My Bill Burr story:
I was living in LA close enough to be able to go to places like the Improv but not wealthy enough to be able to go into the shows, so I learned to wait in the parking lot because that’s where the comics get dropped off or go to smoke.
*So I miss him going in, but now Bill is coming out and is on his way to the Comedy Store.*
*I run up to him with optimism and my phone in photo mode and say 👤 “Mr Burr I am Skippy. I’m from Utah and I would absolutely LOVE A PHOTO please.”*
He immediately responds:
👨🏻🦰 *No. Absolutely not!*

My heart fell.
Then after what felt like forever but was probably only two seconds he says:

Man, I love Todd Glass. He can be a bit brash and he isn't really PC, but the video you can find on RUclips if him defending the waiting staff and going off on that drunk woman who was being rude to them and to him, just makes me respect him so much for that.

I grew up in a suburb just north of Boston and have been in construction my entire life. Some of the most hilarious dudes out there are just regular working class Bostonians.
Just about Every construction project is a comedy show. I hung wall coverings in Vegas for 50 years and the only thing I miss about it the the goofy shit that would happen and the things people would say every single day.😂😆😜
Even though I'm neither of these things, I can somewhat confidently speculate that construction workers and doctors/nurses are in the same weird boat, in that their senses of humor are extremely shaped by being constantly exposed to chaos and horror that they have to either ignore, calmly and promptly resolve, or worse, automatically come up with some magical synthesis between those two solutions for. Basically, in other words, have everything except the normal, expected human reaction to at all times. There's no way that doesn't sometimes make adjusting back to the world outside of work feel extremely weird.
Being an artist and/or comedian gives you like a milder version of this feeling. The difference is that the reflexive inappropriate gallows humor, while not as extreme in certain ways, can come even more automatically, because now it's not just a coping mechanism, it's the main task of what you do a certain amount of the time. I've literally had this conversation with myself: "You're going to this party to actually have a good time. If something mortifyingly awkward happens, you CAN potentially use it in the webcomic, but FOR THE LOVE OF FUCKING GOD, brain, DON'T seek that shit out. We'll be there in five minutes, start switching tasks NOW...."
Without context this video could be called 'bill changes the subject for 10mins cause he left his ADHD meds at home'

Feel like Burr is such a breathe of fresh air for Hader that’s probably used to dealing with Hollywood types so he absolutely loves his brashness. Love it.
That and Hader's a man who grew up with 3 women in the house, lived with 4 ladies until recently, now 3 'part time', so he has a healthy sensibility toward the female sex. :)
Bill lives about five miles from Hollywood.

That line really seals Bill Burr as a "Comedian's Comedian." He does Standup for the audience, but comedy for other comics and his friends. It's the same in every podcast he does he's just there to male other people laugh and not be bullshitted into the corporate talkshow or even fandom nonsense. It's THEIR time, not anyone else's!
