Great work by the crew but the coxing - wow, that was something else! Nice calm voice but authoritative, clear and concise. Everything seemed to be on point from start to finish. Really enjoyed watching this!
In unimaginable pain, almost the whole body wants to just shut down and rest, you have your own mental saying don't quit, then having that cox there, no way you can disappoint your team and coxswain. Really incredible stuff. I love it.
Just commenting to say that I love this recording! I've been coxing for 6 years now and I've heard (and made) hundreds of recordings at this point, but this is one that I come back to every year.
Tom Whittaker The tier calls are basically a way to 'wind up' towards the finish line of the race. The point of tiers as opposed to a single wind up is that the crew will find it easier to move slightly faster together and then work from there. Tiers allow the crew to stay moving together whilst slowly coming up from say 37 spm (middle 1k pace) to a final 45spm by moving to 39(tier 1), 42 and then 45 (tier 3) etc. What you find is that when the cox calls to wind up in one go, boat speed is usually lost as towers move in their own way and become less efficient. Hope this helps!
You sound a lot like a calmer less angry rory copus. Ur start calls are exactly the same! Nice to be able to understand what your saying instead of just getting an angry barrage tho.
The advantages of this style is that if you need somewhere to go, you can do this with your tone. In Rory's temple recording, that was a crew who knew they were going to win, and they probably just wanted someone to drive them down the course the whole way. I doubt Rory coxes like that all the time (although could be mistaken ofc)
Was impressive to watch on the day, great recording with the overlaid coxing 👍 got the best start and made the most of it, have to say although they lost that u23 pressed hard and never lost touch. Still, solid result.

5:20 is why we row.. the passion is unbelievable

Mr umpire he said a bad word
this shit gave me chills, i feel the motivation seeping through my veins as we speak, id love to row with a coxswain as well versed as this one
JAFFA watch new trier men's varsity eight (just look up new trier rowing) and it's by a guy names John Dolan and I bet you will get chills
@@holdenc2636 nah he isnt as good of a cox as this guy here, he says to much rowers wouldnt follow everything
The pain!! But the relief and sense of pride at the end is so fulfilling.
Can you explain what the tier calls are for? Obviously some kind of going through the gears, but more specifically?

This is seriously impressive!
This coxwain comes across as vital, I didn't know they were that good...
to me as well, which really makes me wonder how olympian (fours) do it without a coxwain
I row in a four and I couldn't imagine life without a coxwain
Who is the guy at: 2:15 !?

That race needed it as well ;)
Where d'you reckon he learnt those calls?
Angry? No. Enthusiastic and passionate....? They came from the same place.

This is sick, where was 'FOOTPLATE' though?!.....
Vicky Witter It's a philosophy. A state of mind. I didn't say it, but it's been there all along.
Brilliant!
I can feel the muscle burn through the screen damn...
saw you guys on Tuesday (warmup day). I shouted #Coxed single from the stroke seat of my eight. Don't know if you heard or remember!!
