I love how British Sonic Lore tried to be consistent with the American bible and some extras meanwhile America had AoStH, SatAM, and Archie fumbling about biting eachother on Mobius.
Haha true! It was bound to happen with Sega licensing the property to multiple companies, whereas the UK only had Sonic the Comic and the Virgin Books which didn’t really contradict each other with their characters of backstories.
The best part about Sonic being turned into a toaster is that he shot out whatever he toasted at super-high speeds. Tails grabbed a bag of waffles and was able to shoot his way into Robotnik's lab, using Sonic the Toaster as Sonic the Gun. He only failed at the end because he ran out of waffles.
I was so tempted to include this part, but the video was already long as it is and trying to keyframe Tails shooting the badniks with the toaster gun was a pain in the ass so I gave up lmao. Thank you for mentioning it, genuinely the most unhinged part of any Sonic novel imo.
Something tells me they were slight inspirations for the later designs of Porker and Johnny, but I don’t think it’s ever been outright confirmed. Oh god yeah, these books and StC are filled with insane storylines haha.
I have all four of these books, and it's nice to see them getting some attention. They're certainly a wild ride: Porker Lewis as Pinhead from Hellraiser, a flying Kremlin dropping giant tetris blocks on Tails, Robotnik singing a parody version of "My Way," Mickey the Monkey talking like Dick Van Dyke doing "cockerney," robot parodies of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Steven Spielberg... Also, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't kill to see Arctur return in the Sonic universe in some way. He was such a great character.
I have no idea if Sargent or Gascoigne were responsible for the insane shit that happens in the former’s books, but good god, I love it lmao. Yes, I’d love to see Arctur again! He’s easily my favourite of all the original villains to come out of my country’s Sonic related media.
These books were great. I heard about them via Sonic the Comic the Podcast and 4th Dimension was surprisingly great. I just wish there was more fan art of these characters
im quite surprised that this video only has 422 views, this is a supremely entertaining piece of media, and i believe that this should have a substantially higher amount of views than it currently does.
"It is so unbearably How do you do fellow Kids" Me: Oh, well that's kinda disappointing, but expected... "Which is ripe with Puns, 4th-Wall Breaking & Food Strangely Enough" Me: NOW We're Talking! That's (Mostly) the Kind of Looney Tunes esque Humor I (again, mostly) ask for in a Western Comic!
Sorry for being late to even left a comment... but I find it funny how the opening 15 seconds already got me. Honestly I find these interesting on their take of the Sonic lore, they're surprisingly consistent. Also, the first book having Sonic turning into a toaster is a sign of them already cooking something interesting. Makes me wonder what would Tails be, an oven? The edit of Tails grabbing a planet and flies out the PC got me laughing more than I would like to admit. These stories are pretty wild but cool.
No worries! Yeah, I think the UK was pretty good at synergising everything related to Sonic, they didn’t stray too far from the games or the lore. Glad you enjoyed the edits, they’re always a lot of fun to make! :)
@@BlucklesTheGlitchidna The final fight has Sonic and Robotnik bouncing around the transformation machine, turning back and forth into things. Sonic wins, so he walks out a hedgehog while Robotnik is left as an egg timer.
Love the Virgin novels, such oddball stories I'll never get over the fact that Sonic and Tails witnessed a chaos emerald charged Big Bang or the existence of Eric the Echidna or Cinos. Great video!
Thank you for the kind words! eBay prices for the books are pretty steep as they’re quite rare nowadays, so if you don’t mind not having a physical copy of them like me, then reading them via the internet archive is a decent way to go. :)
I hope someday, a Sonic animator will take it upon themselves to make a 3D animated adaptation of this. Also, I feel like The Fourth Dimension would have been a better book to end off on.
It’d be great to see, but a lot of work would need to be done. Something like a motion comic might be more feasible. Agreed, Fourth Dimension is probably the perfect ending, and the books don’t have any chronological order to them, they just take place after Sonic 2.
I made a point to hunt all these books down on E-Bay, including the six Adventure Gamebooks (any chance of covering them?). The humour to me does feel reminiscent of Danger Mouse, which is probably why I enjoyed them. Also, Porker Lewis and Johnny Lightfoot as Pinhead and Jason parodies was just plain warped. It does seem like there were more books planned given the ending of Castle Robotnik.
I’ll definitely talk about the gamebooks at some point, could be fun! To me, the humour feels like something you’d see in the Beano. God the horror parodies in ‘Castle Robotnik’ are just bizarre, honestly don’t have words for some of them lmao. Seems so, yes! I’d like to find out for myself - might even be some unpublished manuscripts or ideas out there!
I find it funny that the first echidna (Eric) and the first variant of Evil Sonic (Cinos) in this franchise predates Knuckles and Scourge by a few months lol.
Don’t blame you haha! You should be able to find at least two of them on the Internet Archive as that’s how I accessed them, but the others aren’t on it.
That’s one of the gamebooks iirc, which aren’t the same as the ones I discussed in the video. I’ll definitely cover those ones sometime though, they’re pretty interesting!

