@lazer tag she is far from close. that said, if you want to get better in English or any foreign language, you need to listen to it a lot and you need to bring up the courage to speak it out loud in front of other people not worrying about doing it wrong. I think Ryujin has that fire in her and she is going in the right direction.
She's probably already at an Intermediate/Upper Intermediate level. Which is really good; better than pretty much any idol that hasn't had significant time living in an Englih-speaking country and having been taught English for an English-native environment. But she still has a long way to go before she could be considered fluent. What is most impressive about her English is that the mistakes she makes are far less typical of other speakers around her level - and she has tne confidence to go ahead and not worry about making them or doubting herself when having made one. As someone who teaches English as a foreign language, she's the kind of student I'd love to have.
@lazer tag There is a difference between what can be termed as 'conversationally fluent' and actually fluent. If you want to learn about the details of what each level means, look up something called the CEFR - it's a reference scoring system that is a good (but not flawless) way of asssesing and understanding a student's abilities in English. I would say Ryujin is a B1/2 level, probably more B2 by now. There is a fair gulf between the top students at each level and the bottom, though.
With upset/mad, there is a bit of a clear translation thing there since the words are not so synonymous in Korean. However rather than necessarily just using simple words, some learners will pick up on certian words or phrases that they enjoy and remember easily, some of which may be fairly unusual or complex to natives, and use them - the key to look out for is the depth and breadth of her vocabulary (how many different words she uses, and how many different ways she can express the same sentiment with different words each time) - rather than the individual words themselves, along with pronunciation. It's certainly true that she's had a very good foundation of English teaching as a kid and I'd be really interested to learn in what context she learned - my guess would be as a child/young teen she went to a Hagwon to focus on English learning, while the others did not, or she had much better English teachers at elementary school level. I think they've been tutored in English within the company for around a year or so now, and she certainly would have tested at a higher proficiency level than the other 3 and so would have received more advanced tuition as a result over the past months. But yeah, check out what is meant by B1/B2 English proficiency according to CEFR if you're interested in learning more! And sorry for the wall of text; this is a big part of what I do for a living, lol.
@lazer tag sure, the option is there for anyone who does! But I expect she's totally comfortable to do stuff like that without issue, and more importantly, understand what is said back to her. Interacting with service staff etc is one of the main things taught to separate pre-intermediate from intermediate level, but is also one of the easiest things to practice via media etc which can be a big help (though not everyone can improve as well from watching English language TV/film as some seem able to... I wish my Korean would develop more naturally from consuming media, alas, it does not...)
lazer tag she could become actually fluent. but right now she’s only heading towards the conversationally fluent field because she has no fluent/native speaker around her. right now, it’s in her and Lia’s best interest to try and converse with each other in English for faster improvement on Ryujin’s part, and re-grasping the language on Lia’s part.

Your opinion is respected but these positions are well thought out before debut. I personally think Ryujin is the prettiest but beauty standards are different in everyone’s eyes. Lia is gorgeous as well as the other 4. We should just call them a visual group
Yeah I know that Yuna is the official visual. They all are actually beautiful in different ways.
But my type is kind of classy. I don’t know if this is the right parabole but just to say, if Yuna is like an orange, Lia is like a grape. And that part makes me feel like she’s a paragon of beauty.

@lazer tag No, she has a professional English teacher. They all do.
@lazer tag Because I know these things; it's my own line of work. They didn't start at the same levels - I imagine Ryujin had much more/better English teaching as a child so started at a better level than the others; I'd suspect she was tested and graded as pre-intermediate when their tuition started a year or so ago. The standard of English teaching in Korea varies massively, and the best quality English teaching - by natives that are properly qualified - comes from private academies (Hagwons) that not every child will go to growing up. Different parents likely focused on different priorities for their kids, too - obviously Yeji had a serious illness as a child which probably meant English lessons weren't at the top of the priorities list for her family, for example. Chaeryong's family might have chosen to send her to dance lessons, like a ballet club for example, instead of English.

Lia's english vocabs are very deep you could tell she's really fluent in English. Ryujin, she understands and she could speak what's on her mind but she's not that fluent. But it's great for a member like her who learned english in korea.

u can see that lia had a hard time with dancing back in her trainee days by how she speaks about it. it makes me happy that her girls and other trainees helped her to calm down and make her feel better after crying. i don’t doubt that she has improved so much since then,,,, it’s sad that she still gets backlash for her dancing when she’s only been debuted for a little over a year. she deserves more recognition tbh :)
