She had caucasian looks which are different from others so that made her Exotic among the Indian masses plus the white skin obsession. So she was at the right place at the right time .

katrina's the biggest female superstar of her generation in india lol. there hasn't been any new actress who has managed to surpass her yet in terms of mass following. she's just not as popular in the big cities like mumbai as deepika or alia because she hasn't made a lot of movies that appeal to urban india so urban indians discredit her - but when it comes to the rest of india (which is the majority of india), she is the biggest star there is. basically like hema malini in terms of popularity with the masses. she's also better at the heroine roles (elevates the thankless ones) than the other girls in her generation.
