THANK U GUYS AN I USE TO FISH THE ACUSNET RIVER IN NEW BED FORD MASS SOME'OF THE BLUE WERE LIKE 26 TO 28 INCHS SOME WERE AROUND THERE MONSTERS I THING LIKE 15 INCH 50 LB LEADERS THE BLUES TWISTED AN GRINDID THEM LIKE NOTHING FUN FUN🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
We were using 50-pound leader. You could use wire for the blues, but with a lure like a metal or a pencil popper, having a fish bite you off isn't as likely as it would be with bait. That's how the plug came rigged, with the hook pointing down, which is how I would rig it. Seems like you get a better hook-up ratio on topwater with that hook point below the plug, where it also acts like a bit of a keel. Here's a link to all the tackle we used in the episode: www.onthewater.com/gear-and-tackle-surf-fishing-for-bluefish-on-cape-cod-s18-e6 Thanks for watching! - Jimmy Fee
Im inland Mass, but going out to Yarmouth next week to Smuggler's Beach/Bass River inlet/outlet.....should be good fishing there? Stripers and/or blues? Pinks?
A type of medical bandage - that specific one was Andover CoFlex. It's really comfortable, holds up well in the water, and flexes better than Hockey Tape, which is what I used to use.
Hi Jabreil, This was a CTS Rods Blank I built more than 10 years ago. I believe they said it was a salmon/steelhead model - it was before they had many rods available in the US. It's a great beach rod, but doesn't have a ton of backbone for fishing around rocks or structure. I built it with the "New Guide Concept" which uses more and smaller guides than the traditional "cone of flight" style. I also built it before the K-Frame guides became as popular as they are today. The grip is a cord grip. This was the first rod I've tried it on, and I've since modified a few of my surf rods to have it. Thanks for watching, and if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to help. Jimmy
The spring run of bluefish from #3-15 in the back bays and tidal rivers of New Jersey was nothing short of world class from 2015-2019. The run would start the last week of April and last until mid June. Topwater, swim baits, metal, jerk baits all would produce.. However the spring of 2020 did not live up to the previous springs. Coincidentally the back bays on the south shore of Long Island experienced a great run of bluefish in 2020 while the previous springs were lackluster there. Hoping they return to NJ this spring.
Hey Ryan, Here's all the gear we were using in the post, with links to the tackle. www.onthewater.com/gear-and-tackle-surf-fishing-for-bluefish-on-cape-cod-s18-e6 As Rob said, we were using a CTS Vapor Trail and Century Stealth. Thanks for watching!

CTS Vapor Trail, the lightest model, 10' 1-3 oz. I built it about 10 years ago. It's a great rod for sand beaches, but doesn't have the guts to fish for larger fish around rocks when you really need to put the brakes on them. here's a link to all the tackle we used in the episode: www.onthewater.com/gear-and-tackle-surf-fishing-for-bluefish-on-cape-cod-s18-e6 Thanks for watching! - Jimmy
What Rob said. Both are a bit slower action, but have a great feel. Perfect rods for sand beaches, but those particular models lack the guts to steer big fish around rocks or in heavy current.
I'm in North Jersey, and a few years ago Bluefish was all we seen... It slowed down a lot... I miss the Bluefish, they put up a great fight
great show! Makes me miss summer evenings
Kevin’s rod is sick
We gonna meet blue fish I think first week to may in nj now good luck u guys great job 👍🎣
last spring around June of 2020 in barrington RI there was a good blue fish run.
Awesome video as always guys! Hoping the Bluefish bite is good this spring here in Jersey!
Same here!
So it’s fine to just grab a blue at the back of the “neck” ? I’m always confused on where to grab them.
I miss fishing for blues new bedford I use to catch big boys thay use to bend an twist my 60lb steal leader's like noting the good old days

Damn Those rods are so long. It's more fun with an 8 to 9 MH ML
Nice bluefish action - any specifics for leader size? In addition, saw the hooks pointing in versus out any reason ?
I was wondering the same on the hooks

If you're gonna wait for a bluefish to tire out, you're gonna wait a long time. They don't tire out.
What is the finger guard Jimmy is using? Bactine and band aides, check
Co-Flex or Co-Ban, a flexible, non-adhesive bandage. Makes a great casting guard.
pablo is the goat respect him always
Ha! Jimmy's reaction at 3:54... "Well there goes our drone Kev"
haha! After a couple close close calls, that drone finally met its end in the woods of Western Massachusetts this winter.
Would the tsunami airwave elite 8’8” rated 1/2-2oz be to light? I use it for Spanish mackerel in the surf.
What are you using to protect your finger when casting? Thanks very much for the vid! Hoping we see those blues out in LI soon!
Nothing better than couple wraps of athletic tape. Waterproof durable cheap.

@@OnTheWaterMedia Thanks!

These bluefish were caught in early summer.
Nice video guys very nice, but when it comes to blue 🐟 lures no one beats krocodile spoon. Two more week and they will be here in Long Island.
Where can we get that lure the one that's similar to the stubby?

What rod is Jimmy fishing?
Its a CTS - probably a Vaportrail. Made in New Zealand. Nice blank but not cheap.

Terrible last few years in Raritan Bay.
You left so much meat on those fish 🐠
Robert’s Ranger anyone?
yo pablo you spanish
Can you please give me the address to this finish place
I know where lol
Let me guess they're coming back because of the fishing licenses !! help abolish the recreational fishing licenses/ permission slips from Master. now.
All species of fish should be protected .
Your fishing location?
Never gonna get an answer to that question. The question that should never be asked!
