Hey all, This is an interesting disappearance that took place in Idaho back in 2013. It's a shorter one as there aren't too many details floating around, though enough to piece together a potentially weird/unusual case. It was also a good fit for this week as I wouldn't have been able to get out a longer one before the end of the month, though I'll try to pick out something longer 30-40 minutes for the next one. Have a good weekend everyone and be safe.
I think ppl find it easy to judge behind a keyboard but when you get off trail in a forest or park like this, it becomes very easy to get lost when every rock or tree looks alike. Easy to get hurt and unable to walk too.
The only thing I can think is that perhaps one of them needed to go to the toilet urgently, and went off trail looking for an area where they wouldn't be visible. Then, perhaps once the heavy rain set in, they weren't able to find their way back, so their friend went to look for them and also got lost. After which they tried to find their way back by listening out for the traffic. But reasons why someone might leave the trail might be modesty in using the bathroom (women don't usually just go in front of other people like men do), or perhaps hearing an animal in distress. The fact they left the dogs in the car suggests to me that they didn't intend to go very far at all, and perhaps the second person only left them in desperation to try and help their friend. Leaving the phones in the car, because they weren't intending to go anywhere really, and didn't want to risk dropping their phones into those rocks.
I find that older people put less value on their phones. I always check that I have my phone before I leave a place and it’s practically glued to my back pocket. I’ve had a cell phone since I was 10 years old so it’s just a routine to make sure I always have it. My mom who is in her 60s consistently leaves her phone when leaving the house and even when she does take it with her she leaves it im her car a lot. Jo and Amelia might have just simply forgotten and realized they made a terrible mistake when they needed help.
Absolutely. I'm 46, and I don't even have a working cell phone. We grew up without the concept of people knowing where we were at all times, and a lot of us would probably have not even told anyone where we were going.
Maybe there should be a communication center where all visitors get assigned gps trackers and communication relays put up around the parks to find them, idk
Given their age and Amelia's limp, I strongly doubt they left the trail by choice. They had no intention of being out there long, and the trail is easily visible, even from a short distance off it. They had to have moved a good distance from it to not be able to find it again, which would've been difficult for them to do. It's weird that they kept moving in the opposite direction to the carpark. The trail is fairly flat, so unless the whole area is flat, you would know you were moving away from the trail as soon as you hit an elevation change.
Can't imaging leaving my smartphone in a car going for a hike even a short one, even IF I think there would be no signal, I would still take my phone with me for a number of reasons. It does not make any sense why both of them left their phones in the car. One might have simly forgotten, but not both of them.
If they look and both have no service they may have left them for that reason. They probably didnt think a pic would be needed so why bring it out? Not taking the cell phones isnt that suspicious to me
@@jamesknapp64It was suspicious to their families, tho. To them it seemed odd, and out of the ordinary, that they wouldn't have taken them. Which makes it weirder.
I’m thinking either they wanted to disconnect and take nature in without any technology or they just forgot. Sometimes older people don’t check to see if they have their phones when they leave a place because cell phones are relatively new.
Women going out alone with no means of communication is truly inexplicable. Even having a phone in your hand can deter a would-be human predator. Phones also have lights, can record video, etc. It's like being without a compass a hundred years ago - you just shouldn't do it.
Either some kind of animal, exposure or something strange, there are a lot of weird stories that come out of the empty places of the western US after all.
I wonder whether they felt threatened by a human being who assumed they were a couple. Poor Jo and Amelia. I wonder if they hit the end of the trail and then just kept going...? But it seems unlikely that the trail end wouldn't be obvious, if the trail itself is so well-marked
I have a feeling it was something exactly like this. Someone , or a few people following them, intimidating them, perhaps, causing both ladies to try and get away from them.
Missing Enigma went to the location and it's very populated with hikers of all kinds. Very difficult to get lost, they weren't chased off, they just got lost and had no supplies.
Great story, i hadnt heard about this...I have a tiny storytelling channel and just wanted to say channels like yours give me the determination to keep trying, thank you.
Imma tell y'all something, it's horrible but true. Idahoans don't care if outta towners go missing. I remember being there for the search, I live in Arco. Everyone was complaining and no one really cared. Yes there were professional cave divers but even they didn't go all the way inside the caves. We all still catch it strange with the second lady though, her story about getting lost was a mess, we all say it was foul play. Nothing they did will ever make any sense. There is stories of a "Animal" in that region but no ones seen it. Do know for future reference, don't get lost in Idaho, we just really won't look for you.
I think it's likely that they got caught off-guard by sudden heavy rain towards the end of the trail. Maybe because the rain reduced visibility they managed to wander off the trail? Then were unable to find their way back, and started walking towards the highway. It seems the bad weather, lack of water, and the exhaustion from walking the rocky terrain, must have overwhelmed them and they died. Though the other theories seem reasonable too. They could have over-estimated their ability, and willingly decided to leave the trail. They could've got spooked by a mountain lion or similar. Very sad either way.
I would like to know why they were found 1.5 miles from each other. I cannot imagine that they would have intentionally decided to walk in different directions or take different paths into the unknown.. I think something sinister happened here to these two nice ladies. But whatever that was... is unclear to everyone except for them. And they are not here to explain it!
Possibly because Amelia had gotten hurt and Jo continued on towards the sound of the road noise... as flat as it seem to be in the footage we saw, the sound may have carried farther, and the road may have seemed closer than it was
@@sandrafaith Yeah I thought perhaps one of the ladies had gotten injured and the other was trying to get to the main road and seek help. That's a possibility.

