Alaska and Hawaiian are the perfect couple.
Seems like people forget that Alaska ranks at the top of the airline lists every year. It consistently is one of the most profitable airlines in the US. Alaska also has better legroom and milage plan membership too. This will be a boost of Hawaiian to finally have domestic connectivity and allows Alaska to finally expand internationally into Europe, Asia, and Australia.
We can only hope the customer service of both airlines does not go downhill...
“…taken Hawaiian Airlines under its wing,” no pun intended, ha. 😉✌️
they both got faces on their tails!
And one of it is a Mahu
Back when I was a kid, I thought Hawaiian was another Horizon.
Hawaiian is going to replace their A330-200 fleet with a fleet of 787-9's. Given the range of the 787-9, the possibility of a northern winter route from Europe direct to Hawaii from November to March could actually happen, given that wealthy Europeans would like to try a new winter destination (Europe to Hawaii now requires a stopover either in Vancouver, BC or the western USA). That service would be a very niche service, to say the least.
Alternately Hawaiian could also offer service through Seattle to Europe but passengers would need to clear customs in Seattle which might make it less attractive.
They should do a direct from Honolulu to London Heathrow
@@electro_sykes I think more like London Gatwick to Honolulu, since it is geared specifically for vacation travelers.
@Sacto1654 How much demand exists for that though?
The biggest changes will be at airports where they both operate, like LAX. They will eventually need to combine their airport operations inside one terminal. Ticketing counters, gates, baggage claims and combined clubs in one area.
Having flown a number of Alaskan segments recently and having done a international with Hawaiian I really see this almost a perfect match. From my experience both care about their passengers, both want to have an exceptional product and as the network map shows they will compliment each other with little route duplication. I am guessing we will see another OneWorld member airline too all be it by name only once they become one.
Wishing they’d switch to Star Alliance
@@stevesmoneypit6137 very happy with them being OneWorld, better for non-regular international travelers in Australia not that has any baring on their decision! Would love to see Virgin Australia join star alliance to really challenge Qantas by offering a choice in alliance
Airlines named after the last 2 non-continental states in America coming together is pretty cool.
With this now closed, Alaska Airlines Group is no longer “Proudly All Boeing”.
I mean considering they have a large fleet of Embraer e175 and used to have a320s from the virgin merger, they haven’t been all Boeing for a while.
Again. They were the same when they acquired Virgin America
@@ValleyThrills yes but only to honor the lease agreement that Virgin America had for those Airbus planes. Once they lease ended, they removed them from their fleet and sold them to American Airlines. Only question this time is will Alaska Airlines Group order any future Airbus aircraft (for Hawaiian obviously) or stick to only Boeing?
Alaska also has a subsidiary called Horizon Air. It's never really been 'All Boeing '.
@@okay_then3337The 175 are not part of the Alaska group. They fly under the Alaska colors !!
I have Pualani gold for next year. Alaska better honor it.
My understanding is that you can also use your Hawaiian miles to qualify for Gold status on Alaska so you'll actually get an additional perk.
@@solracer66 Yeah I think that's the case, I earn Gold after my flights with Hawaiian in October, really hoping what you said is the case, because I literally did a milage run to Maui, I spent 8 hours there, just to earn Gold.
Yeah you are getting a huge upgrade. I’m an MVP Gold so we will both be Pualani Gold and Vice versa! Wooooo!!!
Spoiler Alert: They won’t.
Wish Hawaiian would fly to Toronto they fly over it every day from Boston to the islands
This is good Hawaiian was so close to going under, countless jobs saved especially for the pilot union
in the offing. - I loved that.
I hope Hawaiian will as a result join the Oneworld Alliance.
That’s a maybe with Fiji airways joining the alliance
@@Yappadappadooo it has it pros being able to book also through the Alliance website. Did Fiji became a full member already? I heard they have a special status but not fully integrated in Oneworld.
Hawaiian airlines is just a superficial brand of Alaska. Once the IT systems are integrated, there will be no difference in bookings. There is no longer such a thing as Hawaiian airlines as an independent entity.
The man and woman on the airplane tails finally got married
Wow, I wonder what B6 & NK will do now. Congrats to AS & HA. Pualani & Chester have at last "united"(!).
Thanks Dj!!
The OCONUS airline group!
The combined parent company should be named "Map Inset Airlines" or "Uncontinental Airlines" 😄
Uncontinental would probably piss off United lol. They weren't happy about the merger anyways since it means actual competition in Hawaii.
@@ge0graphaly Indeed, Guam-Honolulu would be a great addition for Hawaiian: It's crazy how United has a monopoly in Guam and charges accordingly😮
I have a family member who is pretty high up at Hawaiian as a captain. I asked him what he thinks about everything, and he told me that he thinks the merger is very good for Hawaiian.
