From what I've played of Downpour so far, It's my favorite SH since 2. The story is so interesting and you really get invested in Murpy's tale. Yeah the combat's not great but, it never was. Not even in the games before Homecoming, that's kind of the point. The fear is there too, it's a lot scarier than Homecoming and SHattered. Especially the Devil's Pit area( those of you have been there already know what I'm talking about)
Downpour was suprisingly good. It's got tons of problems don't get me wrong, but it nails the gameplay and exploration of the series. It just didn't manage to be scary or as brilliant as the earlier entries.
I think it's the only half scary one in the series. The others weren't hard enough to scare and had no jump scares or escape battles. This game nailed it. Atmosphere is what you want , scary at your age? come on, I'm guessing you're at least 14
I really liked this game, xbox one helped some framerate issues i think. Basically it really showed silent hill for what it was. Its a town that changes to show each person their fears and faults. The boogeyman wasn't always the same person when looked through someone else's eyes. To murphy is was the man who killed his son, To cunningham the boogeyman was murphy for murdering her father. Even cunningham says the town showed her things, the free roam also helped me feel more like i had the freedom to explore and enjoy this game much longer than if it was linear. The chase sequences felt odd since it was a big change but i still chocked it up to the town just being the town. Also some of the otherworld sections without the running give off the silent hill of reality bending and breaking itself. The combat was difficult but nowhere near as broken as homecoming, i found myself using the knife through the whole game cause the combat with anything else was impossible, also the "story" and twist at the end weren't exactly the best.
I got this game for 18 euros (about 20 dollars) so it did not hurt my pocket. I enjoyed it but man, the Other world? What a bummer with trying to run away from that fiery light (if there ever is such a thing as that), I was about 80% into the game and was running in that never-ending maze with the turns that kept returning me to the initial place. I am a patient person but after 5-6 times of feverishly running away from it, my PS3 controller found itself flying to the other side of the room. But other than that, the puzzles are decent and the side quests a welcome addition. I do think that they could have made more interesting enemies, though. Except for the dolls that emanated the "spirit dolls", that was new and more creepy, at least in the beginning. Regardless of how you feel about Downpour, I do not think it is fair to compare this or any S.H. installment with the first three, the first three were put out in a game world that was just getting acquainted with survival horror. There is hardly going to be anything like the first three, no matter how the Silent Hill production team works on sound, atmosphere, enemies etc because the novelty factor of playing a survival game has worn off. It is pretty much like being in love, you can never really exactly feel the same as when you first got that magical feeling. I am sorry for the analogy but it is what came to mind.
I personally like all silent hill games but I have notice that the fan community is actually scarier then the game I understand that the game not the same as silent hill 1-3 but you should had expected that much giving the fact of when they came out and everything as well as a different group makes them now
I have played all of the Silent Hills except Homecoming. I tried to play Homecoming, but was unable to adapt to the lack of inverting the axis. I really tried to play because I was really excited about a Silent Hill for the new character movement. I just wasn't able to adapt to inversion snafu. I did watch the walkthrough completely. Downpour is my favorite of all. After playing all of them, I am still scared shitless while playing. I turn the lights off : ) I even have all the soundtracks available for Silent Hill. Love the music. Downpour does not disappoint!
+Fernando Silva Those ghosts were well scary in it. The opening sequence was amazing too. The hauntings in henry's apartment were great touches as well and it had some very good music in it. I think SH4 gets a bad press because SH3 was so good and fitted the whole idea of what a SH game should be so perfectly. People expected more of the same and were unnecessarily harsh on SH4 because of that.
Graeme Pryce Yeah, I once heard that Silent Hill 4 was not even supposed to be part of the franchise, Konami just put the Silent Hill title because they thought it would sell a lot better, and it probably did.
Graeme Pryce Sure did, it felt like a Silent Hill game, probably because the devs were mostly the same. I remember going around the town in Silent Hill 2 and reading an old newspaper talking about the with Walter Sullivan, it said that he had chopped two kids to pieces right in front of their house, from there they ended up creating the Twin Victims from The Room. Amazing game, feeling like dusting off my old PS2 and playing it again.
