposed to just using the collar/lapel for a regular baseball choke?
Haha ok buddy. Keep thinking that way. Or you can just come down to my gym and see. Tons of kids would be glad to do it if I can't. That are white belts. The strip system makes sense it shows progression through the ranks. Makes sense to me but according to you're logic. Army ranks should be the same thing then? e4, e5, e6 specialist..according to you. Its only there to keep them "happy"
i love this choke. this is the first submission i ever hit on one of my professors. he even complimented me afterward so obviously i was elated.
He let u do it to him lol

A lot of lapel chokes are hard to get. This one looks like it might work.

@DraculinoTeamTx where in texas do you teach? I am in houston and I am looking for a place to train.

Sensei Rich he can't get you're back with the lapel
He basically answered it in the video by showing that his back couldn't get taken with the lapel control.
The white belt behind is in beach mood :))
Awesome vid. I can use this in practice.

The kid in the background should show his professor some respect and act like he's alive
Una falta de respeto con el profesor ese blanco acostado al fondo recibiendo la clase
