This game is really stupid when you think about it. We're meant to believe that small, landlocked african nations that hadn't invented the wheel can somehow, over the course of 3 generations, master steam engines. Paradox is pathetic sometimes.

It didn't use to be like that, I played EU3 and it tried to be simulationist. They're so affraid to look racist they just threw out realism out the window and the game is just plain stupid because of it.

Fun fact: the two lake country province will become the richest province in Africa in mid-end game (yes, even surpassing Lower Egypt). This is because there is a lot of small nation and each have 10 free construction.

If you ever end up in this region of Africa again, I think you can skip on rushing Quinine to make colonization viable assuming your primary culture has a homeland in a state you want to colonize with Malaria. The effects of Malaria only affect you if it's non-homeland so it should mean if you have a homeland in the area you can colonize it much faster without needing to get Quinine.

In case you didn't know, malaria debuffs apply in NON-HOMELAND regions, which means that you have no debuffs in homeland regions! So primary cultures are important especially for african nations
For example, if I remember correctly Acholi can colonize Rift Valley at full speed without Quinine

That also seems pretty powerful for the Kongo since no one can colonize properly there before malaria prevention
