I cared for my wife for seven yers till she passed . You learn to appreciate the brief moments of connection, those hugs and kisses are forever burnt in my heart and memory. A beautiful song that captures the essence of living with a loved one who has any of the dementias ...
Fish was the first Marillion's singer. He left in 1988, after his last contribution for Marillion, Clutching at straws and made a great solo career with lots of gorgeous and intense albums, like Vigil in a wilderness of mirrors, Sunsets on empire (produced with Steven Wilson), Raingods with zippos, Fields of crows, 13th star, A feast of consequences and this last album Weltschmerz. I recommend you "Cliché" (the best way to offer a song to one's lover) from the first solo album but there so many good songs on each of all the albums I've mentioned. Enjoy the great world of Fish's music. The video is gorgeous and touching, lots of graphic references to his story with Marillion and in solo, the ying and yang fishes illustration is magnificent. The illustrations were from Mark Wilkinson, who designed the first 4 cover for Marillion and all the Fish solo artworks.
A great voice. First heard Marillion in 1983 at aged 15 . Not my favourite songs back in the day . But in 85 ? Well ready. This man is wonderful. What a fucking voice
Wow I've watched this several times now. Such a beautiful and moving song. Thank you for sharing this. Also thank you to you & your subscribers for sharing your insights to this song and Fish the artist. I knew absolutely nothing about him. I Definitely have to check out more of his music.
The best reaction video I've seen! Listened respectfully and gave carefully considered thoughts afterwards. This song has greater meaning now as my Dad has been diagnosed with this condition.
If you search age uk, Love, loss and remembrance, you'll find an interview with Fish about Garden of Remembrance and the album it's on. In it he talks about his mothers cognitive decline that inspired the song and his own fears for the years ahead.
I looked after my dad with dementia for 4 years as well as having a full time job. I couldn't deal with stress of it anymore so he had to go into a carehome. I never wanted to do that and take him away from his familiar place where he was comfortable with but i had no choice. Even family that lived 5 minute walk away didn't want to help me
Hi, what a great song and reaction, glad you've ventured onto Fish, his debut album is superb and the title track "Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors" that opens the album is a classic, highly recommend that as well as a few other tracks from the album: "Big Wedge", "A Gentleman's excuse me" and "View from the Hill", Best Wishes
@@SummerMcGaha Thank you for your kind words they mean a lot. I am glad to see your appreciation and love for the music of Marillion and Fish. I have loved this music for 39 years!
Wow.... Your on fish now , this song is super heavy & beautiful, the art Work is Marillion Singles and fish solo stuff , this is from his last album Weltschmerz , You should check (Title Track) Video out , super cool groove for your last track on your last album. Also check out , 'Gentlemens Excuse Me' / 'State Of Mind' / ( 'Family Business' this one will get you thinking & talking ) .Take Care.
I lost my mum to Alzheimers several years ago, after an extended period of decline. Both the song and video sum up the experience for both the sufferer and their family. To describe it as "memory loss" doesn't even come close to explaining it, since the personality changes (often for the worse) and they eventually fail to recognise even their closest family. But occasionally (and increasingly infrequently) there is a "break in the clouds" and for a brief period your loved one is back, but only for seconds or minutes... This is represented by scene in the video when a small break appears in the barrier (and the associated lyrics). I doubt anyone who has had a loved one go through this could listen to this song and not tear up.
There a number of Fish memories in the video. Even a boy on the beach in the background playing out a scene from the Marillion, Kayleigh video. Interpretations of this song ultimately come down to Alzheimers the pain and then the occasional moments of clarity. Nice reaction. This album will be his last, and it's a good one. Still Kean for live Gaza, This Strange engine and Out of this world.
I had no idea. So then when the couple are separated on the beach and can't contact each other, it's symbolic of losing grasp of memories? Also, my reaction to Out Of This World live is going to be uploaded in two days.
@@SummerMcGaha Yes this song is about Alzheimer's. The small gap in the beach wall symbolises the brief moment of recollection of past memories. I think Fish wrote this about his father, and how his remembrance of family gradually disappeared. A very sad song with beautiful lyrics and amazing visuals.
The video was directed by Mark Wilkinson's daughter. Mark Wilkinson is the guy who did the Marillion (Fish-era) and all Fish's album covers. A genius, if you ask me! Great song, great album ("Weltschmerz", his best along with "Vigil" and "Suits", in my opinion), great singer, great lyricist. FISH RULES.
Although, as previously mentioned, this song is about dementia an argument could be made that it is about how we cope with the ghosts in our life. By Ghosts, I don't mean the 'things that go bump in the night.' I mean the ghosts of memories of people or events that we have encountered or been a part of. These ghosts may not appear for years but then they do and it can feel like we've been transported back to the past. It is in these rabbit holes where people can exist between the here and now and the back then. And we shut out where we currently are to recreate the past. For some people the Ghosts or 'rabbit holes' seem more real than the present.
I just don’t know what to say!l listening to this made me cry I blame this song and your ❤️ felt expression and fish looking sad - I still don’t like fish singing on Marillion but this song and as a solo artist this is where he belongs super awesome

You have to come to Edinburgh Scotland UK Summer. The city where Marillion and Fish 🐟 were born.😂. You'll be made very welcome.

It's a very personal story about a married couple dealing with the early onset of dementia and the effects of aging. He wrote it from the heart.
