The second ghost, the one we got wrong, was a very weird one. As soon as it came out of the basement, it's footsteps got muted (5:40). That's what fooled so many, including me.
First time hearing about the Wraith/Banshee teleport. Only five minutes in an already learning. Love your content, made my first journey into Phas a fun time, and you're making me super excited to dive back in for the new content after not having played in a year. Keep up the good stuff, Insym!
Contrary to popular belief, Banshee and Phantom don't *actually* teleport. They just roam towards their target, which can be observed through the use of motion sensors. Only Wraiths can full on teleport outside of ghost events.
Wraith teleports right on top of you (rare) Phantom roams to you (rare) Banshee roams to you (very often but only if you and the ghost are on the same floor) rare: maybe 0-3 times a game
Your viewers on Twitch and RUclips have only gotten this good because of your upload frequency with this game and detailed explanations of every ghost in multiple scenarios. It's interesting seeing the students becoming as skilled as the teacher.
If anything this video shows how strong the sound effects are in this game... The fact that the ghost is this difficult to figure out without proper sounds should tell us something
I think chat had trouble with thinking the Obake was a Myling is because of the skipped footsteps when it changes ghost model. As it was getting closer, it must have switched models because there was a second or 2 you couldn't hear them.
I find it really comforting knowing that even a youtuber like Insym still gets scared of the ghosts sometimes - when I play the game I go into chihuahua mode and uncontrollably shake from fear lmfao

Regardless of how broken the multiplier is it really helps you learn how to pick through the ghosts. I was super bad at it now when I’m playing like professional or something I can usually tell what it is.
Insym: My son and I have been fans of yours now for a long time (Since before cursed item update) and we are trying to level on the weekends. This weekend we were struggling to get any evidence on like 3 ghosts in a row but the ghost would do some kind of behavior that we learned from you to identify them by. My favorite one was a Ridgeview ghost that I swore knocked on the bathroom window downstairs but all the activity was in the bathroom upstairs but it only did it ONCE so we were thinking wraith or banshee but then I remembered to check the activity board and it was a clear twins! I was so proud because we couldn't get jack from this ghost.
I love this challenge! It's very fun to participate in and I feel like I learn the most during this one. I am quite afraid of hunts in general, its hard for me to focus on hunt clues during hunts when I play myself, but this one is like I can learn and be "on the field" without dying/panicking.
The thing i like about phasmophobia its that everybody can be good at the game. Because to win at this game you need to know how the ghosts work so if you know enough about the game you can be good.

I feel you hit the nail on the head in the first part of your argument and then lost it in the second half. Grinders will always find another way to grind, but with custom games the way they are it means a non-grinder can challenge themselves and be rewarded for it. Putting a hard cap on that removes that incentive and tells the grinders they just need to optimize for that cap.

I watched (and participated) in the live stream, and this was one of my favorite challenges. I’m newer to Phasmo, so I’m not as fluent in each and every aspect of each ghost type… but I got a majority of them correct. Evidently, watching your ghost guides all day while I work pays off. 😂
Maybe a feature where things such as the ghost special affects (aside from speed) become more apparent slowly over time. Or revealed when evidence is found. Like after one evidence you can hear the ghost footsteps clearly not muffled etc. potentially?
Or a mode where multiple ghost inhabit one of the larger buildings, so you have to find the ghost area of building (like a segment of the building where the ghosts are scattered on opposite ends) and then determine the ghost type but because the ghosts can wander they interfere with each other and your evidence or listening to the ghost hunts if that makes sense?
I think probably the best way to have "levels" mean something is instead of just using levels use milestones that give points you can use on something or if cosmetics just straight up give a cosmetic item. (just have an extra 15% or so points leftover after doing every milestone, so it's not too tedious.)

