Microsoft Windows - One Stop (MIDI)

- Here is another MIDI sequence that was used in Windows operating systems, from 2000 to the present. It sounds like a compilation of themes from various genres, like comedy, piano, rock, etc.

When your movie advertisement turns into a Sonic the Hedgehog level, which then turns into aggressive jazz, which then turns into the background music for a king's throne room, which then turns back into jazz, which then turns into a horror movie, which then turns into a piano recital, which then turns into credits music for the end of a video game

2:45 - Credits music for the end of a video game
This is honestly one of my favorite pieces of instrumental music, and I'm glad you uploaded it in the default (Microsoft GS) soundfont. I have a soft spot for this sample-set; the sounds are tinnier than the original Roland SC instruments, but they sound decent, especially when you're just listening to MIDI files over cheap speakers at a low volume. Yes, I was that kid who explored the WINDOWS folder to look for Easter eggs.
OneStop reads like a demonstration for the variety show that rudimentary General MIDI is, both in its high promises of realism, and its limitations that give it interesting quirks. Judging by the synth tones, it's clear the standard was ratified in 1991, in the aftermath of the late 80s. However, MS GS Wavetable Synth is not THE standard sound of General MIDI, and it was rarely used in professional recordings.
It also blends genres in ambiguous ways, adding to the charm:
1. Space cowboy music, written in a world where Fantasia, Brightness, and Atmosphere are defined roles in a contemporary orchestra.
2. 90s uber-cool Sonic the Hedgehog music, combined with Roland keyboard demo music. In the 1980s, a computer that could play that orchestral stab would cost you $65,000, but your Acer Aspire One can do that and so much more.
3. Creepy-crawly music. It sounds like a Pajama Sam level, and a big leap from the faster, more synthy Sonic-music.
4. Come on down to MGM Casino! You are a winner! Decent brass for a default soundfont IMO.
5. For some reason, this makes me think of some film score that represents the rural Midwest. It also sounds very Baroque.
6. Faster Baroque orchestral.
7. This honestly is the most mixed of the genres. The overall feeling is very bluesy, but the drumbeat sounds like it's from some crappy karaoke version of Everybody Wants To Rule the World. Gotta love that Roland piano. It honestly needs to see more use.
8. Tiptoeing in a suspenseful moment.
9. That Roland piano is twangier than I remember, but I always remember it being twangy. The Rock Organ is decent. MIDI electric guitar will only ever sound like MIDI electric guitar. Actually, I take that back. Shreddage 3 is awesome.
It's the Bohemian Rhapsody of default MIDI demo music.
Omg yes ❤
this song is just plain awesome, it changes melodies a lot and very frequently, but it somehow makes sense within the songs rules, interesting ideas coupled with great execution makes this a great song.
Thanks for posting it with the standard Windows sound font. There are a lot of others on RUclips that changed it, and while they sound fine, they just don't sound *right*.
That's because it was written for this specific synthesizer. (Which was based on Roland SC-55, look it up)
Those other versions aren’t changed by the uploaders. It’s the Windows 7 version. I’m assuming that’s what you meant. The W7 version tries to have more flair. I like both versions.
I was looking for this Windows XP version specifically cause when you try looking for Onestop, it’s almost always the Win 7 version that shows up in results.
@@RinTheSpaceDragon when they add more "flair" they actually ruin the original. like many dos songs from games on soundblaster and then..."improved" on roland or whatever
3:42 When the video game credits say "And you, the player"
how is that perfect
Yes 😢
literally the theme of Microsoft Windows as a whole
Exactly! Several MIDI pieces consisting of a variety of genres, feelings, and tempos combined into one file, just like a video or movie presentation.
This was an emotional rollercoster.
This sounds like a RPG song
Windows™️ the RPG!
Kind of.