Fernando Silva I was a bit gutted they didn't put it in the HD Collection for 360. The twin victims monster was really weird - very Silent Hill-esque. The spooky way it stood there pointing at you until you came into range of it was really good.
This game is pretty good and has that spooky silent hill feeling I play it all the time! Its fun! I love dont care what someone says about this game. its beautiful, fun, hard, and pretty damn awesome!
Silent Hill is better than Resident Evil in my opinion. It's scary, underrated, not a triple A series, great gameplay, and Gggmanlives didn't review any of the games. :)
I'm glad we are now getting silent hills a return to the original trilogy's formula and finally another great silent hill game this game was ok but it doesn't look nearly as good as silent hills and the original trilogy
+Vincent Ultramarine I played it a short time after it came out and I still have it. I tried to play it again in the middle of last winter but it was just too creepy and depressing to be playing a game with constant rain when it was freezing cold all the time and raining outside in real life! I might dig it out and have another go after watching this review though.
+Graeme Pryce yeah I can understand that but for some reason the weather in the game relaxed me but inside the buildings definitly creeped me out, great ambiance on those parts. Im going to play through it again at some point to see the different endings however it persuaded me to hunt down homecoming which also has me tingling with excitement. I picked up the hd collection too despite the reviews I seen for it, I really enjoyed the soundtrack for SH3.
Vincent Ultramarine I started Downpour and finished it again last week. I forgot just how totally freaky it gets towards the end! I actually think Homecoming is the better game to be honest though and a little more true to the series. Homecoming has some pretty hideous creatures whereas they all just tend to be mutated human shaped things in Downpour. 'The Schism' and 'The Smoker' in Homecoming were my favourites. Let me know how you get on with them! Oh and one big tip for Homecoming - SAVE YOUR AMMO! It is a great game but it has a bit of a inconsistency with the rate of supplies and the difficulty. The first time I played it I got stuck in the sewers because I'd used all my ammunition before meeting some of the more dangerous monsters ( doh! ). lol
Lol! Thanks for the heads up! I will rey when I get around to HC. Right now finishing up the evil within. It reminds me a lot of silent hill with modern RE action moments. Loving it.
@Jarrecko cool, I must say, Im a die hard fan of the series, but, just like homecoming, I was sceptical with this one... but youve given me hope, thankyou :) I enjoyed homecoming too, I thought that the combat in that was great though? what was your problem with it? (Im sorry if that sounded a bit trollish, I didnt intend it to )
I'm really enjoying Downpour so far and I'm a really hardcore Silent Hill fan. I think one of the things I enjoyed the most is that Murphy's character seems a bit more real than the others, he actually SCREAMS when he enters the Otherworld and really freaks out because of the monsters unlike for example James from Silent Hill 2 that just sees the monster and kicks the hell out of it and doesn't even care about the Otherworld.
Downpour is an utter disgrace to the series, monsters are uninspired and the soundtrack is barely noticeable. Downpour takes everything that was great about the silent hill series and throws it out the window, focusing too much on weapons, combat and jump scares instead of the overwhelming sense of terror and dread that came with the incredibly lonely and nerve wrecking otherworld levels of previous silent hill titles,.The otherworld chases in Downpour are a complete joke, they are visually too bright and look like environments pulled out of a Quake game, and are also very repetitive in design. The only redeeming quality to Downpour are side quests, but rewards become meaningless because you regularly trip over and lose all your items, an incredibly dumb design choice which regularly strips you of all your weapons, ammo, and medkits you worked hard to find and save up for when needed. You might stop advancing the story to finish up all of the side quests just to lose them all as soon as you continue on. It's a slap in the players face that no game should ever do. Say what you will, but no matter how I look at it, Homecoming was ten times a better game than this crap.
God people like you need to stay off the internet. Quit bitching cause it's what's cool. This game ain't a masterpiece, but neither is 2 and 3. Get over your lame expectations from your damn childhood
RagingRejectTV I said it back then and I say it now - its a fucking awesome game. Story, characters, symbolism, depth. Only hiccup was bad voice acting. Will always be on my top 10 favourite games of all time.