And here i am not even able to figure out what ghost it is, on Intermediate WITH Ears, Eyes, AND Starting Gear. i swear to God man. plus when it Hunts i die 90% of the time, even if i find a damn closet! i just don't know wtf im doing wrong.
They could make it where the sounds are very feint if you are I. Person, not impossible but hard, and the sound is amplified if you are wearing a headset. So someone in the truck can hear the footsteps and make calls that way.
One way Ive seen other games try to encourage playing the game as intended instead of just a cheesy meta is to implement a streak system. Increased rewards the more times you do a task correctly in a row, reset streaks when you get it wrong. At the surface level it gives a risk/reward system for newer players: "Ghost is hunting, do we go back to try to keep the streak, but risk dying and losing our stuff". For higher level players it should make the meta for level grinding the hardest difficulty that you can do correctly every time to keep a streak going. Very surface level idea pitching here, but it works well for some other games.
I wish they add a custom difficulty which makes the ghost to show evidences of a different ghost than itself and you had to figure out both ghosts for example you get evidences of an onryo but the ghost is actually a yurei and you have fill both in your journal , that would be so cool because you get to use both your skills of gathering evidences and ghost abilities.
That sounds so cool!! So apart from the deceptive evidence the actual ghost would have to be figured out only be hunts and behaviour? (Also, would you have to align (definitely not the right wording) the right ghost with the evidence versus behaviour or just punch in the two choices and doesn't matter what aligns with what?)

smudge description seems like it means the smudge lasts 5/6/7 seconds, if it affects the ghost, then the ghost is "disoriented for a few seconds", slowed for 5 seconds, or stunned for 5 seconds.
I love chat=ears challenge, i think it is more fun on big maps though, specifically high school and sunny meadows. The ability to hear is just SO massive on those big maps. Leads to some genuine eeriness
The thing with smudge sticks. It lasts 5, 6, 7 second, and if during this time you are get close enough with ghost, effect on ghost will lasts 5 seconds. You can burn smudge, wait a bit and on last second of it get closer to ghost to blind him for 5 sec. As I see it.
'bout 45mins in and I feel like the best way to make the intended play style more rewarding than just spamming a hunt and figuring out the ghost as such could be adding value to discovering the actual evidence. Finding EMF5 for an EMF ghost, Ghost Writing, etc. Adding a check to the mission results for it. In fewer evidence runs the value for the single evidence provided could be increased to account for the missing one or two. So custom difficulties to a certain point would still be worth a sizeable chunk for their difficulty. For players who enjoy the randomness, could add a separate "Challenge mode" setup where players can hit randomize and get a fixed Money/Exp reward based on those randomized, unlisted settings that reset after the job. So say you hit random and get the worst possible (again unknown) outcome: Zero sanity, pills don't work, breaker broken, zero evidence and no monitors? That's a single run with absurd experience values if successful. This would give players a different experience just about every time, with appropriate/varying rewards. And with the settings hidden, players can't just hit reset until they get a primo setup for exp cheesing.
i think you should be reqarded for getting the right ghost more times in a row, for example lets say you get one ghost: gold is multiplied by .5 you get 2 ghosts after another? Gold is 1x , get 3? you get 1.25x gold. would help encourage players to play well.
This was actually great way of learning no evidence runs. I wish, as much as I like the commentary and I understand that "his job is to entertain" but if Insym was quiet during the hunts it would be easier to hear.
if they removed the starting sanity setting, players would be forced to go through an investigation phase first. because they couldn't just walk in, get a hunt and leave. losing sanity takes a bit of time, so players would have to make use of that time and do evidence hunting
I actually don't want them to change the reward system. It's already taking an awfully long time for me to level up. Nerfing it would be incredibly bad for me. The only reason you think it's easy with custom difficulties is because you're incredibly good at the game. Even though I'm following your advices since way before DOTS was a thing, I'm still dying A LOT when there's a hunt and end up losing all my money. If a ghost sees me during a hunt, you can be sure I will die 80% of the time, even if I'm using a smudgestick. Knowing what to do during a hunt is one thing. Actually doing it is another. (If you think getting at least the bronze trophy is a piece of cake, I still do not have it after all this time.)
I've been loving playing Phas with friends after watching these videos, cause after a hunt or two I can get the ghost correct nearly every single time without fail. Super fun!
I think instead of nerfing the custom difficulty and high multiplier rewards, why not buff/balance the already existing difficulties? I think the reason why people are cheese grinding is because the rewards are so little. The exp required to level up just becomes so tedious in the later levels. Correct me if I'm wrong but like you said in this video, if the devs really want their players to actually play their game (in terms of getting the ghost correct thru collecting evidences and not primarily through hunts), why not make Professional difficulty the main source of getting rewards? Like maybe 5x reward or something for professional. Why Professional? Because, again emphasizing on the devs' wants, you can get all evidences there and you don't even need a hunt to get the ghost. What about Nightmare and Insanity? Well... emphasizing on the devs' wants again... yes you do get evidences but ultimately you actually have to figure out the ghost thru a hunt and that's not what they want right????
You're on to something with the smudges. The tier 3 should impact the ghost's speed-up. That's way more useful than slowing it temporarily. Plus, it would add more variety, versus the L2 and L3 being basically the same today.
Imo, the best way to increase reward gain and get that evidence is this, tie it to the objectives, make the obsurd, doesn't matter, but hevily nerf getting the ghost right, like have the multiplier in place, but tie it to the objectives instead, and certain photos like ghost photo, that way u not only encourage pro players to figure out the ghost fast AND do the objective fast, u encourage playing with more players so u can do multiple objectives fast, while at the same time u encourage newer players to try and actually figure out more stuff than just the ghost, teach them to try and endure hunts. Another way is to incrase the reward from perfect games, i feel getting crazy money and xp is honestly great, i personally like to see my money and levels go crazy, but to balance tie it to playing the game rather than guessing the ghost. my take at least
I think in order to keep people from playing the game is by making the ghost evidence kinda necessary to get the multiplier. Like you only get normal reward of normal run if you don't get ghost evidence.
so, we know dots ghosts could start 'dots state' hunts if they started at the exact time that they were in dots state. we also know ghosts keep the last speed they were at during the last hunt for their ghost events. WHAT IF, obake's ability to change model, were to linger during ghost events, if the last frame of a hunt is when the obake switched model? Not a new ability per say, but a very niche case scenario with very low chance of happening, which is why no one has shown it happening so far? Too bad it turned out to be the same model in the end... but that would be an amazing way to tell obake... though there are plenty of other ways too.

