  • This video reveals the damage that was incurred on Cielos Abiertos Iglesia located in La Esperanza, Intubica, Honduras during Hurricane IOTA.
The damage to the roof was caused by a couple of trees that fell on it during hurricane IOTA in the later part of October 2020. This hurricane hit Honduras at a Category 4 with winds over 140 miles per hour and dropping over 30 inches of rain. It was the second hurricane that hit Honduras that year. Hurricane ETA hit 2 weeks earlier as a Category 4 also dropping 30 inches of rain in a 2-day period. The rain soaked the ground and caused the roots not to hold the trees from falling in the extreme winds from the hurricane. After the removal of the trees from the roof, there have been temporary repairs done to the roof to stop water from entering the inside of the church, though the roof has begun to leak again. Rainstorms which are often and hard have caused water to seep under the roofing sheets and continue to cause the ceiling tiles inside the sanctuary to get wet and moldy. The congregation does not have the ability to make the necessary repairs to stop the water leakage.

The video was put together to go along with an estimate that is being shown to a donor. It was the only way of showing the video. The hope is we get the donation to repair the roof of the church and do away with mold issues the church now faces.