JustPaper 3 is my favorite. I liked the areas and puzzles more. And the characters. I'd rank 2 and 1 up there but hated 4, loved Homecoming even though it was super short, and downpour was pretty damn good too
SH1 had great dread and suspense, SH2 had the most beautifully dark story, SH3 had the best variety of quirks and scares, SH4 provided great mind-screw and adrenaline rush, SH0 had good backstory buildup and large environments, Homecoming was a great homage to Jacob's Ladder as well as providing one of the best bosses, Shattered Memories had one of the best endings since SH2. All Silent Hills were great in different ways, if this one shines in some way then I'm more than happy to play it.
How isn't anybody scared of this? I'm so Scared of this game. I'm 16 and a dude. I picked it up to get ready for the new Silent Hills and the evil within. This game is definitely scary. Combat is decent. And the shooting is alright but that's what makes it scary. 10/10 Game for me.
Inder Indo Almost EVERY silent hill before Downpour were much scarier. So yeah, you obviously havent played the earlier sient hills if this one freaks you out.
RagingRejectTV you're seriously telling me silent hill 1 and 3 werent scary? Get outta here. Especially SH1 back in the ps1 era was terrifying. Even Resident evil games were like a comedy show in comparison
Downpour was a perfect return to what really made Silent Hill a great series. It was up there with the masterpiece Silent Hill 2 and Downpour also went on to tie all games together very nicely. There are some flaws obviously but the mechanics are quite smooth; smoother than other SH titles. The plot was excellent but could've easily been expanded upon and why this was not done is irritating but rather common with Silent Hill as it leaves much interpretation to the player.
I will NEVER understand the hate for this game. Its the only SH Ive thought looked fun/had fun with. The soundtrack was amazing, Murphy was a great character, and oh man the art was AMAZING. It has its many flaws of course but still a great game.
+Michael Jensen It does have it's high points and it's very innovative in some ways. Those doll/ghost things were worthy of any Silent Hill game. I think the problem is that people just want every SH game to be the same as SH2 with a few elements of SH3 and some reminders of the films thrown in. Whenever the makers stray from that people get pissed!
Josh West Yeah, lets hope Downpour won't be the last. I'm sure some company somewhere must be able to come up with a brilliant looking and playing SH game now we have next gen.
+Graeme Pryce No need for the film reminders. The films were awful. But if every Silent Hill game could have the emotional story of the second AND the horror of the 3rd, SH would simply dominate the market.
JustPaper They need to go forward, not back. I don't know what I would do personally with the franchise next but I certainly hope SH Downpour wasn't the last.
Does anyone know whats the name of the song that starts in 1:57? I Have been looking at the Silent Hill Downpour soundtrack for a while now and it hold 150+ TRACKS! Please if anyone has an ID on the track from 1:57 let me know :|
i played SH1,2,3,4,shattered memories, origins and homecoming (some on ps1 and 2 some on pc). i dont have ps3 and i dont wanna buy it but i dont know wtf is with them they gave us homecoming for pc but downpour not this is like well fu** you pc players go and buy ps3 if u wanna play this because if u dont buy it u ll never play it... it just makes me sick. same as condemned i loved original i played it on pc but where is the other one ?!? why did they gave us darkness 2 if we didnt play 1st one ? and yeah i would like to say tnx for original gears of war at least we got to play the original but the other ones will never come to pc.
Wtf? Silent Hill was made for consoles anyway...it was then ported to PC. It makes you SICK? Other things should make you sick...not a simple desire to play a fucking game
Cam Par i know that...i am not against expressing it. I just feel his outrage is unfounded and misguided. You see in order to keep the conversation civilised he should have expressed his dislike accordingly. If he doesn't want to be civil then nobody else has to be civil with that person. Again I am not for suppressing dissent I am just dumbfounded someone feels sick because he/she didn't get his wish granted.
