Im surprised at this kit. I feel a lot is missing and the price doesn't reflect that at all. They went hard with the compass but then went halfway with fire, water and food gathering. A waterbag but no tablets, a ferro rod and a magnifying lense but no matches, and brass wire but no fishing kit. The emergency blanket is a cheap one off amazon that you can buy in bulk for very cheap. Im surprised at their oversight on such basics. And a small square of aluminium foil wouldn't hurt it either. Good on you for adding a small medical element too. Great video brother
I agree. No fishing kit, no light. Would’ve been nice to have a snap and hook and loop on the flap instead of only hook and loop. If you were to actually wear this on your belt in the outdoors that velcro is going to get dirty, wet, etc. and not work, thus possibly losing your emergency blanket or anything else you might add in the front compartment.
Bought one if these and combined it with a SOL basic kit to improve the shelter. I really enjoy your videis as they give me ideas to improve my own kits and think of new ways to up my skills.
FWIW that might be the best value of any of the ESEE kits. The kevlar cordage is excellent, the compass is a great one for the price, the mirror & tinder are great and that's the biggest firesteel I've seen in a small kit. The wire looks solid and the Whirl-Pak bags work very well. Nice to have the duct tape for sure. A fresnel (pronounced fruh-NELL') is very handy to have. The Gerber pry-bar looks fairly useless and is almost certainly Chinese. Personally I would strike the firesteel with the saw but I wouldn't open the saw, just use the part where the thumb notch goes. I feel like you're less likely to break the skinny hacksaw blade that way. You should do a video where you head out to the woods and put some of these mini-kits to the test.
Instead of a victorinox I would of added a leatherman squirt or gerber dime, since it has the brass wire I think the pliers would help with repairs or snares
Sold. I have to go get one. I like small kits like that. Good review. I was thinking it needs a small booboo kit and small bic. The only thing you added, that I probably would not, is the book of matches.
Awesome little kit! The SAK Signature Lite would be a perfect addition to incorporate a lighting element, has a great little led light on it with a pen, knife, scissors, and file. Love all your reviews!
I don't know if the Kevlar cordage fits the needle otherwise you need something that does in order to keep it from being useless. Dental floss would work.
I know that the famous TV survival guru says a canvas needle is a survival requirement but I'm in my early 50's and I've never once used a needle in the field nor ever did an emergency sewing job. But I could see how the needle could be nice for splinters at least. And just out of habit most of my kits still have that useless needle and thread! ;-)
Great kit and review! The only change i would make its to toss the cheap Chinese made Mylar blanket and replace it with a USA made heat sheet. Much, much better quality, plus, orange/silver/quiet!!
THANK YOU !!!! it annoys me to no end to see fishing gear in these tiny survival kits, These things should help you get by for a SHORT perod of time until rescue. whos got time in an emergency situation to go fishing?
He was referring to the pouch being high quality and being made in the USA, not the entire kit. The compass he spoke so highly about and took up 25% of the cost was made in Finland.
The tedious argument that items manufactured in the USA are always high quality and those from China are garbage is utterly false! The company ordering the items determines the quality, its that simple! No one says that Chinese made smartphones, tablets, laptops and computers are garbage, its just everything else! Garbage items existed long before China exported to the West.
I would change the Mylar blanket with a safety orange Mylar blanket for signaling also. Check out Blackscout survival kits. They have some of the best and all my survival kits are put out by them. Have everything u need nothing u don’t. 👍🍻
love your reviews mate top notch ... but a fishing kit is very important, if your like me and live in the uk, rivers are everywhere, for me that's missing a vital component
you should check out the Swiss army bantam alox its alot better then the small knives and its thinner and comes with one knife and multi tool can opener bottle opener screw driver and wire stripper all in one
That is a cool survive kit know I always wondered about a crate that wold be on small air planes going threw the mountains that wold have a 22 rifle and survival stuff in it like MRE's and camp stuff do you know how much they are or if you can even get one?
The pry bar seems like a waste of space to me. They could’ve added a second source of fire, purification tablets, light, fishing kit, etc. If you really needed to fish, you could bend the needle into a fish hook and use the trip line as fishing line.
Not a good kit for the money. The ESEE pocket tin was a better value for the money. I'd take out the razor and prybar and try to wedge a Gerber Dime in there. Leave out the lighter if you needed to. I like the addition of the water purification tabs and matches. I'd throw a few more mini glow sticks in there also.
I always see a kit something missing or something added extra or something different. What compact kit is complete? I keep getting great ideas from different channels as I try to build my own kit.
Well said. A compact kit is always a compromise and you need to make smart choices to balance utility with bulk. I tend to carry larger kits built around day packs but I live in the mountains of Montana where the weather is a bit more severe, it can freeze at night even in July and August and we have as many Grizzlies per square mile as most of Alaska.
The lack of water purifying tablets is staggering IMHO. No fishing kit but includes snare wire which seems a misplaced priority to me. A SOL combined sewing & fishing kit in its little tube would be a better option. They include a sail needle or getting close to it but no cordage or thread. I don't see the point of the small paper pad unless it's to write your will and last letter to your loved ones?
I dunno, I think it's always nice to customize a kit to your own area and based on your own skills. Water treatment should be in there but tablets are cheap and the clock is running once they build the kit (the tablets have a shelf life that's only a couple years) so I don't mind adding them. Plus if you're careful you can pasteurize water in the bag near a fire.
Something that I really need to know is what is the smallest and cheapest survival kit that really works well and you may not need anything else for being out for about 3-4 days? Btw thanks for your nice videos I love them
Apropos of nothing their naming convention is totally bass ackwards! The largest kit isn't "advanced" as having more gear requires less skill. In reality a tiny kit is actually the more "advanced" one as it requires a lot of skill to successfully utilize to stay alive. ;-) Good video BTW.
This is a great great presentation and a great kid. But that background music irritated me so much that I had to stop for all and take a rest from it and then go back and watch the rest of the video. Please remove that terrible music in the background when you get these videos so we can hear what you’re saying and Not get distracted
I wish ESEE would make a SAK type pocket knife that has at least a 3 inch locking blade, 3 inch saw, can opener, and awl for these types of kits. They are a knife company so a knife tool should be the center focus of any product they produce.
I think that ESEE intended the user to kitbash the kit at least by adding water purification tablets. The items they added were all non-expiring. I have to disagree on your stance about food. Just one day without eating already makes the person very weak. If I ever buy this kit myself I will kitbash a fishing kit on it but I am in a region which is great for fishing so I would be insane not to do so.
Junk, everybody gets so excited when they have a tool with a bottle opener, unless you get lost in a high dollar beer store or fall down and wake up in the 60s what are you going to do with a bottle opener,I cary a p38 can opener on my keys, much more usefull
I typically use the spine of my knife for opening bottles. I think bottle openers and redundant and stupid. I still have tools with a bottle opener but I didn't buy them for the bottle opener. They're usually little pry tools and compact knives.
That compass is a cheap $4 compass... It's not a lensatic compass even... The mylar blanket most likely fails when compared to an SOL mylar blanket....the fresnal lens (pretty cheap), the Rite in the Rain runs about $4... I'm not impressed.
• the Swiss Army knife is unnecessary since it already had the 2 derma-safe folders • the Bic lighter is also unnecessary since there's already: matches, ferro rod, candle AND the Fresno lense Definitely needs a small flashlight
Just remembered Rulon Gardner's cold experience, please check it yourself if you like. But after having dropped into freezing water, at night, alone in the snow, that would leave him with only that ferro rod. Bet he'd give one of his toes for a Bic lighter.
Chinese-made is not a guarantee of crap, just as American-made is not a guarantee of quality. This "American-made", well American-packed, survival kit is pretty sub-par.
This is the third video of yours I’ve watched and it’ll be the last I love the topic and I love your info and video style, I just hate the music I can barely understand you over the obnoxious music. Hopefully you stop doing this
I love how you always add the SD7 Swiss Army Knife to majority of your kits! A very valuable tool for sure!!
Rob Babcock all in good time! :)
Your getting a sub for that stupendously calming music background
Thanks!
Great review! I liked your additions - I would add a squeeze light at a minimum, but nice upgrades!
Esee knives are a pretty good value, but I just don't see that same value here to be honest. Great video!
Love the Zeppelin and ABB 🤟🏼
Add a pincel sharpener and the pencil becomes fire tender. The sharpener can also be used on twigs and such
Thanks
You could always sharpen the pencil with a sharp knife, of course.
@@mathswithgarry7104 it’s not about a sharp pencil, it’s about the SHAVINGS for fire starting, shaving with a lot less energy thst using a knife
Nice kit, I was amazed you managed to fit the extra items inside.
Thanks!
A pry bar? WTF, another item added to pad out a kit, and I’d love you to try to use it with the ferro rod!
I love the mini med kit!!
Awesome little kit! The SAK Signature Lite would be a perfect addition to incorporate a lighting element, has a great little led light on it with a pen, knife, scissors, and file. Love all your reviews!

