Home of Jake Owen, I mean Josh Owens lol. Got married there at the Disney resort and had the groom's dinner at Mulligan's. Been to Ocean Grille many times. Place called Mr. Manatee's on the ICW is pretty good. You're correct about the depth in the area at low tide. Very nice town for Florida
Neat to see the 'home stomping grounds'. Hope you got to see manatees going through Haulover between the Mosquito and Indian River Lagoons. Sorry Cocoa Village still isn't 'dink' accessible. The City Council has approved the money for the project, but construction won't start until springish 2020. The new facilities look really nice and there will be a fairly good side dock w/a pump out and also space for dinks. One thing to toss out for those who saw the track into New Smyrna Marina ... if you're not going to the marina, just transiting through, take Sheephead cut to the south of Chicken Island - better water down there.
Thanks for watching. It will be great when they complete the docks. We always end up leaving our dinghy in a sketchy place. We love the Cocoa are, and Smyrna as well.
Wawa in Cocoa, huh? Taste o' Home! I seriously miss Wawa hoagies. Must be nice to get them in Florida. The Southernmost I have seem them was in Northern Maryland, but that was quite a few years ago. That and Tastykake Butterscotch Krimpets!
@@paul4365 I moved to the West Coast in 2005, and there is so much I miss from the East Coast, especially the Philadelphia area, food wise. But, I prefer it here in Washington.

One of these days your going to be able to write a guide for the good restaurants and bars along the ICW. Looks like your eating well and having a great time. Happy sailing.
Ed, does Lyn know how to safely operate and dock the boat? If not, why not? What happens if you became disabled and she had to take over? I had friends who were almost killed because the wife did not even know how to shut the engines down!
I agree. She has basic knowledge but has never docked the boat herself. She could get us to port but it would be one hell of a wreck when we got there! We decided she must learn this year.
That’s a great plan Ed. For Lyn’s sake too it will help her to relax some in that as she gains further knowledge, it will help her see things and strategies of the boat operation from a different perspective. Happy Tax Season
Question if I may. At about 7:35 into the video you showed an ICW or other guide that listed the bridges you were going under. Can you tell me what guide that is? Thx
We have the Waterway Guides for areas that we travel in. They have a section that lists all bridges on the ICW, their heights and openings. It is mostly accurate. Lyn puts notes on it so we remember when we pass again.
@@tryingnottosink9107 Great resource for the AICW ... one thing I'd toss in is to check the Local Notice to Mariners each night for the bridges you'll encounter on your next day. While the Waterway Guide is great (at the time of publishing) - temporary deviations could throw off you're timing. The LNM will give deviations due to repair/construction and also closures for things like running events.
@@tryingnottosink9107 in the video your wife was recording and I just noticed that when you unlocked your phone it was the same swipe I use.. so where are you and the wife off to next.
Not knowing the year of your boat I do not know if you have all mechanical injectors or later Electronic injectors (DDEC). The high output mechanical engines put out about 750 hp and the electronic injectors put out about 35hp more. The change to electronic took place around 1990. I observed that you run mostly at displacement speed and occasionally run it up to about 1700 rpm. The max when new was 24-2500 rpm and people with deep pockets would run them at 80% power which was 2-300 rpm below max. This was considered normal and not destructive but they work hard and wear out quicker then the same engine rated for commercial duty at a lower hp. My point is that the big injectors aren't as efficient at lower speeds where you cruise. And they like to be run hard after long slow running to blow out the excess carbon. Race horses don't make good plow horses in their retirement years. If you ever have to get into the engines and do some injector work you might want to look at installing smaller injectors and cutting out some potential power you don't use anyway. They will run cleaner and use less fuel even at your lower cruising speeds. This will probably only be cost effective if you have to do some repair work that involves fuel injection work. This info refers to mechanical injection . Not sure how electronic systems can be detuned or if it is necessary. Find a DD 2 cycle expert and ask. Hatteras should be a good source of what to do and who to contact. Hatteras keeps very detailed information on all their boats. Contact them with hull number in hand
Thanks for all the info. My engines output 630hp. I am not sure what kind of injectors. I do have a spare set on board, I'll have to take a look. I do try to remember to blow out the engines the last 15 minutes of every trip. The engines are really overkill for what I do. I would rather have the 8v71s. Anything I can do to cut down on fuel costs, and give further range, would be helpful. These engines seem very solid so I doubt I will be replacing them any time soon. Hopefully by then, electric engine technology will be available.

They seem to be popping up everywhere in Florida. Fortunately!
They started putting them in here on the Space Coast around 2017 and they're spreading like wildfire.

We will definitely be passing by some time this summer!
I've said this before on here, but I'll say it again, gotta love the sound of those Detroit engines.
Don't know if you were able to get to Flagler Ave in New Smyrna. Great shops, restaurants & pubs to see.
Not this time, but we have been there before. I believe that is where the "Corkscrew" is.
Looked like a very nice cruise up the ICW! Only one issue..... no ‘Roger, Out’??? :(
Roger that!

Maybe a second video channel! 😁
You had me scared gone under the bridge looked a little close. Lol
Lyn gets nervous all the time when I do that. The 22" is for "low steel" The actual height is about 26'. We only need 24'.