Hey I was thinking about getting this game. How would you say the game was, on a scale of 1-10? And the combat it looks kinda bad in this game compared to the older ones. Ive played Origins and the breaking weapons isn't all that bad in that game. but the combat was actually pretty good.
@Jarrecko mmmm, although I agree with what you said about the original plot doesnt require any more add-ons, what relevance did homecoming have to 1 and 3? not much really, beacause Alessa was not mentioned once in the entire game (although if your a SH fan like me witch Im gessing you are due to your knoledge of the series, you would of noticed the many refrences to her) but other than them little snipets, and the fact that its set in the same unverse, theres no real relevance between them
+Rahjees Reviews Can't argue with that. It was the first SH game where there was no music that I liked at all. It took quite a lot of it away for me really.
+Graeme Pryce this was a good game. 7.5/10 is fair. I didn't notice any bugs in the game when I played it. Homecoming may be better though. Although I agree that the music lacks now.. I want a game like silent hill 1-3 again, those were perfect.
Josh West Yeah, I think 7.5 is fair too. I think homecoming was a better game than downpour as well, not a lot better but just enough. I do like Downpour though, i've completed it 3 times now and enjoyed playing it every time.
@Smick10 pretty sure 20 somthing of this month and im guessing you should be able to digitally download once it comes out. not sure i dont play my ps3 much
I'm a Silent Hill fan, I've played them all, and this one is no different. It's certainly a new construct of what silent hill CAN be than what it USED to be. The sidequests are fun and even at times creepier than the main story. The new combat was a nice challenge. I had jumps and scares that could equal my experiences from the old Silent Hill games. The only problems I faced were the frame rate freezing up, the monsters being repetitive and human like, and more boss fights instead of just one.
I understand that Downpour has it's faults with music and rendering at times, but I'm a storyline and setting gamer. Being such, Downpour has not let me down. It's story and setting are similar yet different and new to Silent Hill. I, myself, am still trying to accept Shattered Memories and The Room, but I have only played through Downpour once and love it as much as, if not more so then, Silent Hill 3, my favorite one.
1. I would have to agree with about everything you have said. 2. I think it was somewhat better then homecoming, yknow in a right direction to getting back the roots of original silent hill, also the outcome of the game in general. 3.This game would have been better if not pushed to the side with Vatra producing it. 4.With #3 being said, if it wasn't named silent hill i think it would have made a pretty decent game. I personally agree with you
@Jarrecko Shattered Memories had a lot of great things to up the fear, that were used poorly. for instance this game has door peaking, the ability to look over your shoulder, among other things. These were all introduced in Shattered Memories. The reason why Memories did it wrong was because they delineated the real world and the dark world that there was no need to be afraid when in the real world. By using them in a more traditional Silent Hill setting, Downpour improved those mechanics.
I played SH:DP yesterday. This was my first Silent Hill game I've ever played. My review:If you don't take into account the irritating FPS and screen tearing issues, this game is incredible!Very atmospheric, scary with great puzzles and plot, and amazing music.I loved exploring the town and doing side missions, of which, "Stolen Goods" is the most memorable: the crying kid to whom I returned the toy and then started laughing happily.I was though kinda dissapointed that there wasn't 5.1 ch surround.
As someone who is a huge Silent Hill fan, I can promise you that not only is the HD collection better than Downpour, but I also can truthfully and with much backing say that Silent Hill 2 is the greatest horror game EVER created, period. Get the collection first. Downpour is worth a rent. The HD collection is worth a well dusted off shelf. Although...understand that the original series isn't about pop out of windows BOO stuff... More like, where is my life going, I feel dreadful kind of scary.
true, the void (the floating ball) wasn't exactly explained ingame, but if you think about it, you just might find out what it means. when you last see it in Overlook, you hear Sewell say "you can't run from yourself" when the void first appears. that could mean quite a few things, and my favorite way of seeing it is that Murphy is trying to run from his guilt, but can't.
@Seinh13 not really i think I mean all there was left in Downpour were better creature design, less daylight and more scares. Now compare Downpour to Homecoming. It is already an improvement and we should send Konami feedback to what is missing and should be in the next game.
