I was fortunate enough to have seen this production seated about five rows back from the stage. I am ashamed to say that I had never really heard of Helen McCrory before this but by the end of the evening I was completely devastated by her performance and she shot right to the top of my list of the truly great stage actors of all time. It was all I could talk about with my friends in London and when I got back to the States. I am beyond sad that she is gone. I don’t think what she did can be copied, taught or replaced. I am grateful this magnificent performance is on film.
Truly brilliant actress. Great range to give such accomplished performances in roles as diverse as Hester Collyer and Medea, to name just a couple. She’ll be much missed.
@Vincit OmniaVeritas Yeah, I got into the play a lot actually. I had watched the Rachel Weisz movie not long before and thought it was missing something, so watching it as an "unedited" play was new for me. It was also interesting to hear the audience read to it. I found the watch refreshing and I became much more interested in the plot too.
I so admire the National for filming and releasing Masterpieces like this for those of us who probably would never get to see it otherwise. Ms. McCrory's work is now available to more admirers and that is wonderful. RIP to a good person and magnificent actor. RIP
Feel so lucky to have seen this live. So good that captured on film. What a wonderful performer - and a wonderful person, clearly. Condolences to her family and friends.
I had so hoped to get to travel to London one day and see Helen McCrory perform. She's been one of my favorite actresses since I was a kid, and it's hard to believe she's no longer with us. Her death hit a little different. One of my best friends and I absolutely love this production (we each have the National Theatre copies of the play with Helen on the cover, as well as copies of The Last of the Haussmans and Medea), and we're very happy that it's available for everyone to watch. ❤️
Happy birthday Helen! Today is also my birthday But You were younger than me. I m sure your children Will always Be proud of their extraordinary mom so as your husband. Please stay with us with your talent, your beauty and your strength. Love from Verona!
when a public figure, celebrity, etc. , passes away, I make sure I remember that a PERSON died, someone with a family, loved ones, etc. She'll be sadly missed as an actress, but a good person as well. She did some charity work about a month before she passed. Well done Helen.
Thanks for uploading more plays. Can you upload 'Present Laughter' or 'Hamlet'? Anything with Andrew Scott is fine. Looking out for visiting the Theatre in person. Much love from Germany! 🌹🌷🌻
What a gift to the world she was.

Ugh that just hurts my soul that she died. So young, so talented, so much more work to do. ;(
