  • The Cathedral of St Stephen recently reached a significant milestone with the grand culmination of its 150th Anniversary Mass. This special occasion not only honoured the rich history of the cathedral but also served as a testament to the enduring faith and unity within the community.
Throughout the past year, the Cathedral of St Stephen has been at the centre of a series of celebratory events commemorating its 150th anniversary since its Opening and Blessing. One of the most memorable aspects of this celebratory journey has been the travels of the Message Stick. This ancient and culturally significant instrument has travelled over 77,000 square kilometres of the Archdiocese of Brisbane, extending a heartfelt invitation to parishioners far and wide to partake in the festivities.
The Message Stick’s journey has been a unifying force, bringing together communities from all corners of Southeast Queensland. Its return to the Cathedral symbolises the culmination of this remarkable journey, leading up to a grand celebration on Pentecost Sunday 2024. It highlights the significance of this milestone not just for the cathedral but for the wider Catholic community as well.
The 150th Anniversary celebrations may have concluded, but we pray that the spirit of faith, hope, and unity continues to resonate within the walls of the Cathedral of St Stephen as it continues to stand as a beacon of light, welcoming all who seek solace, peace, and fellowship within its hallowed halls.