@@maximal9857 Remember to make canyon.mid the intro
This song suddenly started to play in my head 14 years after heard it going through the windows folders lol, just had to search for it, thank you so much for posting it.
You're welcome! This is cool classic Windows music!
0:00 In a world full of mysteries, you were born as an innocent child.
0:25 With the pride of your parents as a great former warrior, you are willing to follow their steps.
0:38 Instead of studying, you chose to hang out with some friends; having fun with them is better, you said.
1:04 One of your friends was recommending you some illegal activities, such as stealing, robbing, even having drugs.
1:21 Then you agreed! This is awesome, you said.
1:33 While having drugs, you were dreaming that you will marry a king's descendant
1:52 The ceremony is about to start! Better get prepared!
1:59 And you married with a big party being held on 3 days and nights in a big castle. But...
2:16 It's just a dream... You were haunted day by day, screaming in agony with the regrets of your life.
2:44 No worries, my child. You still have more hopes. You still have more time.
3:09 Rise your head! Go with your dreams come true to make proud of your parents!

There's still something left from XP in 10
if only I had windows 10 on my computers
Lit Bass Boost
What do you have?
More like something left from Windows Me
If you search carefully, even 2000 can appear
IE: *Say Sike Right Now*
Think that somewhere at Microsoft was a man hired to do this just so it could be hidden in C:\Windows and for no other purpose.
Actually it was intended to be used in a demonstration to show off SoundBlaster soundcard capabilities in 1998, but due to logistical reasons it got left in, and the demo was never completed and a Composer at Microsoft left the file in.
2:44 to end is my favorite part of the entire song
I just accidentally discovered this while messing around with XP on Virtual Box. I'm already getting the nostalgia vibes lol
Interesting since this MIDI music has always been available on Windows operating systems for speaker testing purposes since the year 2000. It's one of my all-time favorites of the classic Windows operating system era.
This song, more specifically its ending is emotionally powerful in a way that I can't describe in the slightest. The ending gives me a strike of positive motivation and confidence, recently I haven't been doing well mentally (dw, i am doing better) and this song gave me the motivation and sense that put me at ease and it helped me a lot.
This song really is great.
Haha I remember discovering these midi files when I was 13, I was hiding my 'naughty files' within the windows drive folders and stumbled across these tunes. Good memories.
This sounds like something from donkey kong country
and then it slowly strolls over into Seinfeld territory
Yes, or Mother / Earthbound.
Either that or ninga turtles
BlueSpartan 076 ninja
Reminds me of Jungle Japes due to how it seems like a compilation of songs despite them all being in the same song.
I have these MIDI files on every computer in my house.
But does it djœnt ?
Yeah we want to know, does it djœnt?!
So do I!
Except for the Macs.
3:13 I started crying
I can't believe it. I found it. After all these years
The whole song compilation sounds like something out of an MS-DOS game. Anyone else getting that kinda vibe?
Yes, it sure does.
Don’t most DOS games use MIDI?
There's audio in MS-DOS?
KiraPlaysGuitar yes
Yeah
Reminds me of those kid-friendly point and click adventure games from the 90s.
Interesting.
It is just a midi test buildt into windows but it is so well done
Heh. When I was a kid learning music, I especially picked apart this midi file. I'm pretty sure I still use bits and pieces of these line cliches on piano from time to time that I learned from looking at the piano roll of this file.
that trumpet hip hop bit is gangsta - the second.
0:41 sounds like something from the TMNT arcade game, especially with those Konami orchestra hits
Played this on a custom clone hero set list. Love this song
This song made me cry when I was 8 years old
The first part is my favourite
Happy 20th anniversary windows XP!
I love this!
Why are windows midis so good
the last song sounds like you just beat mario kart
it sounds like AND ITS SWEEEEET SWEEET SWEET VICTORY YEAHH to me
2:44 reminds me of piano man by billy Joel
Considering how beautiful that Bill Joel song sounds especially at its beginning, I'd say David Yackley, the composer of this MIDI music, did a wonderful job on pulling off similar piano notes.
2:45 For some reason this reminds me of the soundtrack from Ghostbusters 2.
Sounds like the intro to a horror show.
this was my jam back in the day! 😎
