Alison Krauss has the Lord closely watching over her. She never strays too far without stopping and Giving God the glory with her blessed partner Ron Block. She never claims to be a gospel singer but has just as much power if not more than most contemporary Christian Singers. She has blessed and ministered to me for more than 20 years. I have total respect for this incredible woman.
What has happened to our music today? Most christian music these days has gone to the contemporary music. Churches today do not even sing out of the hymnals anymore. All the music is up on a screen. This is so beautiful. I wish we could go back to this kinda music.
This was just done at a Christian Ministry retreat that they go to in Alabama. I like how Miss Krauss invites the audience to join in. Like she's leading worship.
Amen dear Judi, and Jesus Christ is the only way to God..John14;6......the only propitiation for our sin ..1John2;1---3....and he saves to the uttermost..Hebrews7;25....AMEN..JESUS CHRIST IS LORD...MY LORD
One of my favorite songs ever and what an awesome voice singing this video. Alison Krauss can sing anything. You have blessed me tonight beyond anyone's imagination. Thank you both.
I think Ron is playing in drop-d tuning. alisonis, by far, has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. I have saw her in earlier days at a couple of Bluegrass festivals and she never fails to blow me away. I really wish she would come back close to here. I would love to meet her as well as Union Station again. they are all wonderful. God Bless.
+Donnie Dyer Loved your post about Allison Krause "Near the Cross". Do you play guitar? I tried this song playing along with Ron Block, He is in standard tuning capoed on the 1st fret. Then it is the D-maj., G, and A fingering. Of course some fingering can be added like alternating base notes, sus4 and so on. Hope this helps if you want to play along.
+Donnie Dyer I watched a second time and it looks like Ron changed the capo to the 3rd fret. (If you look at the back of the guitar in opening scene it is on the 1st fret). Both work , you would change the fingering to C-Maj, F-Maj, and G-Maj. Sometime this is done to make adding fills easier, or because the capo tends to get in the way when playing A for example. Sometimes when we play 2 guitars, one for example would play E-Maj, and the second would capo the 4th fret and play a C-Maj, which is the same chord. Try both ways and play along. I hope this helps.
+Ted Rowland You're absolutely right, and have a good sight: as the key for this song is Eb (often used by AKUS to fit Alison's voice), the 3 main chords are Eb, Ab and Bb (fingering C, F and G with the guitar capoed on 3rd fret). Many players add two extra passing chords, Gm and Cm, (steps IIm and VIm for the Eb major scale, fingering Em and Bm on the capoed neck) to enrich the comping.
Listening to the one who took the video sing along makes my heart sing. I love Alison K - hearing others make a joyful noise along with her is what it is all about. Peace.
Very beautifully done! Epitome of what music is supposed to be. Ron Block is so multitalented when it comes to Gospel music and Alisons voice is so spiritual and moving. These two together, is just beyond words...As long as they are around, there is still hope for music.................
Reminds me so much of my youth when we sang these beautiful songs in church. Alison Krauss could make any song sound great, but the combination of great music and a heavenly voice makes this touch anyone who hears it.
Such majesty, such power. The simplicity of her performance is utterly striking. She is not glorying in herself (although most would say she's got alot to crow about) Keep it simple & sweet - how much better when He is glorified because He loves to allow us to enter in & share in that precious joy.
To Banjohombre: Amen, Brother. Thank God we have that angelic voice to inspire us. I realize that she was a prodigy on the fiddle/violin, but it certainly seems as if she modeled her singing style to emulate a violin. I simply cannot believe how pure her voice is...I can't go long without listening to it. God bless Ron Block too...how awesome is this guy? Can't wait to hear them again when they come back to Mississippi.
it was enlightening to watch them try to find (or maybe remember??) the right key to play/sing this!! just like plain ol' regular folks. i'm sure they are plain ol' regular folks, just immensely talented, yet truly, really humble.
Well Tim Lawson, it certainly would be awesome to hear you singing this along side Alison Krauss, I’m assuming it is you I hear during last chorus! Such a nice voice!
So thankful that I know what she's singing about. And I know she has to know about it too, she sings it with such conviction. Love her, love her voice!!
@ Tim Lawson, Bro... You have such a blessed vocal cords... & I am so glad to hear you glorifying Him along with Alison. Blessings brother. Would love to hear more of your vids glorifying the King of Kings.
God didn't just say, "I love you!" He demonstrated it. God got *_real_* with us, so to speak. He sent his only son who left his throne; and so the Word, Jesus, became flesh. Behold the Lamb of God! They mocked him, whipped him, cursed him, beat him, spat upon him, drove a crown of thorns into his skull. In mockery, they gave him a staff and blind-folded him and would hit him and say, *"Prophesy! Who hit you?"* In mockery, they gave him a crown of thorns because he said he was a king. They nailed the Lamb of God to the cross. The religious leaders said, ""He saved others; himself he cannot save."" Then to make sure he was dead, they drove a spear into his side and blood and water poured out. The atonement for mans sins was paid by God in full; yet in a way, we all nailed him to the cross; and yet Jesus said, "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." For God so loved the world and Jesus demonstrated it by his obedience to the Father, even unto death upon a cross. This is what I see when I hear this song: images of Christ's humiliation, obedience, suffering and his shedding of blood and water for me and for all. May all believe on Jesus for the forgiveness of sin and salvation. peace
Great post. Loved the ending in particular. (And thank you, holding-or-at-least-standing-close-enough-to-the-camera-guy, for adding a nice harmony at the end - unlike so many RUclips posts where, well, you know . . . .:-0)