@Mattimeoo just cause it has korn doesnt mean its a horrible game its just the intro music that doesnt have anything to do with the game but well the intro so dont downgrade it just because of that
@Ebvardh well, personnally, I think it was the tension that was lacking, in the first four games, I was closing my eyes and clenching mi arse terrified of what was going to be around the corner, and when that radio fuzzed and that demented demon lashed out at you, I would shit miself every time (not literally of course) in homecoming, although there were some jumpy bits, I never felt the same fear... what about you? would you agree?
5:06 I don't think the tire swing turning into a hangman was a "hiccup," I'm fairly certain it was intentional and I found it to be very creative when I came across it in game. You can even make it switch back and forth at will by having Murphey do a double-take.
I have never played a silent hill game and I'm thinking of picking this up. Would I have to play the other games to get the story or I could I just jump in?
I'm 90% of the way through this game and so far its been good. The storyline is great and reminds me more of SH2 than anything else. The environment is detailed and they mastered the fog that had been more detrimental than benneficial. The main downside is the combat. They made leaps and bounds in homecoming making combat truely scary where the rest of the series lacked. And the best part was that because combat was more in depth, the enemies got a sense of variation. 2 steps foreward, 3 back.
The action and combat may not be anything to write home about, but the story and side quests and character development is some of the most incredible the series has been blessed with since part 2. If you're looking for a beat-em-up, look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a thrilling psychological mystery engulfed in horrifying atmosphere and cinema like pacing, then this is your game. Anyone who tells you different is either not doing it right or playing for the wrong reasons. Enjoy.
This game was phenomenal. Not without it's own set of issue, combat and such, but overall, the story was unique, different from the rest, and if given the time it deserves, you end up truly connecting with the hero. I agree that it may not have all the hallmark Silent Hill trademarks, but on it's own it succeeds beautifully. In my opinion, it's the best game in the series behind part 2.
Tbh, the only Silent Hill games I have played are 2, 3 and 4, and I think that if the combat in any of them were made any better, easier, or intricate, it would SERIOUSLY affect the games abilities to scare us as the gamer. The reason Survival Horrors tend to be the scarier horror games is due to the survival aspect. That shit ain't as easy as just killing something. For example, RE3 was so effective because Nemesis was so ruthless and just didn't die, so I agree with you :)
i find it to be a somewhat of an upturn. Seems that the new developers were leaning on Akira Yamaoka with Homecoming, and the loss of all combat with Shattered Memories. Downpour seems to stand on it's own, without the lack of combat, Yamaoka, and Team Silent.
Just started playing the game 2 days ago on Normal, the combat is a lot harder than homecoming and its more based on chance that you don't get hit. It may be a lot more terrifying to previous Silent Hill gamers because they've introduced a more unique fright factor with the creatures. Just thought I'd say in addition to the review :)
agree with you 100%, game has constant fps drops, and the lighting blinds me with purple sometimes. This is way better than homecoming, but the glitches bring it down alot.
THIS LOOKS REALLY FUN! Its about freaking time somebody in Silent Hill Reacts to monster encounters and yells in horror when something unexpectedly goes wrong cuz the other characters in previous installments never mentioned or shout when they encountered a monster or missing roads during game play. It was like they were use to it even though they never experienced it. Although I like KORN, I miss Mary Elizabeth McGlynn. Too bad they couldn't just recycled the original songs. I love SH!
What about the save system. I heard some negative things about it. I played all SH games and when I explored some areas or streets I went to a save spot and saved my game. This game has an auto save, so isnt it frustrating that when u explored and got some items the game didnt save, or is there a way around that issue?
I understand the concept of consoles however as time goes on and games become more ambitious the limitations of the console become more apparent like in this game. I feel that either a transition to a more easily upgraded system like PC or stylized graphics is really the choice that game developers have to make or else we are holding the genre, especially survival horror, back.
