I'm sure you probably had a reason, but the bottom half of the closure clasp is installed upside down..... the ring is meant to go over the post then the pin is meant to lock it all in place.
Good eye! The doubled up leather is too thick to accommodate the correct orientation. I actually had to bend the little keeper up a bit to make it work at all. The hole in the post wouldn't clear the ring lol. All in all, not the right sized clasp, but I was down to the wire in filming and it was all I had 😅
I'd love to see something similarly done for messenger bag for a Switch and laptop! Nice and slim and pockets for the cords necessary as well as extra games you might have for the Switch. That'd be so dope!
@Skilltree. When you use dye, I've found(and Chuck Dorsett@Weaver Leather explained) that he likes the Fiebings Pro Dye because it doesn't get darker with each coat.
Cool project. Bright colors seem to be hard to apply evenly even if you don't run out partway through. I tend to antique the crap out of all my projects, it covers a multitude of sins.
You can use rubbing alcohol to lighten Fiebings dye, I've used it very carefully on pieces where there's darker sections for whatever reason. You'll wanna use a very small amount on a cotton ball/soft applicator of choice, since it can dry out the leather
The bag is beautiful. But the loop on the clasp should go over the peg to make a stronger attachment you would have needed to swap the parts for that to work but still.
1) The handle, when I've had to cut semi circlular cut outs a large hole punch works best for me Ive found 2) For dyeing leather - Airbrush really cuts down on the streaky stuff sometimes that happens
DANG I WANT TO BUILD THIS. If I'm going to be carrying all my DND shit places I want to do it in style. I love the glamour shots at the end. Ahh This is such an amazing build. So simple and elegant and it will probably outlast us all. I hope you make some more bags. This is just so good
@@SkillTree Easy to keep checkin in when the builds are dope. Might see if i can buy some kangaroo leather to try this. Might be more baggy because of the elasticity of kangaroo leather. idk. my old messenfer bag needs replacing
Seriously nice job on the bag. Just a comment about the barge glue. If you have any kind of finished surface for barge, it will not stick properly. I always need to rough up my edges so it sticks. However, you still need to either stitch it in place or tack it like you did here. Hopefully this helps some leatherworkers out there. :D
Add to your list to blacksmith a Thor Hammer, Draw Knife...in a miniature design? And maybe a lap vice...all your versions and your take...I’m new here and have been perpetually watching all your awesome videos. Merry Christmas and God bless!
It's interesting that you made these now. I've been working on a very similar design for pouches/purses. Just no handles on mine and a good bit smaller. Also you can use upholstery tacks for a different look. :) Nice work as usual!!
Oh, and on the clasp if everything is close enough on level, the loop can go over the the part that sicks out. It makes it more secure. This is one sexeh bag though! Love it!
You should invest into a laser engraver it is SO COOL, it burns an image from google into wood and I spent hours on this machine and became the teachers assistant on the laser engraver and 3d printer lol
Listen. It is so much fun watching how excited you get when things turn out well. Like, making things that you've never made but think are awesome, and then having them like almost come out better than you imagined? There are few experiences like that in life, and dude it is so much fun getting to watch that happen with you. :P Your enthusiasm is contagious, and if I didn't already make things for a living, your channel would be high on the list of reasons to start. So thanks! And thanks for helping us level up too! ;) And Also the bag looks 100% badass. Or badspider. Bagspider? I don't know.
Haha, I too tend to nerd out about the things that I make. And like you, I kind of make all sorts of stuff! It's hard not to scratch that creative itch, and lately it's been wood working things like carved signs and plates and puzzles and whatnot, but I started out making cloaks, and then hats, and then everything just snowballed. Haha. And by "a living" I mean that occasionally a family member buys a set of my dice or a treasure chest. :P
Wow this is awesome. Wonder if I can pull off making something like this for a trip I have at the end of October. However I may go with a Harry Potter or Star Wars theme. Wait who am I kidding not up to that level yet, so will need to slowly work up to this 😂🤣
You know what. I think this could be made as a fairly beginner project. I bet you could totally pull it off. The bit that thakes the most skill is the tooling but, as long as you take it slow, you will be good😁. I say try it. I think you will surprise yourself!
@@SkillTree well now I have too lol. If I am able to pull all materials together soon I will attempt it after I finish up another project I am working on right now
show me how to make some leather boots of the knee-high jedi style (riding boots), and i'll be your best friend forever. i mean legit boots that i can wear forever.

Um I was seeing you made the strap and I think it would be even better with swivel clasps so you can change between red and black
Now that's a hell of a designer haversack/ messenger bag awesome build
I wouldn’t worry so much about the “streaking” on the leather, gives the leather a natural grain look like in wood. Badass
Thanks! It does have a bit of a wood pattern to it😁
I love that your channel’s artwork is inspired by and NOT an exact reproduction of existing art protected by copyright. It’s smart and respectful copyright law.
They make upholstery tacks with different patterns and designs.

Great build! and just when I thought you couldn't be any cooler, you mention the Wheel of Time !!!!!
So recognizable, the joy when what you're crafting works out great. Well done!
Nice work on the bag. Thanks for the idea of adding wood to the bag.
Love this bag. Reminds me of My Louboutin Shoes.
This was 100% the inspiration of the color palette. My wife has some and the red pop of color is so eye catching.
I'd love to see something similarly done for messenger bag for a Switch and laptop! Nice and slim and pockets for the cords necessary as well as extra games you might have for the Switch. That'd be so dope!
What would be cool is a adventure's pack for dnd cosplay or a bag of holding and put collapsible items in it
The excitement level here is absolutely epic!
"It's a bag!" Loved the process of this one (and your excitement) :)
I confess, I'm not a movie tie-in kinda guy. But the red does pop.
Nice job.
You KILLED this!! So awesome!
@Skilltree. When you use dye, I've found(and Chuck Dorsett@Weaver Leather explained) that he likes the Fiebings Pro Dye because it doesn't get darker with each coat.
Great video, mate. The bag looks slick af. I’d love to see you make a leather hip flask, similar to the one in the pirates of the Caribbean movies

I want to make a briefcase now😂😂
This was the first comment :p
You totally should! I don't need to go to an office so I am just LOOKING for excuses to use this thing oitside 🤣
It WAS!
Try dying with circles instead of side to side with straight lines. It gives a better coating and helps get rid of the streaks.
Thanks, Doug! I will give that a go on my next project!
Or try an airbrush. Once I acquired an airbrush, I only use daubers when I'm feeling lazy or it's tool hot/cold in the workspace
The bag is beautiful. But the loop on the clasp should go over the peg to make a stronger attachment you would have needed to swap the parts for that to work but still.
I think he should make cal kestis’s leather chest plate from Jedi fallen order

Nice bag. Been getting into making stuff as of late. Still remember the shout of from Simon awhile ago.
Wow this bag is awesome, love the color scheme and the metal clasps
Loved the video. An idea for you to do is a wallet

Dope as always

you put the hook on backwards on one side the ring is meant to hold in place while you lock it with the hook

Wet your leather before dyeing. Or get a 1-2oz red pigskin
I have never done a wet dye before. Does it help keep it even?
It does. Wet your leather like you're tooling it let it get back to its natural m color before applying your dye.
I will try this for sure! Thank you for the tip!

Who’s kidding who? You just wanted an excuse to use your Cricut!
Looks amazing but as a woman I know it should probably have feet on it so the bottom doesn’t wear out lol
