I came here looking for a comment like this one, and if I hadn't found one, I would have written one myself. I predict that this will be the start of a long and successful voice-over career for Sona Movsesian.
Listening to Robert Smigel impersonate Arnold brings me back to all those Via Satelite sketches on Late Night, it's so surreal and I'm so glad that they made it happen
13:45 I was shocked to learn that Kevin Nealon is able to drink from a straw with no complications. Not just any straw, but a metal straw. I'd been bamboozled. What an actor! You guys (and gals) (and girly men) are great! This was a lot of fun. Funny you mention it, I had Pee Wee's Big Adventure vibes and style in my mind. That came through.
No,no,no. What makes it funny is that it's live action. A cartoon automatically suspends an enormous amount of disbelief. It's way funnier to imagine this thing happening in reality because of the absurdity of it.
Can we appreciate "Rob Lowe as his character from Wayne's World". Meaning Hanz & Franz exist in the same universe as Wayne & Garth. Is Garth the long lost twin brother to Hanz & Franz? lol
These sketches were such an effective satire of the "hardbody" gym culture of the late 80s. Like many Conan fans, I was a fan of these Carvey/Nealon performances long before I knew of the writing influence. This whole episode underscores the need for more support and equity for writers!
I could hardly believe it when I got the notification that this podcast had just dropped. Seconds into when Conan announces that he is there with Nealon, Carvey and Smigel I was just flabergasted. Thank you so much Conan and co for making this super niche comedy dream possible. Thank you thank you thank you!
A teaser trailer for his HBO Max travel show and a full video upload of a podcast that too with Kevin Nealon, Dana Carvey and Smigel within 24 hours? We must have done something good this week.
Conan doing a table read of an old script with going on a hundred years total experience of some of the best sketch comedy talent in my lifetime. I'm in!
Just THIS very morning I watched Kevin's appearences on Conan's Show and thought I kinda need more of this and now my call is heard a couple hours later? Made my day!
This is great!! I hope they end up reading as much of the script as possible. You can vividly imagine the scenes as they are read. I'm glad they all decided to do this!!!
The behind the scenes, the background story, the technical setup, the raw style. It's Better than than if it was even a movie because it includes the documentary too.
So amazing and happy you are all sharing this. Brilliant idea. Will have to listen to this again with the visual now. Can't wait for the rest. Oh man, I miss all the brilliant pop-down superimposed mouth bits with Arnold and Clinton, etc. Those would floor me every single time.
If this movie (sketch) ever comes to fruition, I'd love to see Willem Dafoe cameo as a long lost relative of Hans and Franz! Looking forward to part 2!
this is the greatest comedy show never made that i've heard in a long while. i thoroughly enjoyed this and now can't wait for the second episode. Legendary Episode !
As a kid growing up in the late 80s early 90s i have to say this is such a great thing to watch. All the men at this table had a huge part of giving me the lasting joy of comedy and i think getting the movie in this form is the best way we could have had it. Thank you guys for helping i poor sad kid have some laughter in his life.
This is awesome! Truly enjoyed listening to how the Hanz n Franz characters came into existence. Classic stuff. This movie NEEDS to be made, especially since all the players are accessible: Arnold, Rob Lowe, etc. Four of my comedic heroes in this project, and so enjoy hearing them laugh and experiment with the script. Laughing my ass off, for real!
Yay! I can't wait to listen to and watch this whole Hanz and Franz series! It's a joy to watch all these funny people together. Next up: Could you please have a reading of the "Da Bears" Superfans movie that Robert Smigel and Bob Odenkirk wrote that was never made?
Had to come back to this and rewatch after the Arnold episode. From everyone who was a fan of SNL and dumb fun comedy, PLEASE make this movie happen. It would work on SO many levels, retired EXTREMELY politically incorrect bodybuilders trying to regain popularity and purpose in a new age. Make them juuuust woke enough to be likeable, preach a message about working hard to accomplish your goals. And now that Arnie himself wants to see it made. It’s a no brainer.
Kevin's tangent about the mules in Argentina is my favorite part of this whole show, it's just such a perfect way to dump on the positive discussion of Hans and Frans' influence.
So glad you found the Hans and Franz Lost Sketches. So often these rarities and alternates are so much funnier and inspired. Guess the masses weren't ready back then. Along this and why it never made it to the big screen, what about the Swinging Czech Brothers? Cruise so successfully in tight slacks. Martin and Ackroyd still exist. Enjoy Team Coco!
Ever since they mentioned this movie previously on the Podcast, I've wanted to read the script. I'm so glad they're doing this. The bits I'm hearing are hilarious.
Wow, the movie would have been a huge hit. Quite the missed opportunity! And the scene with Roger Ebert reviewing the movie as it was happening was hilarious.
I never would have imagined that Conan's show ENDING would result in the greatest period for Conan content ever. We are truly blessed.
Well said
I love this content but I miss the skits
I feel the same way! His tv shows were great but this is next level.
LITERALLY
No. The podcasts are pretty mid honestly. His late night content much funnier.
Rare Smigel appearance, one of the most underrated comedy writers alive.
I love Robert Smigel with my entire ridiculous heart.
And also one of the worst Arnolds of all time.
His triumph bit will forever be legendary. Just sad that we won’t see that type of comedy ever again due to cancel culture 😢

Gnawing on a large ham is 1000% a Conan contribution to the script.
Props to Sona and Gourley, they both did really well, and Sona with multiple characters
Props to them wearing matching sweaters
This is incredible!!! Somehow it wouldn’t surprise me if Arnold really showed up at the podcast to read his part.
Kevin immediately tries to run it off the rails with his visual bits and also his audible bits.
Please. Please. Please. Someone make this into a fanimation! We need a fan made animated short of the Hans and Franz movie!
This script is so cerebral, the jokes are so visual and quick it's hard to picture it in live-action but it would've made a brilliant animated film.
Yeah! 😂 So true
You just stole my thought😅👍
I so want to see that movie, like - *right now* !!!
Exactly! I wonder how would they pull that bicycle scene with 10 people but animated would make so much sense