Nice review, but a bit spendy for me.
Great kit and review! The only change i would make its to toss the cheap Chinese made Mylar blanket and replace it with a USA made heat sheet. Much, much better quality, plus, orange/silver/quiet!!
Thanks!
$127 now!
Not a bad kit!! I'd hate to think how much money I have wrapped up in my maxpidition fatty loaded up lol. Great video!!
Thanks!
THANK YOU !!!! it annoys me to no end to see fishing gear in these tiny survival kits, These things should help you get by for a SHORT perod of time until rescue. whos got time in an emergency situation to go fishing?
They gave you a water bag with no way to purify it
if it gets warm enogh the sun is a thing takes a while but does work
80 dollars it's too expensive for this kit. And pardon me but made in the USA don't mean quality too.
Yep you can make your own better kit for bout 100 bucks
Sadly that is true. A lot of companies in the US are just as bad when it comes to quantity instead of quality
He was referring to the pouch being high quality and being made in the USA, not the entire kit. The compass he spoke so highly about and took up 25% of the cost was made in Finland.
Made in the USA isn’t always about quality. It’s about keeping your money inside the US and supporting American business
Needs water tablets. No way to disinfect the water.
I added them later on in the video
I would change the Mylar blanket with a safety orange Mylar blanket for signaling also. Check out Blackscout survival kits. They have some of the best and all my survival kits are put out by them. Have everything u need nothing u don’t. 👍🍻

