    If you don't understand colorism, it's because you've never experienced it firsthand.
    Examples of colorism:
    You're cute for a dark skinned girl
    You can't count how many times you've seen a black man show more aggression towards a darker skinned woman, but their energy is softer towards everyone else.
    When you can't count how many times you've been passed over for a biracial, light skinned, or white girl.
    Close your eyes, think of names that end with "isha". 90% you're not picturing a lighter skinned or a non black woman.
    Last but not least, you hear men like Fresh and Fit say "We are not NIGHT RIDERS". And they back it by saying "F YOUR FEELINGS It's our preference".
    When a Hispanic woman has the blackcent, saying the N word 1000 times a day, and ready to fight, she's "spicy". When a chocolate sista is being her genuine self she's "ghetto".

      @@jeshurundaniel794 because even if you wanted to date someone at your school, you either weren’t the “preference” of the guy you liked sometimes. Or if you were with the different races of boys, sometimes these younger boys are afraid (for whatever reasons) to go after you. I’ve had some guys come back around to me later on post graduation saying that they were attracted to me, but were scared to come up to me or whatever micro aggressive bs that’s been painted about black girls (like we’d slap them or cuss them out). I know when I was younger, going to a predominantly white school, even though I wasn’t really attracted to that many guys in my school, I knew a very few of my black girlfriends had boyfriends whilst my white and Hispanic friends, majority of them already been through a handful relationships once we got into high school. And normally the “attractive” black guy that played football, sports, etc always happened to be “popular”; and although he might mingle with the black crowd, he was also mingling with the “popular” white crowd. A lot of the “popular” white girls (just like the black girls) would also be attracted to them and most often be the ones that end up dating the popular black boys. So it kinda in a sense made me not have high expectations from boys at my school unless they verbally came up and said how they felt about me. I hope this makes sense. 😊

I even remember one time she said she had turned down a role because she didn’t feel comfortable doing any sex/nude scenes in any acting role. I think part of why it took the industry so long to build Coco Jones up is because she wasn’t willing to do what all the other girls were doing. She didn’t want to be the hyper sexualized and overly nude artist, she wanted to create soulful R&B music, and she wanted to do it her own way.

    I wish bw would stop caring who bm date bc it’s never that serious. As a young dark skinned girl w a white fiancé, I say expand your options (if you want to). You don’t have to but it’s especially crucial for those of us in the black community that are never chosen. You don’t have to want non bm, but at least always keep your options open because bm do it and it erases a lot of bitterness surrounding them dating non bw.
    It’s 2023 not 1943, no one is stopping you from dating/marrying who you want. Don’t let the shaming tactics of “you just want a white guy to have a baby with good hair” or “what about the black race, we’ll be wiped out if you date a non bm, do you hate bm?” These are all just tactics to keep you locked down to a group of men that left us decades ago. And there are very attractive, good men of all races you’re not gonna tell me you haven’t seen at least one or a few that weren’t black. It’s not our job to keep the black race going because it takes two, and bm collectively gave up, so let the black love thing go💀

Of course when I got into my later 20s/ early 30s it changed bc it’s better to be in your own space but for some reason the 22/23 year olds of today are so obsessed with sections and I’m not sure where that money is coming from. 🤔🤔🤔

    I dont think chioma understands when it comes to songs. The songs that praise light skin are very hyper sexual and they are not meant to uplift light skin women in a good way. When i listen to songs praising dark skin those songs sound better with better lyrics and they are more sensual. Not to mention most of those songs praising light skin women are by dusty rappers who really dont care.

    • @Kimmy_95
      @Kimmy_95 Год назад +1

      Despite the type of representation you mentioned LS women get, overall it does not negatively affect the image in terms of beauty/desirability. Light skin is still VERY HIGH on the 'beauty hierarchy', & it will remain that way for a longgggg time. The praise DSBW are getting MAINSTREAM is still VERY LIMITED & the damage has been done FAR TOO LONG. Masculine, angry, loud, ghetto with weaves & still stereotypes attached with DS BW who are still placed @ the bottom..... Most of those rappers u mentioned prefer lighter & skinned women (preference) & SOMETIMES, some have a fetish due to SELF HATE while PUBLICLY ridiculing their DS counterparts. Hence the type of representation. Lighter is more attractive = wealth etc (according to MSM), hence also having an impact as to how the average man will perceive certain women.

    • @alanamaee11
      @alanamaee11 Год назад +14

      No I’m not sure if you understand because the idea of uplifting brown/ dark skin in music is because for decades that tone has been disrespected, overlooked, robbed, blackballed, shadow banned and pushed to the back burner… light skin has ALWAYS been pushed to the forefront and even if the “dusty rappers” are sexualizing light skin women, it’s still a positive praise compared to the sh*t they say about darker tones… light skin has always been praised and marketed.