Dolly Parton once said that she was sure that if she could hear an angel, it would sound like Alison Krause. I think so, too.
One of the most beautiful hymns ever. One of the most beautiful voices ever. Absolutely THE most beautiful truth Ever. Nuff said.
Isn't it great that we have an Alison Krauss to listen to?
What has happened to our music today? Most christian music these days has gone to the contemporary music. Churches today do not even sing out of the hymnals anymore. All the music is up on a screen. This is so beautiful. I wish we could go back to this kinda music.
A perfect marriage the clear voice of Alison Krauss and the words of Fanny Crosby. Awesome!
This was just done at a Christian Ministry retreat that they go to in Alabama. I like how Miss Krauss invites the audience to join in. Like she's leading worship.
Alison Krauss is AMAZING!!!!!! That voice is so pure and expressive. I can't find the words to express what her voice does to my spirit.
When Allison sings for the first time in heaven, everybody will stop what they are doing and listen.
Today is Ash Wednesday.
It was not the nails that held Christ to the cross, but His love for you and for me.
Amen dear Judi, and Jesus Christ is the only way to God..John14;6......the only propitiation for our sin ..1John2;1---3....and he saves to the uttermost..Hebrews7;25....AMEN..JESUS CHRIST IS LORD...MY LORD
Judi Harbin Amen

Two of the best musicians on the planet.....a guitar player and a woman with the voice of an Angel.....
Listening to the one who took the video sing along makes my heart sing. I love Alison K - hearing others make a joyful noise along with her is what it is all about. Peace.
LOL she is too funny! and I love love love love love her and Ron playing/singing together...
Breathtaking vocals! Alison really does have the voice of an angel!!
I listen to this again & again~~so pure; and her preceding commentary really just illustrates the point of the song.
Isn't it odd---- one of the worlds most beautiful voices , and still unknown to some
My Daddy always told me 'When we get to heaven and hear the angels sing this is how they will sound'
What a beautiful voice singing a beautiful song.

I wish she had recorded a studio version of this. This is perfect! I hope she knows the One she is singing about.
She does.

Being an old hippie(that got born again)...let me say HEAVY!
I sang Saprano with this Angelic Voice, and felt His Presence! Glory be to God!
She has such an ethereal quality to her voice, so pure and clear. Truly the voice of an angel.
God blessed this lady, her voice truly made in Heaven.
Yes, the harmony at the end was beautiful... a Vince Gill voice if ever I heard one... Beautiful. Thank you for posting.
Wow. I'm speechless by how her voice fits this song. I just wanted to hear the lyrics, and now I'm blown away.
Her voice brings me to tears! Never heard her sing so powerfully before.
There are NO words to describe that voice and how it goes right through my soul.