@micpere1991 you are right..you must agree though that sh:shattered memories was also a great sh title because of the less action and more psychological elements
I'd give this game an 8-8.5/10. It had a great story, it always kept me thinking what Murphy has done, and my theories kept on changing the more I learned about it; which is what I like in a game; it makes you keep guessing. Enemies weren't too creative, I admit. Game has glitches, but most of them I never saw (Patch fixed most of them). This game shows that SH can still go back to its roots, and still try new things. IMO, Vatra might not have made it perfect, but they took a step forward.
Um except for Scarlet, that was possibly one of the best Silent Hill bosses ever conceived. The buildup, the music, the atmosphere, the design and even the Hell Descent level before the fight felt right at home with traditional Silent Hill lore. If there's one thing that Homecoming did right, it's definitely the Scarlet boss fight.
There are two, there is also Shattered Memories which is even less action, I liked the atmosphere in both Downpour and SM. I do not claim to know a lot of games in general but I think they did a good job telling a story. and in downpour the turn back time stuff was epic.
This is a good game, don't let haters put you off. I got it for 15$ online, I wouldn't have paid 50$ for it though. The old ones are hard to find nowadays, unless you get the HD versions which are meant to be riddled with bugs unfortunately. If you can find Downpour cheap then pick it up, but don't pay over 30$. Try videogamesplus for a good deal.
@MasterCheif248 I can't really tell you if it lives up to 2 or 3 but I've played the very first classic one for a year now and I beat Homecoming for maybe 2 years. When I play downpour it feels like a combination of both of those two games. The combat does feel clunky but its a good kind of clunky. Unlike Homecoming combat feels desperate, you start off like a boss with an axe and leave with broken stick on the ground and a rock in your hand. This makes you feel way more vulnerable. I like it...
yeah i know what you mean. I havent got a collector edition of any game at all it dosent seem fair, the price for what they give you really. I understand that people who love a franchice may want to buy it, i mean its their cash. but what really pisses me off like i said is that games that are buggy or unfinished or rehashed get those whooping prices and people still buy them. What konami is doing here is the right thing to do
@criss0906 I STRONGLY disagree, those are just classic monsters, what makes Silent Hill games great are their stories, dark and lonely atmospheres, and mysteries
I always felt the combat was more like in Origins, since Origins also had breakable weaponry. It doesn't really resemble Homecoming. I also don't understand the comment about screen tearing and frame hiccups, "Even when installed to the hard drive" as if installing the game makes it run smoother. Usually running it off the disk is smoother.
They gave it a score of 7.5, and said it was 'good'. I really think the combat did hurt the game, but I have felt that about many of the games. If they want you to fight, they should make the experience something barable. I constantly got annoyed in battles with fighting more than one monster in this game. Other than that, and the framerate problems, this game is golden. Great Story, awesome environments, and well done on the horror end. They rated the game fairly with good.
This game is legitimately one of the best in the franchise. It's up there with SH2, no joke. Seriously, give it a chance. I have not been able to put it down since I got it.
@FinfTon That's one for Homecoming and one for Downpour... I could get Homecoming used for 22$ or Downpour new for 60$. Sterling liked it but he also hated Homecoming. I guess I am getting the HD Collection first (never played SH2+3), then Homecoming, then Downpour when it's cheaper. I don't want to waste 60$ on it if it turns out shit.
you do realize that Akira has stated he will not go back to working on silent hill products, and Team Silent was disbanded, and many of the members left along with the disbandment. That is the whole reason that the series was outsourced to Vatra to begin with, the original Team silent was not happy with executives wanting to take creative control, so they left.
I didn't think the story was 'awful' but it I thought it was poorly executed. I didn't really understand what was going on until about three quarters through the game, and I really like the blue color scheme they went with. But yes, give us a game like Silent Hill 3, with these controls and a fantastic story like 2 and 1 had, and I will be more than happy with the America devs. They're on the right track though, that's for sure.
+RagingRejectTV If you're low on health, and you know you haven't saved for ages, then things become real scary real fast..
JustPaper I always save as much as possible.
im glad that gamespot gave this (actually quite good) silent hill game more appreciation than ign
this game is shit
Bivouac no it's not.. this game is far from perfect.. but it's good
jack bassindale I enjoyed this game!
