The Jackson 5 used a lot of clavinet on their early 70's songs, like Dancing Machine. Michael did too, in his first album Got To Be There, it's used in pretty much every song.
The iconic Superstition sound is actually two different Clavinet parts. Stevie Wonder released mp3s of the multitrack master to serve as a challenge to anyone interested in mixing and DJing. Listening to them separately it's clear that one is the lead and the other filler but they both combine to be something greater than the individual parts.
@@husq48Pianote has a video of his touring keyboardist showing off the song - so she could obviously play the second part, plus she mentions that one part gets played on guitar. I imagine if Stevie had to play it on his own, he has enough funk in his body that he could make it sound good with one part.
Claudio, I think you've just produced the best Skillshare advert that's ever been made. They will love you for it! Super fun and informative as always, you are a treasure! Bravo!
How weird, when you started the narration I thought, ‘this sounds like Alex Ball’, whom I also subscribe to. And sure enough it was! Expertly delivered by Dr Mix
The Clav showed up in lots of different genres from arena rock (Foreigner's "Cold as Ice") to Country (Charlie Daniel's "The Devil Went Down to Georgia"). Fortunately, most digital synths have a range of very convincing clav sounds, so you have to be a real purist to insist on an original.
Foreigner used the Clavinet a lot on their first album. I saw them very early in their career, and they used to have THREE of them on stage: one for the keyboard player, Al Greenwood, and one each for guitarists Mick Jones and Ian McDonald. They often played two of them in song intros, and even all three in one song (The Damage Is Done).
I just came across this video through pure incidence. Actually I've always asked myself what a Clavinet is and where it came from. Everybody knows the Rhodes piano. Thanks for going into such details with it. Das war sehr interessant, vielen Dank!
Sun Ra was a very early adapter of the clavinet. He called it the "solar sound instrument"! He made some amazing records with it in the 60's and 70's that folks should check out if they dig the sound.
I called the Homer harmonica factory in Germany in 1975 from my dad’s office when I was ten. Mountain bell ran a credit check on me and since my father and I had the same name and they agreed to make the call, no one seemed to notice I was a child. I got a hold of a guy who spoke english and tried to get him to say how to bend a note and got nowhere with that and all it cost was $100.
the clavinet has been on my wish list for three decades. never found one i could afford. and still, they are really expensive in good working order. i'ld love to find a wreck to restore myself in order to own one. this iconic sound is fantastic.
everybody pays homage to doctor mix for his fantastic promo, but not everybody knows that Italians have been raised in the vocoder magic italo disco and his generation dreamed see advertises jingles masterpieces as lo- love-love-lovable-looovable made with roland. Anyway thank you arturia for the Clavinet vst and him for this outstanding video
You left out the part about the cabinets that were left around after everybody got sick of them, and their neoprene hammers got sticky, which gave the instrument a particular double struck sound, so that keyboards that have Clavinet copies in their software often offer Clavinet, Clavinet, classic, and Clavinet retro.
Best skill share promo I’ve seen on the web. PERIOD!..
FOREEAL
yes it is!! ahaha Damn almost clicked on the link at the end xDD
Totally. If all advertisement worked like this, I wouldn't mind it.

This video was different... I like it A LOT!!!!

What a clav-er chap you are. 😃
Haha omg 😆
Hahahaha, well played sir, well played.

How did he pull it off live?

Foreigner's "Long, Long, Way From Home" utilized the instrument as well.
Excellent video. Thank you.

Damn Claudios! That intro was smooth i could listen to you make a full version of that lol great video.
Wow, I'm tempted to get one. Imagine playing Bach on the clavinet (and playing stevie wonder on a clavichord)!

Scripted by Alex Ball!!!!!!!!! Do collabs get any better than that? Hard to imagine. For the love of keys, OMG!
One of my favorite instruments since I was a little kid (late '60s/early '70s). Terry Adams of NRBQ deserves a shout-out.
Won’t you take me to…”the presumably not funky town!” 🎶
Incredible video! Please do more like this!

Clavinet made the 1970's music special. Stevie wonder's superstition got the music industry on board. Thank you for the video.👍
Great video. My favorite Hohner instrument is the pianet. Theres also a pianet/clavinet combo keyboard.
Check out 'Herbie Hanckock and the Headhunters' for peak Clavinet goodness
Excellent video!
Keith Emerson and "Tank" Solo on Clavinet, oh god
I just came across this video through pure incidence. Actually I've always asked myself what a Clavinet is and where it came from. Everybody knows the Rhodes piano. Thanks for going into such details with it. Das war sehr interessant, vielen Dank!
Clavinet was also used in heavy rock, particularly Deep Purple (Stormbringer album), and Rainbow (first album)
Vintage Vibe just came out with the Vibanet (their Electric Clavichord) which is lighter weight and it has Clavigel to help with restringing.
I got one for free today! Lots of notes don't work but I plan on fixing it. Very epic day
Grazie Doctor Mix anche per questo video. Apprezzo molto la tua "modalità" di comunicare la musica.
You ain’t lived til you’ve seen Dr Mix play the Blue Danube on the ah-cor-deen. You teaser, play more!!!
Just few seconds into the video and I was like: "What the funk...?"
Pho.. o.. o.. to graphy!
My favorite song featuring a Hohner Clavinet, would hands down have to be "Nutrocker" by Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Funkiest x-mas song ever, imo!
Great video!!!

Don’t forget Blue Oyster Cult - Lonely Teardrops off their Mirrors album, 1978
Dr. Mix and Alex Ball colab? LIKE!
The instrument is perfect for funk, since it has a weird sound perfect for more rhythmic playing.
Great video!!!! So funny!
Tnx for great vid

Iove this instrument from stevie

The amount of effort put into the end of the video is amazing! The song mixed with the video was so good!
How cool is this Advertisement 😂😂
Cool instrument Claudio, a classic sound for sure... and yeah, Alex Ball's channel is really good too.
Wait what 1:29 ??? Keep young and gay?
>born in Germany in 1924

*heads over to the Ernst Zacharias wikipedia page, sees it is fairly empty*

The black keys are the only ones you should use on a clavinet 😎

This was super interesting. Do a video on the history of the Rhodes next please!
i think the only song i really know that has clavinet is lapti nek from return of the jedi.
1:28 - *"Keep YOUNG and GAY!"* 🤣😂 You can't make this shit up. Seriously, how do I stop laughing?!?
What a brilliant video. And you're disgustingly talented. Just subscribed...
HAHAHA the ad should be played on TV!
oh this is a string instrument??
I loved that clavinet sound in the 70's and still do. Luckily, modern synths have fairly good patches for it.
Stevie Wonder use the Clavinet D6 and playing the "Supersition" song, so it is true Doctor Mix ?
Good Day Sir, Do You Know What Instrument were used in this 80's non-stop Medley @t any Idea? Thank You & More Power To Your Channel
You look like Jacksepticeye if he went into Music instead of Gaming. Also, the best Skillshare promo I've ever seen!!
Die DEUTSCHEN sind die BESTEN ))))))))))))))))))))))))
Neumunster may not have been funky, but a few miles further east, and Ernst Zacharias would have been born in the even less funky Wankendorf...
That Skillshare promos going to be an earworm.
Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, Billy Preston...