I actually don't want them to change the reward system. It's already taking an awfully long time for me to level up. Nerfing it would be incredibly bad for me. The only reason you think it's easy with custom difficulties is because you're incredibly good at the game. Even though I'm following your advices since way before DOTS was a thing, I'm still dying A LOT when there's a hunt and end up losing all my money. If a ghost sees me during a hunt, you can be sure I will die 80% of the time, even if I'm using a smudgestick. Knowing what to do during a hunt is one thing. Actually doing it is another. (If you think getting at least the bronze trophy is a piece of cake, I still do not have it after all this time.)
I've been loving playing Phas with friends after watching these videos, cause after a hunt or two I can get the ghost correct nearly every single time without fail. Super fun!
I think instead of nerfing the custom difficulty and high multiplier rewards, why not buff/balance the already existing difficulties? I think the reason why people are cheese grinding is because the rewards are so little. The exp required to level up just becomes so tedious in the later levels. Correct me if I'm wrong but like you said in this video, if the devs really want their players to actually play their game (in terms of getting the ghost correct thru collecting evidences and not primarily through hunts), why not make Professional difficulty the main source of getting rewards? Like maybe 5x reward or something for professional. Why Professional? Because, again emphasizing on the devs' wants, you can get all evidences there and you don't even need a hunt to get the ghost. What about Nightmare and Insanity? Well... emphasizing on the devs' wants again... yes you do get evidences but ultimately you actually have to figure out the ghost thru a hunt and that's not what they want right????

You're on to something with the smudges. The tier 3 should impact the ghost's speed-up. That's way more useful than slowing it temporarily. Plus, it would add more variety, versus the L2 and L3 being basically the same today.

Imo, the best way to increase reward gain and get that evidence is this, tie it to the objectives, make the obsurd, doesn't matter, but hevily nerf getting the ghost right, like have the multiplier in place, but tie it to the objectives instead, and certain photos like ghost photo, that way u not only encourage pro players to figure out the ghost fast AND do the objective fast, u encourage playing with more players so u can do multiple objectives fast, while at the same time u encourage newer players to try and actually figure out more stuff than just the ghost, teach them to try and endure hunts. Another way is to incrase the reward from perfect games, i feel getting crazy money and xp is honestly great, i personally like to see my money and levels go crazy, but to balance tie it to playing the game rather than guessing the ghost. my take at least
I think in order to keep people from playing the game is by making the ghost evidence kinda necessary to get the multiplier. Like you only get normal reward of normal run if you don't get ghost evidence.

so, we know dots ghosts could start 'dots state' hunts if they started at the exact time that they were in dots state.
we also know ghosts keep the last speed they were at during the last hunt for their ghost events.
WHAT IF, obake's ability to change model, were to linger during ghost events, if the last frame of a hunt is when the obake switched model? Not a new ability per say, but a very niche case scenario with very low chance of happening, which is why no one has shown it happening so far?
Too bad it turned out to be the same model in the end... but that would be an amazing way to tell obake... though there are plenty of other ways too.