If you don't believe me then go there and do it go a head pick one up and put it in your pocket! You will see what happens 😝!
I feel that, due to their empathetic personalities, they were distracted by something that may have needed help. Perhaps a stray dog, a sound of a wounded animal, or even a voice. That would have been enough to veer off the clear trail if you thought the sounds were not far away. If a stray dog, I could see them going quite far to get it. Lava fields are dangerous. You may as well decide to walk on glass. Stay ON the path of any park, you aren’t missing out on anything fun by staying on it.
I think they started to walk the trail and at some point, stopped for whatever reason. After being distracted, they got confused about which direction they were going. They obviously chose the wrong direction. By the time they realized their mistake, they had probably ran out of daylight. The rest is history. Just a thought…..
I have a feeling someone forced them to get off the trail.. for what reason? Who knows.. Maybe they were kidnapped by a madman? Great video, Thank You 🩷

My Dentist was talking to me about solo hiking not too long ago. He told me he went off trail, and stopped himself and said, “I know you’re not supposed to do that, but it was just a couple of feet.” I didn’t have the heart to tell him I’ve spent six hours off trail before. I just always know my cardinal directions somehow. Somebody like my dentist may very well not. I have no idea why I always know where north is, it’s partially learned, but here in the Appellation mountains, I had to adjust for the terrain. Maybe it helps that I never really use the gps in the car? Not fully sure like I said.
Same here, somehow I can usually figure basic north and all. But it seems most people can't and so I also suppose basic directions is a learned thing. Gotten in a couple of big arguments with people on cardinal directions until I gave up and we thankfully ended up at the end of a road and couldn't go farther. There also seems to be the idea that "pick any direction to go" is a popular thing to do when lost instead of backtracking. People also don't seem to like maps. The highway sound may have made it seem that it was closer than backtracking east to look for the trail. Then the question becomes why did they go into somewhere in the first place where a few steps would tell you how bad a lava field can be?
@@alka9613 so my extended family lived in the mid-west. Two miles of flat corn fields in every direction. The roads there are laid out perfectly straight. My uncle Don was asking me one day what direction we were facing on the porch. So I showed him, “the sun rises over here, and it always stays southerly, and then it sets over here.” Like words out of somebody else’s mouth.
Since Jo was found further away, she may have experienced a health issue, and her friend being less experienced may have panicked, not thinking clearly can get one disoriented. So can shock.
An employer who actually cares about their emplee's, enough that they immediatley ring someone to do a welfare check on them when they don't turn up to work once. Are we sure this story is true...i'm joking, i know its a true story, and well done to the employer for taking note and getting straight into action. I've heard so many of these stories where everybody just assumes the person who never misses work 'just went on holiday' and it takes days/weeks for them to finally do a welfare check on them, that it is genuinely shocking to hear when someone (and her employer of all people) actually notices something isn't right and calls for help.
The only logical explanation is that they went for a short hike - hence they didn't take the cell phones with them - and while on the trail they encountered a wild animal and they had to change course. Maybe running away fron the path one of them fell down and got injured. The second one went to get help but not from the trail back because she was afraid of the animal. She chose to go towards the highway. Seemed possible and logical then but she got tired and disoriented and she ended up exhausted and lost.
@@OroborusFMA These two women were survivalists and volunteered together in charity mission on Africa. I am sure they long knew what is the best course of action when meeting a wild animal. Instead, I think they overestimated their resistance to dehydration and exposure. Their hike lasted longer than expected and their mind started to play trick, which lead them astray. When you get older, you don't feel the thirst sensation as well and are then easily betrayed by dehydration. Even for a two mile trek, it's important to never forget water. It's also not a bad idea to have sunglasses at the ready for when walking with the sun in the eyes, and wear something upon the head to help sweat from not evaporating too fast.
Did these 2 ladies drive separately? Remember, Amelia had purchased a camper van to go adventuring in, but it was a pick up truck that the dogs were in at the parking lot of Tree Molds Trail. Wouldn't this mean that Amelia's camper van would have been there somewhere too?
Thanks Adam, I don’t think I had ever heard or seen this case covered!! Excellent video as always and I’m looking forward to the next longer video you mentioned!! You da man bro!! 💯 🫡
