  • Google Maps is getting better and better, and to be honest I am really amazed how you can view an entire city in great detail. We use Google Maps in our office to investigate exciting sites and surroundings, and I have thought that it would have been valuable to import this information into Revit.
And guess what, by using photogrammetry I made it happen:)

This is great stuff, good workflow.
I've found it is too hard triangulating surfaces that are parallel to the viewing angle, such as moving along the corridor in streetview. I'd be curious to know how to do it though if you found a way that works.

Very cool! How do you deal with licensing in this case? Does Google allow this workflow?

Please read the blogpost ( (digitalstoryofanarchitect.com/2015/09/12/combining-google-maps-photogrammetry-and-pointcloud-into-revit/). If you wan to do it automatically you can consider capture a video and extract frames (digitalstoryofanarchitect.com/2015/10/18/i-have-a-video-but-all-i-want-is-a-beautiful-3d-model/)

lol did he just create photogrammetry 3D models from photgrammetry 3D models? Not very efficient.
I tried the same with youtube videos but too bad that doesn't quite work.