lol I found this when I was looking through the windows folder
0:38 My favorite music
1:59 I like a lot to play this blues on my keyboard!!!
Later part sounds like Mother 3...
last mid song .. just wow 😊😊😊 Microsoft Windows XP 💕💕💕💕💕💕
I remember that I also found out about this midi when I was a kid
GeePM's Bodacious Quest.
Played this on a Windows XP vm, can't believe how long ago this was added
Excellent! I sometimes do the same (both on actual Windows XP PCs and Windows XP virtual machines) because of how amazing it sounds. Isn't it great that Microsoft carried on using it in today's Windows operating systems in order to demonstrate capability of playing MIDI music?
Amazing! :-D
I getting Top Gun a bit
Omg thx
You're welcome!
i was digging through the windows 10 files and found this and i was so confused on why this is in windows
That's strange because this MIDI sequence is a Microsoft creation and it has been featured on Windows operating systems since 2000.
@@CEO100able ITS STILL IN WINDOWS 11!
@@tristanraine Fantastic; just as I hoped! It sounds like Microsoft was willing to carry on the tradition of including MIDI music as sample music in Windows 11. Thanks for letting me know! Congrats, Microsoft!
Nothing is embarrassing when you are listening to these MIDI songs on your Windows 10 PC and all the sudden, fucking stupid windows 10 forces you to restart your computer all because of updates! how humiliating? I'm so glad I ordered a Dell Inspiron 2600 laptop with Windows XP off eBay so I can relive my real nostalgia so I won't have to suffer through humiliation anymore and on my birthday on October 4, 2021, I punched my HP Windows 10 laptop by cracking my screen by punching it whenever a "No items match your search." message kept on appearing when I kept typing too fast! I think Windows 10 deserves the beating it gets! Windows 10 is definitely the most embarrassing operating system Microsoft has ever made!
This is the song of the history of Windows XP. Waiting for an OS that won't be a boring grayscale nonsense. So we got Windows XP, such a colorful OS that promised tons and showed tons and boasted with tons. Such awesome effect, so many mystical system32 icons and goodies, then the awesomeness we made with Windows Movie Maker and MS Paint and Sound Recorder, then the ease of internet access, then the card games, then all sorts of games and plugins we installed there. Everyone loved it. All generations. It didn't matter whether or not you were a Boomer or an X-er, this wasn't only a Millennials' OS; it was what shaped us Millennials and our expectation of what technology is about. But very soon, Microsoft slained Windows XP by ending its updates. No driver support, Windows 7 dies alongside, Windows Embedded gets cut away, Windows 10 keeps getting intrusive updates. The big guys couldn't stand Millennials being in peace. So, new devices with dead flat design and shovelphone formfactors made Millennials completely sensory-deprivated and depressed, causing Boomers and X-ers to attack them. It all started a complete drama online. The fandoms we held dear, the worlds we held dear, the videos and Let's Plays we made and the memes before memes, all crushed and destroyed by the sarcasm and self-deprecation and cringe of the mighty lulz. However, we know that one day when Windows will be fully dead, we'll have kept it in our hearts and we'll have built the Doors to amazing new adventures we've never thought we could make. Making our own OS together under permissive licenses like MIT, BSD, Apache 2.0 and zlib/png and knowing it will stay that way; safe from all political copyright rightisms and copyleft leftisms and libertarianized for everybody to enjoy as the perfect escapism from the real life's problems, annoying politics, toxic parents, fake friends, cringy content and all that has been holding us captive against doing what we love most. This tool will give everyone an opportunity for creativity regardless of how much money they have. That way, everyone will be able to get money by doing what they love most and everybody will meet everybuddy in real life and live in fellowship knowing that it all used to be Windows XP which has given us the hopes and dreams that will have finally been realized into an actual lifestyle of having likeminded people together to live with where we want and how we want while doing what we want, enjoying today while hoping for a better tomorrow.

I first listened to this when I was a sophomore in mah high school days
at the first part of the onestop midi it sounds kinda scary to me but then it turns less scarier
I like how negative the beginning is 😂
Flourish, Onestop and Town are NOT located anywhere inside of Windows 2000's Media folder.
So go watch mine.
