  • Cam looks back at one of the oldest BlackBerries around. The 7230 encapsulates everything that's great about BlackBerry. It feels good in hand, it's light, has a fantastic keyboard and an efficient and reliable operating system.

    Love this Blackberry, was my second after the 5790. You mentioned the low powered screen, it's a shame you didn't mention the incredible battery life compared to today's smart phones. I think I would charge mine once every three to four days.

    Exactly what it is. That blackberry was my first ever blackberry smartphone I have ever used in 2004. It stayed with for more than 2 years and it also the reason why I love blackberry phone. Currently it has been replace by Torch 9800

    I was just cleaning out a closet and came across my old 7230, which led me to this video. I had added an aftermarket plastic piece over the earphone hole so I could hear phone calls better. I put it on a charger and it powered up...wild. Still love the feel of the frown shape keyboard, it was just so easy to type on. I still use a Q10 but most of my work is on an iPhone now...still not as easy to use for business emails though...I was probably 5X faster on the old BB tha on the iPad!

    PhoneDog I have a serious problem maybe you can help me “PLEASE”!!! I have a BlackBerry 7210 model 2003 cell phone which the screen is damage and I need to retrieve the data on the phone. You see I was writing a book in the notes file and I can’t see the screen to copy it on my Mac book pro. I don’t have a tool disc nor do I know where and who can help me with my dilemma. Is my date encrypted on the phone Sim desk??? Or is the data encrypted on the main frame of the BlackBerry 7210 hard drive of the cellphone. Can I get another model pop in the SIM card and retrieve my data??? I don’t know what to do and would be very grateful if you can give me absolute help... Thank You

    I've had 2 iphones a bunch of Android phones but, when I got a 8310 I loved it. I had it untill 2013 then I upgraded to the Bold 9900 and I now love that. I'll be waiting now untill the Classic comes out to upgrade again. Being in HS no one wants a BB because their "dead" but not to me I enjoy them and always will have one even if they go under (which i hope not).

    That was a great review it gave me a lot of memories. I actually had one of those phones used without any data. I believe it was a Cingular version I bought used. I had Tmobile and did not know how to get web on it because it was used in a business. I really did like texting on the handset when I had it. I ended up giving it to my Dad and he sold it overseas. My first Blackberry was actually a 8100 pearl in white. I only had it for a couple of weeks as a upgrade and sold it overseas. Back then you could upgrade a phone and not put data on it.
    My first Blackberry with data was a Curve 8900 I bought off a coworker. It was one of the best phones I have had. It was the first time I listened to Pandora on my breaks and use Facebook and multitask. It is something I take for granted now. I still love keyboards on my handsets. I have a Galaxy Relay as a backup phone just in case I get the itch for a physical keyboard.

    I agree with you Cam, whenever I email I miss my blackberry because it was such a work house. My first was a Pearl and my last was the most recent bomb and I am strongly contemplating opening a second line to get the passport when it comes out just for the emailing experience. I also miss just being able to start typing a persons name that I wanted to call instead of having to open an app first.

    My first Crackberry was an old-school 5810. I had to use a wired headset as there was no microphone/earpiece. After about two years, the scrollwheel crapped out and would glitch and/or trigger a reset. And it had to be charged through the cradle, plugging the power cable on the serial port connector. Unfortunately the screen broke, otherwise this would be a nice rarity.

    Oddly enough, the first BlackBerry device, and my favourite happens to be the worst. I owned the Storm 2, 9550 and it was awesome. Exactly as Cam put it, RIM understood what the consumers and corporate consumers wanted, and delivered. It's almost alarming how well they grasp the concept of mobile technology, and ease of use. Everything was at your finger tips. Email, Calls, BBM, SMS, and the camera wasn't half bad as well.

    The BB Pearl was my 1st BB. Hated it. It was primarily used for work purposes, responding to emails and business calls. Not very good. I quickly jumped to a Curve 8900 amd then the updated Curve with new track pad. Because this device was given to me by my employer, I always had a personal cell. Things changed when 9900 was released. My absolute favorite BB (I even tried the Q10). The 9900 had a not so great screen (washed out when viewing at an angle) amd the camera was fixed focus, but what a great device that was. While currently using an iPhone 5 for business and a Note 3 as my personal device, I'm really excited for BB and the Passport but even more interested in the Q20/Classic.
    Sometimes, you just want something that works well when texting, emailing, calling. BB has always done this right. They offer a nice product for the business user. However, they struggle at combining these features with more commercial cuatomers, the non business user.
    There's enough room for iOS, Android amd BB...

      The Pearl 8110 was my first. I loved it. I didn't want one of the bigger ones with a full keyboard. At the time, they just felt too gigantic. My first full QWERTY was the 9700.

  • @MrDPK32
    @MrDPK32 10 лет назад

    I had a BlackBerry Pearl 8110 & it was possibly the best phone I had. Ok it didn't have 3g or WiFi but it didn't need it with the way the apps where designed. The quick type keyboard was easy to use & it didn't take me long to get used to it. Actually harder to go to the full Qwerty keyboard on the Bold 9700, which I hated. The trackball was easy to use & easy to fix if there was ever a problem with it. I had my Pearl for over 2 years, longest I have kept a phone for, & I never had a problem with it. Definitely in my top 5 best phones I have owned if used.
    I really do think if BlackBerry went back to basics & reinvented these older Berrys then they would not be where they are now. Bring back the Pearl & the Berrys before it I say.