@@bivouac1858 that is very true
Thank you. Finally someone who gets it
did u ever play the first one?
I personally like all silent hill games but I have notice that the fan community is actually scarier then the game I understand that the game not the same as silent hill 1-3 but you should had expected that much giving the fact of when they came out and everything as well as a different group makes them now

Downpour is my favorite of all. After playing all of them, I am still scared shitless while playing. I turn the lights off : ) I even have all the soundtracks available for Silent Hill. Love the music. Downpour does not disappoint!
Silent Hill died a long time ago, the last one that felt like a Silent Hill game was The Room, probably one of the most disturbing games out there.
Fernando Silva It still fitted reasonably well though and a lot of people seem to like it.
Yeah the fog thing is a clever way to hide draw distance... It's a pretty smart way I have to say...
I want a remastered version of this game
I really wanna know what the song at 1:57 is. I haven't been able to find it anywhere
Any luck finding it?
Did you find it?
This game is pretty good and has that spooky silent hill feeling I play it all the time! Its fun! I love dont care what someone says about this game. its beautiful, fun, hard, and pretty damn awesome!
Aside from the shitty theme song, and terrible performance issues. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the story and overall liked the game. Fuck me amirite!?
Silent Hill is better than Resident Evil in my opinion. It's scary, underrated, not a triple A series, great gameplay, and Gggmanlives didn't review any of the games. :)
Excuse you?
Underrated?
It's a well known series.
@Jarrecko What would you say has been lacking from the series once they went past 4?
Do you think is something in specific?
I played this on two tabs of quality acid.. 10/10 would recommend!
@Mike Honcho well I tried to replay downpour last year and it was not a ten 🤣🤣
I try to play games on acid but it’s hard 🤣 I just be wanting to watch movies
Spot on review. IGN just went into Straight Up Tard Mode and rated this down for not being an FPS.
I'm glad we are now getting silent hills a return to the original trilogy's formula and finally another great silent hill game this game was ok but it doesn't look nearly as good as silent hills and the original trilogy
This comment didn't age well
PLEASE can someone tell me what song is playing at 01:58?
I must admit this way a good if not fair review. I just picked this game up today and quite excited to see what kinda journey it puts me into :)
Loving it.
Vincent Ultramarine I've not played that one but I have seen some of it in RUclips vids and it looks like I would like it!
@jayden777 Korn only plays in opening cinematic before the menu screen. This can be skipped by a simple press of a button.
I just wish the game ran a little smoother. It can get hard on the eyes.
@Jarrecko cool, I must say, Im a die hard fan of the series, but, just like homecoming, I was sceptical with this one... but youve given me hope, thankyou :) I enjoyed homecoming too, I thought that the combat in that was great though? what was your problem with it? (Im sorry if that sounded a bit trollish, I didnt intend it to )
A fair review of Downpour? This can't be real.
I'm really enjoying Downpour so far and I'm a really hardcore Silent Hill fan. I think one of the things I enjoyed the most is that Murphy's character seems a bit more real than the others, he actually SCREAMS when he enters the Otherworld and really freaks out because of the monsters unlike for example James from Silent Hill 2 that just sees the monster and kicks the hell out of it and doesn't even care about the Otherworld.
the enemies in this game are just horrible. jesus
zero imagination in them, the game was so blasse
What i like about downpours is the devs *tried* to be original. Sure the monsters dont look good but its not pyramid head or nurses for the 50th time.
I can clearly hear the intro song is by Korn but what's the song called?
+RagingRejectTV 2 and 3 werent masterpieces? Haha, good one. 2 is probably the best storyline told in gaming, ever.
JustPaper So? Story alone doesn't make it even great. Still 2 is damn good, but get over yourself. Blinded by nostalgia
Inder Indo grow a pair
I give it 10/10
Inder Indo Almost EVERY silent hill before Downpour were much scarier. So yeah, you obviously havent played the earlier sient hills if this one freaks you out.
