I'm looking at one that's for sale in my area this weekend. The first one that came up in the 14 years that I've been searching for a diesel generator. Some people are telling me that I shouldn't be spending over five grand on one of these and that the parts are impossible to get or very hard to obtain.
I have a military generator set model MEP-803A. the engine will not start. The control panel light says no fuel but the tank is completely full. The engine will run when sprayed with starting fluid only. The engine is an onan 4 cyl. diesel. *I would like to have a manual on the motor. Anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it???
first of all I'd try to check, fix or just bypass the fuel level sensor, it's usually the only two wires coming out of the fuel thank then if it still wouldn't start i would check the fuel pump and make sure the engine is getting fresh fuel, at that point it should start or it's probably not worth fixing
Flip the Battle Short switch and then try and start it, if it starts and runs then you have an electrical problem. The Battle short switch will bypass the sensor like Scarry was talking about.

Solid military gennie.
For long run the efficiency is important, how much fuel is used to operate this generator for 24 hours with 50 percent of load?
Those generators are underrated by gov intentionally just like all their equipment, because they know private screwball will max out.
Im from Australia nice solid commercial unit however its ashame they don't make them to run at 1500rpm still good old reliable
It's a mechanical governor, you can throttle it down to 1500 to get 50Hz
They have frequency adjustments built in, some models are designed to go down to 50hz with the twist of a knob
It runs at 1800 rpm to make 60hz..
you might need 50hz, that’s probably about 1500 rpm.

Green mountain generators has all manuals free on website
If it still not running, check to see if someone installed an in-line shut off valve for the fuel.
When they sit, they varnish up injection pump.
@3:28 "I don't recommend doing this if you don't know what your doing"...
You only added temptation to the ones who don't by that comment!
What kw is it and will it run an ac unit in the summer?
30kw 30000watts

The MEP OO3a is a 10000 watt unit. Depends on the size of your ac unit
My mep-803a just the newer water cooled version of the 003a runs three 3 ton units all at once

I know this is an old comment but my 003a runs my two ton AC unit no issue plus other stuff.
VERY fast
