The Lallantop team is in Kerala to cover Loksabha Elections. We went to Thiruvananthpuram's Balarampur area which is famous for making Kerala saree. It is 10-15 km away from thiruvananthapuram city and almost every home in this area makes Kerala saree which is also known as Kasvu saree. He said they pay 200rs per dhoti, and during Onam season, because they work extra hours and demand is high, they are given 100rs extra per day during the season. So, for example, if they make 3 dhotis per day during Onam, they would earn 700rs that day.
Great initiative by lallantop to create awareness. Everyone should include handweaved cloth in their wardrobe. this will keep demand, tradition, job alive.
