My go-to is the rockwell 6c plate 3. Beautiful shave
Just shaved for the fist time with the Yaqi Final Cut and it did better than the Rex Ambassador-milder, less blade forward, but still fairly efficient. It blew me away, especially for $28!
I will do a comparison between the two soon.
I feel like the Slim, Fatboy, Super adjustable 84/109 are usable for almost all of the adjustment range. A lot of modern razors are just much more aggressive even on lowest gap. Setting 1 on my '64 Slim is extremely mild and probably doesn't take off much hair, but 2-9 is definitely all usable and even 9 isn't crazy aggressive(certainly get plenty of blade feel, though).
I agree
Very complete video…..thanks.
Very good review. I would like to try it one of these days, for sure. Some days I just really enjoy a good aggressive razor, so that will be on my list now. I've been using my Awesome Sauce soap, shampoo bar and aftershave and I really like them. Will never be an exact Proraso Green, but I will take it! Cheers and have a good week.
Thank you.
Nice shave and video Heiko. Sound too aggressive for me. 👍👍👍
I have the same issue as you. Sensitive skin and can only use mild razors. I LOVE the idea and look of adjustable razors but usually only use them on setting 1. The yaqi final cut in chrome works good for me on setting 1. The brass version i found a tad more aggressive. So i ground down the adjustment tray to close up the gap between the top cap and the safety bar. I want that razor but would have to do the same thing to it as the brass. I guess a cheaper and easier idea is to put some shims in between the blade and the top cap. I've tried that on some other razors and it actually works!
I had exactly the same thoughts going through my head. I was wondering how to grind down some surface to close up the blade gap and just today I was wondering if I could somehow make some shims. Wow, that is strange but good to know that it actually works. I wonder if I can buy some super thin feeler gauge stock to make shims. What are you using?
@Heiko-shaves I ended up using clear plastic from packaging. It had similar flexibility to a razor blade. I'd day the average packaging plastic is the thickness of 2 razor blades. I traced a razor blade onto it and cut it out. This way I don't have to worry about scratching the finish of some chrome razors I use it in.
Great review mate👍 The Ultima sounds a bit more aggressive than the TFC on setting 1, definitely not a daily shaver for me. Take care bro 👌🤠👌
Thank you
very nice review Heiko👍have a nice day
Thank you! You too!
Great video :). I consider to buy Yaqi Ultima razor, but how is the blade feel in all settings compare to Henson medium razor? Today is Henson razor my daily driver.
I cannot tell you how it is in all settings. First of all I can't shave in all settings. It is way too aggressive and secondly I don't own the Henson medium. Sorry, in a few days I will have a comparison out of the stainless Ultima vs the final cut brass.
Maybe that will help.
I am of the impression that the Yaqi Ultima is made of Stainless Steel. If there is any plating of any of the parts, I would be shocked.
I am surprised that the Ultima appears to be notably more aggressive/efficient, even at the lowest setting, than the previous zamac and brass Yaqi iterations. IMO, that defeats the purpose of an adjustable, at least for me. I want an adjustable to be capable of serving as a fine daily shaver, and also capable of more efficiency when I need to take down several days of growth, or a beard. This is what the vintage Gibbs Adjustable razors were renowned for, their smoothness across the normal range of adjustment.
Yes, the Homelike Taiga is available in all Stainless Steel. They also make a TI version at a much higher cost. The Taiga now comes as either a closed comb or an open comb razor. But, we can't buy them directly at the moment, because of the trade sanctions. There is currently no way to process payments between the USA and Russia. Perhaps some intermediary will emerge, such as Turkey...
There might be a DE blade out there that would work for you with this razor, but that's a whole other can of worms.
Thanks for all that information. I will look into the Taiga. There might be a way.
If you have a friend who does business in Russia, Georgia, Belarus, or any of the other countries on good terms with the Russian Federation, then they could handle the transaction on your behalf, as a personal favor, or you could buy used on one of the forums. Just keep in mind that the v.1 of the Taiga is not entirely the same as the later versions, and parts interchange is not 100%.@@Heiko-shaves
Wish I watched this video before buying this razor - I think we have similar taste in hardware. Are there any adjustable razors you’ve found to your liking?
Yes, the Yaqi Brass The final cut is great, the Rex Konsul is lovely and in the US unavailable Homelike Taiga is a dream. They are all great.
I just got mine in the mail a couple days ago and my handle looks different.
I know you've already bought two, but I'd love to see the fit/finish and performance of the brass version; especially if the Ultima differs markedly from the Final Cut.
Are you saying you are going to sponsor the channel to buy one? 😉
@@Heiko-shaves That might work!
I've noticed that both blade gap and blade exposure can increase efficiency however I feel like blade exposure contributes even more to aggressiveness/blade feel than the blade gap does.
Typically it seems that for you, razors with positive blade exposure are not ideal. For people who don't do well with positive blade exposure, the best way to get a slightly more efficient shave is to select a razor with neutral or negative blade exposure but increased blade gap.
For example, if you wanted a way more efficient razor but still limit blade feel, you could get a Tatara Masamune with the masamune top cap and the masamune nodachi baseplate. This would give you a blade gap of 0.9 mm (pretty high) but a blade exposure of -0.03 (slightly negative). This is just an example of course.
That sounds like sound advice. The only down side of the Tatara razors is the price level. There are alternatives in the more affordable segment. Thanks
@@Heiko-shaves Agreed. It was just an example. Essentially with sensitive skin you'd want to stick with neutral or negative blade exposure and even if you want more efficiency it's better to get a higher blade gap and keep the exposure neutral at least.
Razorock GameChanger models are neutral in exposure I believe with the .68P being a bit more efficient than the 34c, the .76P quite a bit more and the .84P is very efficient while remaining pretty smooth.
Hi Heiko Interesting and informative presentation - as usual. Hope your cut heals quickly.
Thank you kindly
Würde mich freuen wenn du mal ein Video mit dem R41 aufnehmen könntest
Yeah, I would have to muster a lot of courage.
Dude imagine paying 140 bucks for this thing 🤦
I know, right.
Ciao heiko
Posseggo quel rasoio (yaqi ultima) , non esiste nulla di cromato, é acciaio inox tornito e lucidato a specchio del tipo "aisi 316 l marine grade"
Un saluto dall italia
It shaved maybe too efficiently for you, experiment with different blades Heiko.
I will eventually explore different blades. Thanks
@@Heiko-shaves 👍🏻
What kind of watch do you have heiko? You should do a watch check!!
Good idea. Nothing fancy, but I love watches and even do a bit of watch repair.