The host of the missing enigma went there to give viewers a feel for what the place looks like as you hike there as he explained what happened to the women. Doesn't seem like you can get lost as long as you remain on the trail. I don't think their age had anything to do with their disappearance. They both seemed like capable women. Another strange case of missing people found dead while hiking in a state or national park. Why were they not on the trail? Why indeed. I don't think it was a conscious choice. I wonder if you would consider a video on Portlock Alaska?
Thank you Adam 🙏 This one makes no sense at all ... a 2 mile return walk 🚶♂️ around such an area would merit taking at least some water 💧 especially as the women were experienced explorers. I also think its suspicious that they left two dogs in the van 🐕 🐕 that seems out of character 🤔 I'd not heard of this situation previously so thank you for sharing the details. Peace 🙏✨️
I wonder did they run into trouble and one of the women went to try to find help but ended up getting lost and succumbing to the elements and the other woman wasn't able to recieve help and she also perished I'm just trying to think of a scenario about why their bodies were found that far apart from each other and if someone murdered them why would they have moved one of their bodies over a mile away from the location while leaving the other in the same spot that certainly makes very little sense to me at all
They were clearly headed to the highway. Why? Why didn't they just turn around and go back? Maybe one of them got sick or injured and they thought it would be closer to get to the highway from the end of the trail. They possibly thought the highway was closer than it was.
Couple things: *1.* You sound like the robot love child of Billy Boyd & Stephen Hawkins 😂 *2.* I live near Craters of the Moon. This disappearance was *not* mysterious to us locals in any way. You can get lost and vanish from the face of the Earth 100ft from the trail. *3.* It's pronounced */Boy•see/*
😅I think these ladies were forced out of the truck at gunpoint, or some threat, or for some "emergency." Lured in some way. Idk.... nothing here makes sense. As a 35 year veteran of the medical profession, I guarantee a seasoned Dr. would not run to the scene of an accident off a trail into such dangerous terrain, she'd run back to the vehicle and call for help. Nor would they take a 2 mile round trip hike without a cell phone. They'd at the very least take pictures! How very sad.
Been there. Cool place. It is easily possible that they could have fallen through a weak point into a lava tube and gotten stick. Or killed outright. The lava is sharp.
I have heard of people hearing something in the distance, something in distress. Maybe they went off the trail to help. And then became lost or injured themselves.
I think I recall that when I heard this story elsewhere, one of the women planned on going off-trail because some different or special kind of tree mold was only seen off-trail. Or maybe that she'd heard about that being the case, so it was assumed that's what she did. Something like that anyway.
I think these were just two women grossly overestimated their abilities. Without considering their current age. As sad as it is, they put themselves in a terrible situation.
I don't think it was deliberate on their part. They would've realised that they'd made a stupid mistake but it would have been too late by then. I don't think they premeditated stuffing up like that.
They could have easily left the trail because of ones need to relieve themselves then lost their bearings and were unable to relocate the trail then fell victim to the elements and circumstances.
If we don't make it alive, it's a hell of a good day to die All our light that shines strong only lasts for so long And it's ashes to ashes again, should we even try to pretend? All our light that shines strong only lasts for so long
No one had the sense to let their dogs search for them!! If that was me id rather have my dog look for me rather than incompetent police. If their out there the dogs would find them! Lets see how many more mistakes are made. Too many incompetent people are doing jobs they should never be doing, especially if they got that job because of the equal opportunity laws now in place!!
Idaho is a very conservative state and I know from experience that if you are not white or might be seen as gay or mistake for gay you are not welcomed there to the point where someone will harm you. I think authorities need to investigate it from this point of view. If you are not white or are gay I would strongly suggest you think twice before going to Idaho.
Your cadence and pitch is so grating to listen to. It sounds like you record narration in chunks of 3-4 words the way your pitch of your voice crests multiple times in one sentence. Please take a speech class

Ageism in the thumbnail. The illustrations show two young, slim women with long flowing hair. The two real women in this tragedy were 40 and 50 years _older_ heavy set, out of shape, one limping with super short hair.
Sounds very much like a suicide to me. No provisions, no cell phones, no warm clothing or even a small tent for shelter. Dogs « taken care of » kind of. Those ladies had more than a friendship and were not prepared to face old age which is very often more treacherous than any of the trails in the US.