Just started watching the video and hearing that Sonic becomes a toaster in the first book made me know that they were gonna be something special.
You better believe it haha!
I think it's a shame Sega never released actual Sonic Toasters.
@@minicle426 They actually did but were a very limited run only in the US

(5:07) "Step 2: Naming the Character! Sonic's long lost brother? Name him: Cinos! Its Sonic... Spelled... Backwards! Tehehaugh!"
They were being consistent with "Robotnik" being "Kintobor" spelt backwards
Sadly not created in Dr. Eggman’s super secret underwater volcano lab in space :(
That rabbit and pig look like Bugs and Porky
still, British Sonic has some crazy plots
Something tells me they were slight inspirations for the later designs of Porker and Johnny, but I don’t think it’s ever been outright confirmed. Oh god yeah, these books and StC are filled with insane storylines haha.
These are such an interesting piece of Sonic history. Nice to have someone talk about these old books in a RUclips video!

Right in the nostalgia!
Glad it gave you a throwback! :)

Aye, they’re mostly really good! Agreed, they’re very underappreciated in that circle of the fandom :)
I feel like someone should do an audio adaptation and release it on Audible.
I found my copies at a car boot sale, couldn't understand what I was looking at

Don't remember what Tails turned into anything (if he was) but Eggman was turned into an Egg Timer at the end

Wait, so Eggman turns into his own creation? I thought he would turn into simply an egg, since... you know, Eggman

Robotnik for no reason: “I’ll defeat that hedgehog by turning him into a Toaster.”💀
ah yes Sonic The Toaster

I appreciate it, the animations do take quite a bit of time to keyframe and sort out!
I don’t as obsessed with Sonic in the 4th Dimension as a kid! Without being bleak, it got me through some hard times 😅😅
Bless you, I'm glad it was able to help you through that and you have fond memories of it!
Thanks for the video, it's awesome
Never knew these books were a thing
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed!
ah yeah i love your vids and sonic bro keep up the good work man 😉

heck yeah !!! the british novels !!! i gotta read them and attempt to cram them into my super special project !!!

I know! It's definitely a neat bit of trivia!
This is Why Europe have the Best Sonic fans XDDD
Facts haha
Learnt these books from cybershell years ago and always wanted to see/hear what happens in them so thank you
No problem at all, glad I could help! :)
I learned about these novels in fifth grade, and I spent YEARS trying to find them online because I wanted to read them.

I see why they're called virgin books
Nuh uh. The virgin Sonic the Comic vs. the chad Virgin Sonic book range, facts.
Why does the last book's premice sound like a plan Eggman would make in AOSTH or in a Sonic X one off epesode
Wouldn’t shock me if it were a rejected script from the former tbf!
6:42 I’m going to make this my desktop wallpaper XD
I also like the 2nd and 3rd books of these sonic books
Glad to hear, they’re my favourites in the range too!
SONIC MET THE ROMANS-
hell yeah
2:32 any relation to Shorty?
Nope, as far as I can tell it's pure coincidence haha. Both characters were created two years apart from one another after all :)
SONIC THE TOASTER-
0:14 what’s wrong with his eyes
He stretched his right one out for a laugh probably
oh no histerian
My friend said you missing a book, sonic vs Zonik
That’s one of the gamebooks iirc, which aren’t the same as the ones I discussed in the video. I’ll definitely cover those ones sometime though, they’re pretty interesting!
I’m actually on from England
Cinos is real??
Yep, unfortunately he wasn’t created in Dr. Eggman’s super secret underwater volcano lab in space though.
It sounds a lot like Russian trash books about TMNT and Batman
I need to look into those now lmao, may have to do a video discussing them and all
