Carpuride W903. Smart screen tech for any car, but is it a permanent addition to my 1996 Jaguar XK8?

- The Capuride W903 converts with very little effort, any car or van to include a High high-definition smart screen. As long as you carry a smartphone (apple or Android) with you, then this will wirelessly and seamlessly incorporate handsfree calling. Voice-activated operations. Navigation. Dashcam recording. Music streaming and much more into your vehicle. Today I'm testing it to see if I want it as a semi permanent instilation in my 1996 Jaguar XK8 convertible. And if so, how will I mount it so as not to compromise the beautiful interior of these cars.

Morning John. I fitted a very similar device from Aliexpress to my XJ8 last winter. To mount it I fabricated a metal bracket that screws in behind the air vents, under the cowl of the dashboard top and which runs around it to sit flush with the upper surface. I've added a very strong magnet bracket to that and a steel plate to the back of the unit. The bottom edge of the display sits on the edge of the dash in a position similar to yours. I've routed the cables behind the fascia and the stereo down to the cigarette lighter power supply. The unit can be removed easily by unplugging the cables and simply lifting off the unit.
My unit is basically a different branded version of yours as it makes all the same noises and has the same functions. The only difference is that, like Gary, this is also an Apple free zone, so mine's using Android Auto functionality. The icing on the cake for me (as a typically tight northerner) is that I paid just £63 including delivery and import taxes for my 10.26" 'Smubi' branded unit. Now, that is a bargain IMHO.
I like mine for the reasons you enthuse about yours. That said, I've decided that I don't want one in my XK8 at the moment. I'm not a fan of touchscreens in cars and I don't really want to change the interior appearance of the car. Happy to use a phone mount and Google maps on the coupe for now.
You may already be aware that you can buy an fm modulator that is an easy fit behind the head unit & provides perfect sound with no interference. Got mine of ebay at cost £49 😊
Thanks Tony. Yes there are loads of FM transmission options out there. But with varying degrees of success in terms of interference. Great to hear yours has worked out well and at an affordable price.
Hi John, I opted for the CarPlayBox unit which comes with the reverse camera. It gives me Apple Car Play and it cost me £100.68. I had the dilema of where to put it but opted for the right side of the dash. Like you I struggled with it bouncing around a bit at first until I got it in a good position supported by the dash. Overall I'm very pleased with it so far.
Great intel Kevin. I will take a look at that one. Yes to be really stable I think it has to be supported rather than just suspended.

@@ToTheGarage me too I didn't go for the reverse camera and saved a bit more. I know it's sacrilege but as I related before I don't have any jags just now so it's going to get used in my W211 Mercedes and perhaps my SAAB 9-3 Convertible although the curved dash and central information panel will be a challenge in this application!
We're a no Apple zone. I will never mount anything in my convertible because 10mos of the year the top is always down. Now mounting something in place of the GPS dash panel unit location may be a winner. Watch out for that cow.

How ironic! Yesterday I installed the almost identical device in my 2002 XK8. Im a bit of a car nut and have four classic cars. I installed this device in my 2002 Thunderbird first and liked it so much I put in the Jag. My product also will take a backup camera and it has a built-in dash camera all in a nice wide and low screen gadget. I powered mine via the cigarette lighter with the included power device. It plays through my FM radio or its built-in small speakers. The whole thing cost me around $60 on Amazon. My device is slightly smaller than yours and so it fits very nicely.

Thank you for the product FYI and presentation. Considering the mounting options for my XK8 Conv. depending upon the dimensions would make an angle bracket to hold the unit in the space between the top of the console and dial gauges. I would rather glance down to see it when necessary. Could probably find hard mounting and passage either where the wood veneer meets the dash or where the console top meets the dash. The only issue would be making it removable so that one does not see the mounting when not in use.
Does the unit have a night mode to remove the blue background and color switch to a warmer palate?
Interested to see your integrated fitting proposals John, even if you decide not yo proceed for Purdey. Will you fit reversing camera externally? Looks a good enough picture from inside. But can you get a view of extremities. Thanks.

I’m surprised you didn’t use it with an OBD2 to show engine data 📈 on the go. Can you confirm if that is possible
As long as you can display it on your phone. You can Mirror it to the screen
Does this work on android phones?
Yes, 100%. I demo'd apple CarPlay and Airplay because I only have apple phones.
However it has Android Auto and Android cast (the equivalent apps for android phones👍