Maybe running away fron the path one of them fell down and got injured. The second one went to get help but not from the trail back because she was afraid of the animal. She chose to go towards the highway. Seemed possible and logical then but she got tired and disoriented and she ended up exhausted and lost.
Don't buy it. If you see an animal you wait for it to move away. You don't go running off into a lava field.

These two women were survivalists and volunteered together in charity mission on Africa.
Interesting how both these women look so similar to each other
This is actually quite normal with gay couples.
I agree they look very similar

Did these 2 ladies drive separately? Remember, Amelia had purchased a camper van to go adventuring in, but it was a pick up truck that the dogs were in at the parking lot of Tree Molds Trail. Wouldn't this mean that Amelia's camper van would have been there somewhere too?
Thanks Adam, I don’t think I had ever heard or seen this case covered!! Excellent video as always and I’m looking forward to the next longer video you mentioned!! You da man bro!! 💯

If the first two pictures were there actual current age . They look great for their age.
Thank you!
Just discovered your channel. Really liking your content 👍
Welcome aboard! and thank you
Great story, as usual. 😘 Missing Void.
Thank you Adam 🙏
This one makes no sense at all ... a 2 mile return walk 🚶♂️ around such an area would merit taking at least some water 💧 especially as the women were experienced explorers. I also think its suspicious that they left two dogs in the van 🐕 🐕 that seems out of character 🤔
I'd not heard of this situation previously so thank you for sharing the details.
Creepy
Another amazing video! Wish you uploaded daily 😅
Couple things:
*1.* You sound like the robot love child of Billy Boyd & Stephen Hawkins 😂
*2.* I live near Craters of the Moon. This disappearance was *not* mysterious to us locals in any way. You can get lost and vanish from the face of the Earth 100ft from the trail.
*3.* It's pronounced */Boy•see/*
I do love your voice 🥰🥰🥰
A new video!!! ❤❤❤❤
yes!!!! new vid!!
Boise is pronounced "BOY-see." Great stuff as usual.
Been there. Cool place. It is easily possible that they could have fallen through a weak point into a lava tube and gotten stick. Or killed outright. The lava is sharp.
Can you do a long video on the disappearance of Johnny Goshe please?
Very good channel i have been binge watching your videos
They cared about the dogs, so they intended to come back for them. That's what I believe..
YOUR NOT POSTING ENOUGH CMONNNNNN
I have heard of people hearing something in the distance, something in distress. Maybe they went off the trail to help. And then became lost or injured themselves.
I think I recall that when I heard this story elsewhere, one of the women planned on going off-trail because some different or special kind of tree mold was only seen off-trail. Or maybe that she'd heard about that being the case, so it was assumed that's what she did. Something like that anyway.
I’m withdrawing badly it’s been 3 weeks
🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫 here's some chocolate, people say it helps.
Poor dudes bit off more than they could chew.
Please do a video on The Jeff Davis 8 that was based in Jennings, LA.
i would of used their own dogs to sniff them out, its amazing how much a dog cares for there owners they will not stop and give it all for them.
Great work-as always, surely people don't just go missing in the U.S though?
Your patreons are adorable
No more wolf howl?
The narratar has a funny dialect. Does anyone know where that is from? ty
They could have easily left the trail because of ones need to relieve themselves then lost their bearings and were unable to relocate the trail then fell victim to the elements and circumstances.
Hi Adam! Not complaining but no howwwwl lol..😊✌️♥️♥️♥️
They were ready to die in nature. They left on thier own terms.
If we don't make it alive, it's a hell of a good day to die

All our light that shines strong only lasts for so long
i thought this was an AI generated story or something because i thought this was gonna be on the actual moon 💀💀💀
It's a well documented story told by lots of RUclipsrs
Duh.....
Maybe they became ill for some reason...became delusional , disoriented?? Strange case for sure.
The searchers should have let the owners dogs out. They will find the owners faster.
Comment for the algorithm 👹
Day or evening is dependent on when I watch the video, not my geographical location.
Ufo picked em up took em to ganymede (1 of Jupiter's moons for the dummies)😂 think about it they were dropped or placed there via the void in the skies!!
Ageism in the thumbnail. The illustrations show two young, slim women with long flowing hair. The two real women in this tragedy were 40 and 50 years _older_ heavy set, out of shape, one limping with super short hair.
@nerevar8823 You certainly are.
Sounds very much like a suicide to me.
No provisions, no cell phones, no warm clothing or even a small tent for shelter. Dogs « taken care of » kind of.
Those ladies had more than a friendship and were not prepared to face old age which is very often more treacherous than any of the trails in the US.
I think it was aliens
What planet do you live on where 40 is "old age"???