+heyjeySigma no they weren't scary. Were too easy and had nothing but atmosphere. Atmosphere can only go so far. They were great, but scary? No lol
+Graeme Pryce very true, that's how I feel. I'm still happy when they put out a silent hill game though.
Tomi Relax there boss he's just speaking his opinion.
Tomi I guess he takes his gaming seriously
Cam Par yeah...
Hey I was thinking about getting this game. How would you say the game was, on a scale of 1-10? And the combat it looks kinda bad in this game compared to the older ones. Ive played Origins and the breaking weapons isn't all that bad in that game. but the combat was actually pretty good.
You know what's worse? Five Night at Freddy's.
That game wasn’t bad
so should I get the PS3 version or the 360 version? I can't tell if the technical issues mentioned in the review were PS3 specific or not.
Nobody likes the Down-coming
That’s not entirely true
@Jarrecko mmmm, although I agree with what you said about the original plot doesnt require any more add-ons, what relevance did homecoming have to 1 and 3? not much really, beacause Alessa was not mentioned once in the entire game (although if your a SH fan like me witch Im gessing you are due to your knoledge of the series, you would of noticed the many refrences to her) but other than them little snipets, and the fact that its set in the same unverse, theres no real relevance between them
7.5? dats 7 points too high
I'm happy to see a positive review of this game. It has its flaws but it has numerous redeeming factors.
That score is a complete joke.
***** Bugs, sluggish combat, all choices ending the same way, uninteresting storyline, terrible level design. This game is a joke.
+Graeme Pryce I'm stuck every 20 minutes on downpour lol
Hmmm... I'm thinking about buying this one or the collection.
What do you guys think?
When does the hd collection come out and can you buy it from ps store?
I'm pretty much new to silent hill. Which one should i buy, the hd collection or downpour?
true, the void (the floating ball) wasn't exactly explained ingame, but if you think about it, you just might find out what it means. when you last see it in Overlook, you hear Sewell say "you can't run from yourself" when the void first appears. that could mean quite a few things, and my favorite way of seeing it is that Murphy is trying to run from his guilt, but can't.
@lionid exactly..people seem to think official reviews are opinion based when it's not. It's supposed to be non biased, and objective.
Hey :) can u guys tell what soundtrack play at 1:57 because I want to use it for my school project. Thanks
so should i get this game on gamefly or sh hd collection on gamefly?
@AmphibiousKitty what's the song called?
5:06
I don't think the tire swing turning into a hangman was a "hiccup," I'm fairly certain it was intentional and I found it to be very creative when I came across it in game.
In my opinion, it's the best game in the series behind part 2.
man im trying to find out wich is better im not a big fighting fan but im trying to decide should i keep injustic or go get silent hill downpour
Ive never played silent hill before, would this be a good game to start with?
It is a slow paced game for the most part. If you are not sure if it's worth a purchase, watch Lotus Prince's LP.
agree with you 100%, game has constant fps drops, and the lighting blinds me with purple sometimes.
Well, I've got the HD and plan to stick for it for a while. But Downpour might be playable in some future...
@Jarrecko Which other games in the series did you like?
I like it...
ya that's so true. problem is its been about 1 year and the patch I downloaded didn't fix much at all. /cry
yeah i know what you mean.
Thanks for your reply, mate. I can survive the framerate issues just fine, hehe. I'm really considering getting this game after all, I think.
It's the subtle horror that creeps on to the player that permeated in the older games which felt distinctive versus the obvious in your face variety.
Totally. As a hard-core Silent Hill fan, I give Downpour a 8 out of 10
is this game allready have been release
Can someone please tell me the rock song you hear in the background behind the guys voice at 3:30 onwards....keep hearing it everywhere! :P
what's the song playing at the start?
@Mattimeoo are you insulting korn? or are you insulting there presence in the game? Im dont really understand what you mean...
Doesn't mean I wasn't referring to Origins Homecoming or Shattered Memories. I guess I didn't make that point out clearly.
you do realize that Akira has stated he will not go back to working on silent hill products, and Team Silent was disbanded, and many of the members left along with the disbandment.
Much better review than IGN. Fair and unbiased like all reviews should be
