Saw him live last night in my hometown in Northern Italy. I'm speechless. He performed several tunes by Purcell. Second half of the programme was Mozart, plus 5 encores. They retuned the piano between the 2 parts. I'm not 100% sure, but I reckon the piano was tuned at 432hz, anyway at a lower pitch, to give that harpsichord-like flavour to the tunes by the baroque composer.
He's in his element in this kind of repertoire and his chrystalline translucency of tone brings out the otherworldliness of this sublime music.
The beauty of Sokolov's Purcell is ineffable... 3:15 to 3:25 alone can transport one to another world...
The chaconne is played so perfectly it is unbelievable.