My thoughts over the last couple of months has been twofold:
1. Alaska is going to remain the North American brand we know it to be today ; focused on the NA continent
2. Hawaiian is now going to be the Pacific and International brand for the new merged airline.
Why?
Because Hawaiian has all the experience with widebodies from aircraft to in flight service, while alaskan has been focused on the main NA continent. Both Alaska CEO Ben Minicucci and former Hawaiian CEO Peter Ingram said that the brands would remain separate. So I think this is the most logical way to use both brands to benefit the combined company: by focusing on different types of travel where they already have expertise.
PS... I also think there is a potential opportunity for HNL to become a hub for expansion as the combined company now has both the passenger network and ability to compete with the asian market... Kind of like Dubai is between Asia and Europe. But that's just my thoughts.
What I would’ve liked to have seen back in the late 80s early 90s was a merger between Eastern Airlines and TWA. The east-west network and JFK international hub of TWA was complimentary to Eastern's north-south network…including the NY-BOS-DC shuttle as well as Eastern’s service to Mexico, the Caribbean,Central and South America. Very little overlap existed. I believe that would’ve been been a very successful airline.
The merged company should be named "99 Airlines".
Still should have went with the A330-800 to replace the -200s and to replace the 717s maybe they will buy E175-E1s that are still being produced or E190-E2s.
Is it kind of like Air France - KLM?
In practice, yes, but otherwise no. Hawaiian is still staying as a brand, but it is now owned by Alaska and operating under their AOC, while Air France-KLM was a merger of equals (ish)
Well airfrance-klm I think is two companies joined, not one bought the other
Now you have another option to fly here from down under.
I was gonna fly an A330 on Hawaiian A few months from now but it's gonna be mixed...
The seniority list good lord. Unless they just keep them completely two brands
Now they’ll be known as NonContinental Airlines
bye bye baby bus
Hawaiian Airlines is like Horizon Air pre-2011 when Alaska and Horizon had their own liveries.
Horizon has its own operating certificate. Hawaiian won't anymore after 12-18 months; the entire airline will be Alaska Airlines, but some of the planes will feature Hawaiian's livery and branding, that's all.
@@sosaix3545 It could be Hawaiian’s livery in Alaska’s style. They could redesign Hawaiian’s livery that way.
@@MDE128 no, that's not what's planned. The plan is for both liveries to remain unchanged.
@@sosaix3545 I see. They do have similar liveries.
Curious to know if Hawaiian plan on getting the A321XLR.
Nope.
No there are not getting the a321xlr
How with the merger change that AK/HI routes? 🤔
This is good news for Hawaii and west coast USA.
@@iceman9678 this surely upsets United Airlines
JetBlue and Spirit should sue the DOJ and DOT for blocking their merger.
You clearly didn't research why the DOJ denied the merger of those two carriers and it shows.
@@erauprcwa I did do my research, and what I’m saying is that their was no evidence that JetBlue absorbing spirit would’ve caused extreme disruption in the market, them not merging, has actually led to multiple layoffs and furlough at spirit because the company does not have enough capital to retain their employees so clearly you didn’t do your research.
@@jordanalexander4331 A week or two before the DOJ decision, Jetblue stated in court documents that they'd have to raise prices and cut key routes of the Spirit network. Two things the DOJ stated at the beginning that they were trying to protect of the consumer.
A company's bad business structure is NOT the responsibility of the DOJ, that's the responsibility of the company managers. If the airline's have to furlough or go bankrupt, that's not the fault of the federal government.
also bye bye b717s
Another bad move fir c9nsummers with much higher fares esp out of onw and infamius bad cust service like waiting days to get a critical call back. Yeah that ha cust service will be down graded biggly so as mvt can buy back more stock jusy like they did with va merger.
No this is good. It gives AA, UA & DL a run for their money. United has been worrying about it ever since it was first announced, goes to show you.
One has poor maintenance the other has racist employees 👎👎👎💩👎👎👎

I just wanna say I now hate youtube ads ads ads and you can't just opt to skip all of 'em grrrr
Free youtube. Or pay if you want
Assuming that Hawaiin will join the Oneworld alliance?
@@valluvanthillairajah they’re part of Alaska Airlines Group now so Hawaiian is part of OneWorld as a subsidiary.
Is this merger essentially the same thing as the Air France and KLM merger? One airline group with 2 separate brands?
Here we go again, higher tickets less competition 🤭
Soooooo, What about the 717s
Alawaiian airlines.or 4950.
