Several years ago I was in a series of watercolor workshops - and one of our lessons was to do a complete painting with... ONE COLOR. It's a challenge, alright, but there was also something very intriguing about it when it was complete. You DO learn a lot about values and tones, as well as handling the pigment and water washes! Well done on your one-color (mostly!) card! Very cute stamps! (I always enjoy your watercoloring and your lettering videos - two of my many hobbies!)
I love your idea of coloring with just black and white and then going on top to add just a hint of color like a old photo. I would love to see you do a video on that if you had the time, please. Thank you. This card is so pretty. You wouldn't think it would be with just one color but you did a stupendous job and it's delightful.
This card turned out beautifully Kristina! I love the various shades you’ve achieved with one simple watercolor. This will be the perfect way for me to play with the shading of watercolors. Thanks so much for sharing and I’m looking forward to what you’ve got in store for us the rest of the week. ~HUGS~ #kindnessmatters
I have done a lot of one colour watercolour paintings. My choice of pigment was Sepia (Windsor Newton). With this colour, I did interpretations of old family photos from the early 1900’s. I found the Sepia colour to be extremely versatile in it’s range of dark to light hues. Another challenge is to work with just 2 colours. The combinations are endless especially when you choose a warm shade for one colour and a cool shade for the other. I found the limitations of one and two colours to be very freeing and led me to a deeper understanding of the properties of the watercolour medium. Your card was just lovely and so whimsical. The blue was a very inviting colour and matched the joy of the Marching Band 💖 Looking forward to tomorrow’s video. I am liking this series a lot, so far. 👵🏻💕🐾
Wow, I love this card Kristina....you've given me the courage to try this. You mentioned possibly doing a 'black and white' painting and I'd be so excited to see this. Thanks for sharing Kristina!
Kristina this came out really well as it moves and feels like a real scene even though it's all in blues. The figures feel right with the light and shade and it all works together. So it's just like a black and white...only i'ts blue. I laughed when you said it felt like an ocean and I started thinking maybe you were feeling like you were on a cruise again. After you mentioned that I began to see what you felt. When you put all the little figures on it again it all came into focus for me. It all worked great. and the sky was great. It did look and feel like a sky with clouds. It turned out great and it was fun watching... good challenge.........pat
So cute. At irate I wasn’t very interested in the single color! But I decided to watch because I always learn something from you. I’m so glad I did. Great video, great card. Thanks.
I love this card and the challenge! I really hope you do the black and white version and share. Thanks for explaining so well! It seems like a great way to practice shadows and light.
Wasn't sure how that was going to turn out - but WOW!!!! It turned out amazing! Who would have thought! I think you're right about maybe trying the scene like a vintage brown then just a few pops of colour.... my next challenge:) Thanks for all your videos!!
The timing of this video couldn't be better! I love how your monochromatic painting came out, even if the animals are walking on "water"! :) I'm a member of Live Love Cards (an online card-making community), and this month's challenge there is Monochrome cards. I've been trying to figure out what to do for that--I DO love lots of color, after all! So you've given me an idea with your technique here. Thank you so much for the inspiration! Have an awesome day! :)
Great challenge! And an awesome outcome. How in the world do you paint EVERYTHING without EVER going out of the lines? I feel like I'm in preschool when I have a watercolor brush in my hand (and my projects look like it!)
I would never have thought a card using just one color would be so great, I mean blue animals, but gosh it really is cute, I’ve always liked doing a card using one type of color and Just varying the shades but not with animals, totally cute. But then again, everything you do is awesome, sometime show us that you can make mistakes so that we know you’re human lol love your videos!
I loved this card and the way you encourage us to be more creative. It was hard for me to watch you put blue down for the grass. ;) You can see thinking outside the box is not my strongest suit, but I really liked the card.
Maybe you could have put some flicks under the feet to represent grass... or rocks to create the illusion that they are walking across water since everything is blue... still cute tho
I'm a beginner, maybe even pre-beginner, like not in kindergarten, but pre-K, when it comes to watercolor. I'm finding it a lot easier to use one color on an object than to try to blend colors, just go dark to light, and shade that way. If I try to bring in more colors, I tend to make more mud! So maybe one color at a time is better early on?
CORRECTION: I actually used the color C35 from the watercolor set. :)
The one color made the card very stunning! Great job Kristina!! Thanks for sharing!! God bless!!
I love this card. Stunning and sooooo different. Way to go Kristina!
Your wonderful watercoloring talent comes through with a big WHOOT, WHOOT even with one color. Great challenge Kristina. Gonna try it! Hugs.
Awesome card & challenge!! Love the blue, and that SKY...!!!! 💙💙💙
I really liked the look of the single color. Always something to learn! Thanks Kristina.
What a gorgeous card!💙
It's amazing how much you can do with only one watercolor!
That sky was PERFECTION!

Brilliant challenge Kristina. Can’t wait to give this a try. Your card is amazing. Thanks for the inspiration
so pretty! Would have never thought one color could look so good.
I didn't see ocean until you said it and then I couldn't unsea (!) it. We all know monochrome works well and this just takes it a step further.
Turned out really sweet. Love those little images. Great job. TFS
That is truly amazing Kristina! also I enjoy seeing your happy face. You remind me of my daughter a bit. Professional and Pretty and Happy.

Increíble lo chula que te ha quedado con un solo color! Me encanta!! 😍

Grisaille. Thats the technique or term used when painting in greyscale first, then lightly glazing with color.
Christina Todd Thanks! I knew there had to be a name for it. :)
I just learned that myself or I wouldn't have known either 👍🏼.
This is so cute!!!

Absolutely! Using only one color is a great way to get to know your paints and practice shading. :)
