I found dry flows less gets dirty faster but filters more dirt. Oiled filters flow more last longer but filter less dirt.
Which dry one you recommend? As i'm not into a stage 2+ I don't need too much air flow compared to stock.. honestly I don't know even if i need a perf air filter for stage 2 (TTs mk2 hoping for 330hp).. bad experience with my A3 MAF K&N.. avoiding oiled ones then

The oil based filter k&n over time can destroy the map sensor as the oil can run off the oiled air filter and stick onto the map sensor

The main thing with the cleaning process is two things- Follow instructions and after the rinse the filter has to dry THOUROUGHLY to prevent MAF issues. I have never had a MAF issue in part because when I bought this filter a fellow customer beat it into to me to be patient. Give it 24 hrs.
Great advice! and yes instructions say to leave filters to dry 24hrs if possible.
Hello. I also bought a BMC filter for my engine. Can I use it right away after taking it out of the box? Or will I need to oil it first?
@@Dortmund7272 You can use it right out of the box, what we were referring to is the cleaning process once it gets dirty 6 months later.

Which ones sound the best? Do different shapes filters have different sounds or are they all the same sound?
upgraded airbox filters don't really alter the sound of the intake. If you are trying to get those deep intake sounds usually you would install a cold air intake instead.

K& N will flow more air than stock but they don't stop small particles, you could gain more with no filter, but it will dust your engine out just like a K&N! it will just take a little longer with K&N.
We dont really like to recommend running with no filter but you can at the very least run a turbo guard. If the oil particles are an issue then better to run a dry filter like the AEM or AFE filters.

If we are comparing drop-in replacement filters then the BMC (part number FB928/20) for your car will have a slight edge in terms of performance. However, if peak hp is what you are after we would recommend going straight to a cold air intake.
@@Jrponline it will be drop in not air induction. Btwn the K&N and BMC drop in which would you think will give the best performance.

@@tjraider97 BMC makes your replacement air filters. However if you are looking for power the filters wont provide that. If you are trying to make power you would need to make a custom intake like the BMC OTA systems, add an exhaust and tune to the vehicle.

Can i use k&n or bmc oil to it?
Pipercross is a little different from K&N and BMC since their foam media is constructed differently. The manufacturer will advise that you use their product in particular and we suggest the same. We have used other cleaners and oils around the shop but always on cotton or synthetic gauze filters. We just dont know enough about those foam ones sorry.

@@Jrponline Can the cleaner and oil be used on bmc and k&n interchangeably? I may get a BMC filter for our new car but have some k&n oil/cleaner for a k&n filter in our old car.
@@mathsunmasked56 between BMC and K&N we've used the oil and cleaner interchangeably without issue in the shop.
Pipercross doesn't last more than 2500miles until is blocked and be like a paper one!

These air filters increase air flow but capture less dirt. It's not good for engines for long term. As seen in a test done by one you tuber

K&N makes one for your vehicle, neither of these drop in filters negatively affects a stock motor. If you aren't looking to wash/oil your filter during maintenance intervals just stick to the OEM paper filter.

@@Jrponline How would they not affect a motor? Don't the higher flowing aftermarket air filters let in more contaminants? Which are very harmful for an engine.

It really depends on the application and your budget. If you are dying for a low micron race filter go BMC, if you want great performance on a budget then take a good look at K&N.

A replacement filter wont get you much sound from your air box. You may want to look into a cold air intake system.

That’s so funny I’m here looking for that same answer, I have a Maserati and I orders both BMC just contacted me and said they’re out of stock until Feb so I’m going with K&N for now
Are the BMC air filters only made for sports cars? Because I wanna get a better air filter for my Nissan Xterra and obviously better MPG.
BMC filters makes 2 types of filters however they aren't offered for every vehicle application. The replacement filter and the race filter are both huge improvements over the OEM grade paper filters. If better MPG is what you are after then the BMC makes the replacement filter for the Xterra. This will help. However for better MPG the filter is only one part of the solution. Remember to maintain plugs, clean throttle body, MAF, PCV... That will fetch you better MPG in the end.

Yeah! I didn’t notice much of a difference on the 1st of installation, so I replace the K&N filter with an OEM one!
Can I use k&n cleaner kit on BMC air filter ?
Both K&N and BMC have very similar cleaning solutions. We have used both interchangeably in the shop without issue.
I picked up my BMC filter yesterday, can't wait to install. Bouya!!!
