Maybe when you’re walking in the mornings take some flyers with you and offer a free drink with dinner initially as a hook in or maybe a little starter ? People love a freebee 🙂 oh and Australia loves Thailand 🇹🇭 😊
Hey Richie, my Thai wife and I have had a Thai restaurant on the Goldcoast Australia for 17 years now (Ozthai).
It's a bit hard to compare to yours in Phuket, but once you become well known for your quality food and service, the customers will come. And once high season starts, you'll kick arse mate. So don't stress buddy, all businesses have ups and downs as you know by now, you guys started at the hardest time (covid) and did well.

Seeing as the cafe has a good Thai cook and you'd make a good host, you might put on a simple Thai cooking class for the tourists during one of the quiet periods? Might be worth a try if there's enough space.
As a cafe owner myself, don't try to be all things to all people. Sure some people might come for dinners, but is it worth the time, cost and effort long term? Trying fri/sat nights is a good idea to start with. All the best!
I agree... Fri/Sat and also push it with some promo to people in town (2 for 1 beer, jazz evening, half price on the 3rd dish.. etc etc)

IMO , it’s like a fashion shop . You need to be near foot traffic mate . Uproot an get somewhere on kata . Take the plunge . Nothing ventured, nothing gained .

If the evening hours do not fly. Have you tried just booking parties in the evenings. That way you know ahead and charge a higher rate. Perhaps change your name to just Maybelle's, coffee makes it seem like a morning place. Got to give it some time.You can update your google business listing. change the hours

Drop the coffee, from maybelles coffee garden, sounds like coffee and cakes stuff, try maybelles garden restaurant, flyers would help, but word of mouth is best along with website , i just checked on google maps here in Australia and your restaurant clearly shows wher you are and you have a five star rating 😂👌👍 Australians are traveling o/seas in record numbers, bali and Thailand are very popular destinations, relax Ritchie😂 an update on how Maybelline and baby is going would have been nice, but business and money are clearly the priority, very important in thai culture to involve family and potential customers.

It feels like the whole tourism has become different after the pandemic. Nothing is the same anymore (a bit unpredictable), and sometimes difficult to put the finger on what when where and how.. 🤷♂
just start evenings on weekends or a couple nights a week and build it up from there.. save costs.. I dunno about the rest of Europe but there is a huge cost of living crisis going on back home here in UK and flights have gone through the roof so I have a feeling this season quite a few will be skipping their Winter Asia getaway or shortening its duration... sadly... but thats how it is.. everything gone up by about 30%+ here so harder to save for winter getaways this yr... keep going with it but maybe just do thu-sat to start with?? or open when other places close in the week, if they do??

Its early November the seasons been an unusual one, you may have to wait another month before it truly kicks off. You never know, the season may go on longer. Were in unpreceneted times Richie. Youve got to try and move forward, which is what youre doing. Never stand still, go with your instincts and 9/10 itll work out. Ive seen you before looking into the supposed abyss, something happens and boom !

All takes time my friend, but at the same time, if after a decent trial period, and enough advertising, that there aren't enough profits, then either do something different to test that or revert back to the previous model. Much love from the UK.

Look … in my very humble view .. location is everything… you have done so much and more … but in any situ there are limitations and hurdles !! Money had never been tighter !!! Things have changed !!! Some business will survive and prosper !! But for me you have done everything you can ! Sit tight hopefully high season will help slot and you will reap rewards ❤

All of these airlines have dramatically bumped up their Long Haul flights. I forsee much less tourists coming to Thailand unless airlines start to drop their prices.
From Edinburgh Turnhouse and Glasgow International I used to pay Return Flt between £485 to £545+ now between 1st Nov 23 thru to May 24 prices are approx £800+ to £1300+ I wish you and Maybelle all the good luck for your new evening hours.

I have to agree with you my friend. I'm flying out for Xmas and New Year with my family (wife and 2 adult daughters) from Newcastle for 2 weeks into Phuket with Emirates (via Dubai) it's costing me nearly £8k for economy flights, crazy but we always wanted to visit Thailand and we will be heading over to Maybelle's to support them.

I could be wrong but, I believe Trip Advisor is still the primary driver for tourists. I'm sure they'll use Maps to find you but they probably still start their search on TA
I think Richie is probably right. A few years ago I would always use trip advisor but haven't looked at it for a long time. On recent holiday to Turkey we found good restaurants, hair salon and cafes on Google maps, checked the reviews and made an informed decision. I'm in my 60s, I know my son 35 uses Google maps all the time on holiday. Just my view.
Still early days.. Don't worry too much Rich, the crowd will start picking in November !

Your place looks like it also would be good to go to after dinner in another restaurant to finish off the evening with coffee and desert as well. We would do that in New york city and los angeles. Thats another group of people you could entice into your place but give them small cafe tables and more relaxed seating instead of the dinner tables. This would give you people who don't want to eat at your place every time they go out, but like the coffee and deserts along with the atmosphere.

I don’t think the lack of customers is a reflection of your business acumen more an insight into the current global financial situation post covid and the rising cost of people being able to afford holidays. Been travelling to Thailand for 30+ it’s become expensive post covid. Good channel👍

There are thousand,s of resturant,s in kata karon and chalong.within walking distance of people,s hotel,s.Whh would they travel up to your place then have to risk being stranded there with no way to get back to their hotel.95% of tourist,s don,t have transport.And it,s far to far to walk on such a dangarpus dark hill.Stick to the day trade mate good luck
Mate you'll be fine, hang in there till the busy season and it'll pay off in the end. I'm still setting in Taiwan but i will come across because i've never been to Thailand. Just keep thinking i'm not going back to britian 😆. I do all the time! haha. Oh and stop drinking an eating the profits 🤣🤣🤣
I would trim the area around where the streets meet. I would hire a couple of attractive girls with signs pointing to the coffee shop during peak hours. maybe kickback to tuk tuk drivers for brining guests. all while keeping my eye peeled for a better location that is affordable. I hear some mary jane shops might be closing down. just been remodeled.
The real question is, Are you ready to move into a new location if one comes available?
