Only later, like in dortmund, did he have to improve his heading and target man side of the striker game, but still he was primarily a transition, in-behind, and finisher type of striker. This is probably the first time in his career he’s being asked week after week to play like Heskey, and in even physical battles (Rüdiger) he lacks some fundamentals. Compare him to Lukaku or other physical specimens and Haaland doesnt know all the fundamentals to that side of the game when it comes to backing into the defender. Its another reason why city isn’t a good fit for Haaland unless they help him develop more in this area. City have to play to Haalands strengths more and Haaland has to improve at playing to city’s strengths.
@@lexkanyima2195 Lukaku was already humongous at the age of 16 while Haaland was still growing. Lukaku has always been very strong at backing into defenders and turning off the defender or creating a yard of space. Haaland has never been this player. That is the comparison.
In games with friends and classmates, I used to play like that. If I had the ball, I'd try to keep control in front of a defender and not run away from him immediately. Once you get the ball like that, as Henry explained, you can look around. You can have more control, and so you have room for a pass or quickly try to shoot forward if you're in the box. A tall guy like Halaand shouldn't feel insecure about it. He's not using his physique when he tangles with an opponent.
this is why football is the most followed sport in the world: you can play it with your friends in a park but it can also be this kind of deep and complex. amazing.
A lot of this is basics, but so many people do wrong. If you ask for the ball as a striker, ask it deep. I think Pep wants Messi to play as his false 9 and David Villa to play on the wing and have them interchange positions. Other than that I'm not sure Pep knows what he wants. Zlatan was tall AND technically gifted and Pep didn't want him. Pep didn't want the tall Mandzukic, but was fine with Lewa, who is a classic "9" himself, yet a very refined one. But then did Pep ever like Aguero, who is short and nifty? Gabriel Jesus and Sterling weren't good enough for him either. Then Pep bought Haaland, so he wanted the tall technically limited striker in this case to finally win him an UCL for City and it somehow worked out in Haaland's first season. But now he's probably thinking, if this is still the best fit. But is Pep really full on convinced about Alvarez being the solution to his problems? I doesn't look like it, because Haaland gets more starts.
@@JarrettMehldau You raise some very good points, Pep did love aguero though - 124 goals & 29 assists in 182 games is quite impressive and that was Aguero under Pep. Sterling was great at first but kept missing extremely easy chances - one of which cost city an important UCL game if I remember correctly & he’s only gotten worse at Chelsea- Jesus just never met the high demands of a Pep centre forward- even at Arsenal he’s not meeting the demands there either. Lewa is the exceptional exception because He’s an exceptional talent. For Haaland I think he’s style of play has now become predictable to defenders and he seems to have no back up, whenever he is fit he’ll always start ahead of Alvarez because even though I believe Alvarez is more peps style overall - things like contract clauses would see Haaland in the first 11 more than any striker at City - plus Alvarez still has a few more years before He gets to Aguero levels but once he’s there he’ll be unstoppable.
@@WitdFlo You think there are contract clauses for Haaland to play? I've never heard about something like that in professional football, granted I'm an outsider to the business.
@@JarrettMehldau Oh yeah definitely! Every player gets a level of importance at every club. What Micah is explaining is what Kim Jon Un did to Vinicius last night and look how it went...if a striker is that fast you can't follow him like that.
Its simple guys... haaland doesn't have the technique on the ball to even begin to be comfortable under pressure. Even when he was at molde..it was clear to anyone that because he was such a good finisher, he was never asked to refine his technique. Basically he was so good at one thing that him and his coaches didnt bother working on the other aspects of his game. This is why harry kane, benzema, etc are better...they refined the technical aspects first, then added goals. Haalands blessing became his curse in that he had goals and didn't refine the technical aspects. Unfortunately when you are old as a footballer, it is very hard to fix issues with technique
This might be a weird take, but one player I think Haaland could learn a lot from watching is Giroud, who was an underrated player. Giroud's goal return wasn't great, his finishing was inconsistent and he lacked the pace to run in behind, which coincidentally, are areas where Haaland excels. But, Giroud's aerial ability, target man play, and link up play was his strongest assets and he was good at pinning defenders too. It's funny that those are the areas where Haaland needs to improve.
Haaland doesn't utilize his size to his advantage .. players like Drogba, Van Nistelrooy , R9, used their strength to shield the defender and or spin off to the goal .. just like Henry is showing.. this is the difference of football from these guys era to today's era
Now you know that the blonde dude with the penalties and tap ins and kdb feeding at least 10 classic assists a game was NOT robbed at the ballon dor. Ballon dor winners don't vanish at games like that . Absolutely VANISHED.

What Micah is explaining is what Kim Jon Un did to Vinicius last night and look how it went...if a striker is that fast you can't follow him like that.
Micah was a proffesional. All you guys in the comment section were not
The legend henry lqdies and gente! What did you expect madrind had to bring that defence!
Haaland ghost again 😂😂😂😂
The ultimate ghost of Manchester City
I just forget how genius Henry is
Erling watched this and now we're going to see him holding hands with defenders but it's a TRICK date and he'll do the swirl and shoot.
Haaland would be good in the Madrid or Newcastle team with their attacking, City try and pass their way into the goal.
Henry with the flex at the end we see you Titi
I hope Haaland can take a bit of time to watch this mannnnnnn
I feel like I should be paying for this clinic!
Lol this is like a remake of that video where Hazard shows Henry how he holds off defenders 😂
Only this time it's Henry showing Jamie and Micah.
Now you know that the blonde dude with the penalties and tap ins and kdb feeding at least 10 classic assists a game was NOT robbed at the ballon dor. Ballon dor winners don't vanish at games like that . Absolutely VANISHED.
Gabriel Jesus, ironically, is excellent at receiving the ball with his back to goal, and under heavy pressure. He seems to magically come away with the ball.
Jamie loves doing this😂😂
"Come on show me then"
Lukaku absolutely humiliated him last time he did
I do think I have seen Haaland do the sideways shield at times but not all the time.
Jamie secretly seeking redemption while defending Thierry 😂😂😂
04 Highbury trauma
Henry is right ,Haaland can def perfectly do that with his size.will be difficult to take from him the ball with his physicality
Erling should watch this video
This is gold
I loved watching this 🙂