Did I miss water purification tablets?

You never mention in any of your videos that the Fresnel lens is a lifesaver if you have lost your glasses.
I always see a kit something missing or something added extra or something different. What compact kit is complete? I keep getting great ideas from different channels as I try to build my own kit.

Cool kit👍
A more accurate assessment would be… A $20 bag full of junk selling for 80 bucks. What a deal!
I wanted to say thank you for doing all these kids gives me ideas please keep doing them it’s very helpful God bless you and your family
❤
aint them lil aquatabs is for 750 ml?
Klasse !

There's a spool of 75ft 80lb test Kevlar line in the kit .
For $80 you should not have to ad any of that stuff!!
I dunno, I think it's always nice to customize a kit to your own area and based on your own skills. Also, that ferror rod is PITIFUL--- needs upgraded badly
👍
I think It is missing cordage.... But good job
I have to say, that knife looks as clean as mine!
Cool video. I could pack so much more in that bag but I've been making kits since I was a kid. Speaking of the bag can I buy just the bag?
Something that I really need to know is what is the smallest and cheapest survival kit that really works well and you may not need anything else for being out for about 3-4 days? Btw thanks for your nice videos I love them
Mahyar KarimzadeMahyar That all depends. How small are you thinking and what sort of climate will you be in?
I wish the pouch was MOLLE
Price ?
I think a whistle sounding ‘good’ probably isn’t as useful as one that is LOUD.

You need to sell your mini med packs.
There’s probably some law against me selling medicine.
made my own
Water purification tablets

Translated into South African Rands $80 equals R1600. Not.
Tripwire/cordage
And the firsth thing he pulls out is marked made in China hehe
What's not made in China these days lol
Subscribed. Can you please do the esse mess kit please
Yeah, I will be doing it soon.

Needs water purification.
80 Bucks and no water disinfection tablets? Pass.
Made in USA does not mean quality. This kit is a ripoff. Are you being paid (directly or indirectly) to promote this company's products?
That compass is a cheap $4 compass... It's not a lensatic compass even... The mylar blanket most likely fails when compared to an SOL mylar blanket....the fresnal lens (pretty cheap), the Rite in the Rain runs about $4... I'm not impressed.
I agree, a bunch of overpriced junk.

😂 $50 but not $80 for an upscale made in China-kit.

3:26 made in china 😂 not crappy Chinese made
Esse junk not worth $80
Waste of money
Complete rip off.
Crap for the price.. and that saw and knife is a joke and will brake
Need some aluminum foil to boil water in
