    Natural Features
Many campsites are shaded by trees and sit near the southwest side of the 300-acre Pinecrest Lake in Stanislaus National Forest. In this beautiful mountain landscape, wildlife viewing opportunities include marmots, squirrels, coyotes and deer. Stanislaus National Forest is situated in the central Sierra Nevada Mountains, between Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. The area boasts gorgeous views of snow-capped mountain peaks and California's Great Central Valley.
    Recreation
The Pinecrest Lake National Recreation Trail takes hikers on an easy 4-mile stroll around Pinecrest Lake. Rainbow trout is a common catch in the lake and swimming is enjoyed at the sandy beach. Educational programs are also a highlight of the recreation area. Bike rentals are on hand so campers can bike around the area.
Pinecrest Campground ranks among the most popular in Northern California. The campground is conveniently located close to Pinecrest Lake. Families can walk to the beach or over to the marina to rent a small boat. Water skiing and jet skis are not allowed on the lake. A favorite hike is the 4-mile circuit around the lake. A paved bike trail links Meadowview and Pinecrest campgrounds with the lake.

During the summer months, outdoor movies or ranger programs are offered every night at the amphitheater within walking distance of Pinecrest Campground. Fishing is a favorite past-time from boats, the shore or the designated fishing wharf. In the adjacent community of Pinecrest are a grocery store, sporting goods store, restaurant, bike rentals, and coffee bar. A snack bar is at the beach.
Campsites at Pinecrest Campground are arranged in 4 loops with A Loop being the farthest from the lake and amphitheater, but also the quietest. Most campsites have good shade. Some are close together. Those on the perimeter tend to have more privacy. Overflow parking has been moved to a location off the Dodge Ridge Road on Old Pinecrest School Road.
