I knew Chief DiBernardo when he was a Staff Chief and I was driving a Staff Chief.. He’s the real deal.. So glad you had him on.. So sorry about his son.. Fantastic Interview!!
I was driving work on 95 early this morning listening to this. I got chills when he spoke of the 173rd in Vietnam. My late brother Joe was in the 173rd then.
Hello this is very special I just joined thank all you guys for your work Chief you are a great man you speak well and you have great stories of true heroes🙏🏼 God bless stay safe:-)🙏🏼❤😎👍
If I’m not mistaken there’s a clip of him in the vid Brother’s in Battle. Calm, cool and collected while operating at a multi alarm fire. The kind of Boss you love to work for.
Im stunned! laughter and tears, the best show yet ,what a classic, keep up the good work, i cant express the amount of memories this brings about my career with the greatest Fire Dept in the world,im so proud!!!!
How do you define courage ? COURAGE is not the absence of fear, but it is the ability to perform your job while you are consumed with FEAR !!!!! I'm going to use that with my new members starting on Monday. We all have heard great motivating words that really have an impact. These words most certainly will have an impact for me and the new and old members I'm going to share this with. Are you on the job ??? or into the job ???? Another great one. Brothers & Sisters into the job will completely feel that statement to their core. Brothers you've had some incredible guests on the show and absolutely no disrespect to them but Chief D was such a powerful guest that I can't find the words to express it. He will instill pride to all on the job and reenergize the most disgruntled members you may have. Excellent excellent job Lou, Kev, & Pete ! May brothers like this continue to inspire current and future fighters ! Stay low and let it blow! Stay safe everyone.
Agree with other comments that this was one of the best episode in this channel. Thoroughly enjoyed the Chief’s non-stop stories. Wished he considered writing a book with his memoirs. Looking forward to part 2.
Chief “Let me tell you a story”….. and he keeps knocking them out the park one after the other!💥2hr 45 and still going strong.. This man is an EXEMPLARY EXAMPLE of an OUTSTANDING HUMAN BEING.💫 Heartbreaking what happened to his son, yet wonderful Chief Joe carries on his legacy with dedicated charitable work. This is testament to his personality and heart.⭐ His descriptions and facts are second to none with formidable recollections. And I’m sure his advice is gold for all you men in the service. He is FUNNY AS too, which is a lovely touch to his humanity. Finally - Everyone needs a Smokey in their life. 🐶❤ Thankyou for a formidable show, ("comments" don't seem "enough" to review this!)🙏
One of the best podcasts yet, love the stories, so much to learn from these experienced/seasoned/salty guys. There is no substitute. Hope they visit the academy & share their experiences with the probies. Invaluable.
As sad as this podcast is due to the loss of the Chiefs son, this has to be one of the funniest and entertaining shows to date. Kudos to the Chief and his ability to bring humor and dignity to this job among the unequaled loss this job brings in the blink of an eye.
One of the greatest podcasts yet! Chief is an amazing guy. We need more shows of him. He has got so much more to say. I have so much more to absorb from him.
I retired from a smaller department as a captain but wish I could have hung out a few months with an officer of this magnitude! I could absolutely listen to his stories and experiences for hours upon hours! Another awesome show! Thanks!
Brilliant show! This is a man that’s probably forgotten more stories than most have stories. Such a humble guy for a man with such a distinguished career. Here’s to your son, chief may he rest in peace. I seriously hope you come on again.
I normally listen to the best fire service podcast in the world while working, but this one...this one had me hooked from the get go. Best guest on top of a pile of amazing guests!!
Great show as always guys. Loved hearing the Chiefs experiences throughout his tenure on the job. I don't know if I am the only one who hears this, but the Chief's voice sounds exactly like Lt. Mickey Kross of Engine 16.
Incredible comes to mind! Thanks guys for having these legendary guys on. Can you imagine 50 years from now the young fireman being able to hear these things. What you guys are doing is great now in the moment but will end up being an incredible tool in the years to come
This has been one of my favorite episodes of the show. Can't afford much but I just kicked in $25.00 to the foundation. G McNeil Firefighter/Paramedic WFD
Great job, Chief. Or should I say, “Attaboy!” Some of my fondest childhood memories are Christmas parties on Himrod Street. Best ziti I ever ate, and had no idea then that I was around so many legends. Chief Eysser, Bob Stanton, Joe Manduca, yourself, so many others who were part of my father’s life for many, many years. Brian and I were probably running around the whole time with Joe, Jr. God bless.
1:27:18 nice to see Angelo Catalano get a mention. Did his work in the FDNY and ex-chief of the North Bellmore FD on Long Island, and president of the Nassau County Fire Museum.
Yep, another fantastic show as usual! This one was exceptionally infuckincredible. This guy need to start writing a book. I'm so glad that you 3 are documenting this for future generations. Thank you for putting the effort forth and having such great guests.
Incredible show. Of all the badass shit the Chief has done in his life, I have to say the way he handled talking about his son is at the top of the list.
I worked w eamon in batt 14......we go to a fire...and 15 min. In the dispatcher asks eamon t confirm the address.......eamons response....14 to bronx....you should know the address....you sent us here😂
To add, it felt like 5 mins not 2 hours and 45, you know you’ve got it if you can hold an audience captive for that long and leave them hanging for more
buff of 22 years of IAFF L-12 Wheeling WV Fire Department and sorry Benwood Volunteers (Marshall County WV) and Moundsville Volunteers. my channel might interest you guys its PTSD treatment in the form of very well executed firefighter tribute videos I filmed and photographed myself. I use my 10 GB catalog of photos and videos that is every growing larger. IAFF 12 is the REAL DEAL. AGGRESSIVE, mostly all INTERIOR unless obviously defensive SOP in place. Our guys stay calm and "zen" the zone you guys know they have it perfected honestly. little scary but lol not too scary. just good shit. i love your podcast. i am 1 year sober and want 2 years sober before I take my WV Firefighter 1 to a volunteer. Benwood has a 75' Mack Tower, a 75' sutphen Stick quint and a ex-Chicago FD rescue squad, engine company ALF soon to be I think pierce new engine co complete with roto ray and powercall. cause powercall with q and air horn fuckin clear traffic. I have been in traffic in North Hills Pittsburgh PA. They don't mess around lol clearing intersections on Mcknight Rd. Look that road up in Pittsburgh lots of entrapments and deaths unformately. People are nuts on there texting and drunk sometimes unfortunately. Good podcast I certainly appreciate the perspective and believe me I"ve been invited to the kitchen tables of Rescue 1, Ladder 1, Engine 2, Engine 5, Engine 10, Engine 11, Engine 9 and Ladder 6 in the past. Always fun, light, restores my faith in the job even though I'm buff. I'm so professional I'd freak you out. Ask Captain Campbell on Engine 10 B WFD Ret. LOL no really don't ask. good shit keep it up.
Hands down, one of the best, if not the best episodes! I could truly listen to Chief DiBernado tell stories all day.
