Diverging from the original story isn't always a bad thing! TV adaptations can never be fully accurate, and while many fans had their reservations with Season 1, by the second one most of us agreed that although it is becoming a different story, it's a good one! In fact, Lanfear is the change that viewers liked perhaps the most out of all of them, because she's so much more interesting in the show, they gave her much more personality than she has in the books. There were several more instances where the TV show took something from the book and changed it for the better (like making Barthanes play the role of the adoring nephew and son while being a Darkfriend in secret, that added such a good level of betrayal, or showing Egwene's torture as a damane in more detail), while other parts, like Elyas or Lan and Moiraine's special bond were less well executed - you win some, you lose some. Either way, it's okay if it's just not for you, but I recommend you give it another try! The second season saw a huge step-up in quality, and just remember, adaptations are *always* alternate versions of written stories, they're not meant to be exact replicas :)
