grew up with these stoves 50 years ago
Optimus makes great stoves. The hiker is one of my go to stove. I use the 111 kerosene version probably the most. I have several 111t, 111c and 111 kerosene. Great reliable stoves. The 111b which is the gasoline version I have 1. All great stoves.
I just bought a complete 111B at a flea market for $18.00. I am going to do a complete restoration on it in December. Your video was very helpful.
Looking pretty good. Might want to invest in a ultrasonic cleaner. The work wonders. Use it at the motorcycle shop for cleaning carburetors.
Great very therapeutic well done zen stove
Really useful right now as I just discovered my dad's ancient Optimus stove. No idea how to use it until watching this video. Needs cleaning in a similar way.
I really enjoye watching these videos of these stoves Ernie ! It looks like alot of fun !! Take care and stay safe my friend
Dude we need a weekly stove rebuild
I really like this stove; it's so utilitarian and mad max at the same time. I want one.
Oh, forgot to say, love all your videos! Many thanks for taking the time to film, edit etc.
Nice like old school
I really enjoy watching your stoves cleaning videos and all maintenance stuff you do on it ! Thanks a lot for all the explanations you provide during the process, if one day I need to repair, clean, restore, or just do some little things in stoves like this I will for sure refere to your channels !
Have a nice Sunday Ernie, and stay safe :)
Awesome video Ernie!👍🏻🇺🇸
I’m in heaven 😮 these video just are out of this world.🤩🤗🇬🇧bri
6:04 There may have been a lead NRV/check valve washer/seal stuck inside the pump tube.
I had an 8R. Wish now I did not sell it in a yard sale oh well. Kept my vintage Svea 123 because of weight. Still works great!
Doesn't the on/off valve have a built in "pricker"? Didn't notice you removing and checking it! As I recall it works on a miniature rack and pinion type assembly and is a replaceable part.
Yeah, you have to be careful to get the gears times to the right tooth. It's been a long time, though. Can't remember the procedure. Haha! As clean as this one was inside, I don't think it was necessary to remove it. Not sure he knows it's there though. Or it may be missing.
I love these videos you've been doing on these old stoves! Can't beat them and I still use my Optimus No.00 often. I've done a few videos on my channel with it.
Great video as always. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Optimus Prim approves this video…….😉😘🤪🤪🤪
you forgot to decarbon the pipes inside of the burner (with a tiny steel brush and quenching it in cold water) and to replace graphite gasket inside the regulator mechanism=)=) as well as clean up the needle and the spindle hehe..
Well, it was nice, but the ONE THING I really needed to see wasn't included - namely taking the regulator and graphite seal apart and then assemble it the right way so that the burner works well without excess fuel coming out.
Nice looking stove. I just walked past an Optimus 99 at the thrift shop. I lusted after it for a minute then walked away, wasn't quite worth the argument with the wife🙂
Thanks Dr. Ernie.Nice restoration. Can you use white gas to prime it rather than alcohol?
Yes.
You can also pressurize the fuel tank and open the valve to fill the pre heat reservoir, that way you don't have to carry another container for pre heating.
@@nigelnightmare4160 correct, but it's sooty as hell that way. A little alcohol bottle fits in the case nicely. As does a mini butane torch. Hint. Using alcohol keeps it nice and clean.
How many btu is this?
Wheres the cleaning needle?
It's on a rack under the jet. He evidently didn't mess with it, or it was missing. The valve stem has a pinion gear on it to raise and lower it. If I recall correctly these are 1/4 turn valves.
