- I was around the corner doing another job when I drove past this property and just had to stop and knock on the door and offer to do a free makeover. This is actually another government housing property and the tenant really needed some help. The lady living here is a single mum with two young children, and she was fining it difficult to look after the yard. She was actually thrilled when I offered to do a free makeover, but also asked to remain anonymous (the same as everyone I have asked so far). Now there is somewhere for the children to play! Not only that, but she was so happy with the effort that I put in, she bought me a box of chocolates (Baileys Truffles) and a nice handwritten card. The chocolates were delicious, I highly recommend them 😉. This episode was originally going to cover the front and back, but the front took longer than expected. All up, I spent around 14 hours on the front and went to the landfill 3 times. This is part 1 of 2.

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: What happened to Nick?
A: Nick was offered a full-time position at his other job as a Political admin.
Q: What happened to Brent?
A: Brent quit at the start of August 2022.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷♂️
Q: Why are you cutting so close to your employee!
A: I'm not cutting too close to my workers, they are standing too close to where I am working. All of my workers have been told numerous times about standing too close to the tools and about the hazards involved.
Q: Why do your workers do all the lifting and carrying?
A: Basically, they are employed to carry things and I pay them well, to do the job required.
Q: You work so well together, how do you do it?
A: That's the magic of editing. My workers are basically given instructions on what to do, I just edit it all out, so the videos look seamless!
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What happened to your workers?
A: Because the work is so hard and I expect high standards, most have quit over time. The only exception so far is Nick.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem the same?
A: Quick Cuts (my original channel) has music in the background. Quick Cuts V2 is for those that like just machine noise, and it doesn't have music.

Right!? George is the first one I saw that surveys the property for trash and debris, before starting his work. I love how he has perfected the use of his equipment, not running the gas or electric tools longer than necessary and using hand tools more often, i.e., rakes and loopers. He is the only YTer in his category that prunes with some level of knowledge and makes great decisions on what to keep and what to remove.
George has given me a different set eyes for the care of my own gardens and property.

The footpaths look made for walking with plenty of things to look at while a dog sniffs their way around the daily walk; or you teach the kids plant names as you walk them to school…It is pleasure to see that as it’s becoming increasingly rare and hard to find. Your work makes a visible difference and none of us sitting in chairs in front of digital screens to earn a living will ever be able to say as much. just watching this - AMAZING - one of the VERY BEST EVER - this is what I think should be done when a house is abandoned, has elderly occupants, or has renters - take out everything - leave a lawn only - maybe big trees or a few hedges, but if noone is there - or they are unable to do the upkeep - make it easy for them to maintain - I LOVED THIS ONE - this is what I would want for my home - the least upkeep the better. I do like all of your videos - I like the way you do the jobs - you start in one place - clean it up - move on - too many jump around too much and basically really don't finish what they started. Am happy to tune in to Hobart-Tasmania-Australia and GEORGE! Keep It Up!!

Absolutely amazing transformation and job!! Looks like a totally different house. Now you can see what a nice little house it is. Now that all the flower bed the previous person did, I would lay some landscaping fabric down and fill in with river rock pebbles or white lava rock and perhaps some kind of low to no maintenance type plants. Think that would/might help keep grass & weeds down. It would take a lot of bags, time, and $$, but do a little at a time it could be done. Hope the person will be able to maintain it now that it's under control. Often wonder in watching these videos if the person is or will, keep the yard up. I'm sure some do, but if they don't have the equipment, they won't be able to keep it up, or if not able to buy any it can't be kept up. And, there may be those who can't physically keep it maintained and may not be able to pay to have it done. Thank you to you and those who do this to help those who can't. Fantastic job.

I am always amazed when you reveal beautiful hardscaping (rock borders, etc) with your transformations! I am curious, do you help your clients understand that mulching will greatly reduce their need to weed? So many people don't know about the benefits of mulch, but bare soil grows weeds. (Mother Nature abhors a vacuum.) This is now a beautiful yard, and could easily remain low maintenance with the addition of some mulch! Those rock and concrete borders are such a big help in maintaining flowerbeds!
I'm glad you're a minimalist thereby the homeowner won't find it hard to maintain the yard. 😎👍
