Because there is no ruck formed over top you may release the ball, stand up, and pick it up yourself just as if you were another player. He was on offense so there is no gate that he must come through.

Still has its cool moments, and it is a nice pathway for fast players to learn the all round skills of 15 man rugby. Yes, the peaks and troughs of 15 man rugby is great, but 7s is fun to watch as the rules are simpler and easier to grasp since the game is mostly continuous.
