I never understood the analogy of there being a thin line between love and hate, until my first love, love of my life crossed that line to hate. It made me feel like I was someone that I didn't recognize. I consumed myself and time with thoughts of ways to torture to the point of death but not allowing him to die, then doing it over and over again. That's what happens when someone you love crosses that line from love to hate when you are abused and hurt and you want to retaliate with everything you have inside you. I was with both of them a lot longer than she was with Johnny. 24 years later, I can say I don't hate the first one, but I don't care two shits about him. The other one is dead, and after his death, I let the hate go,because at that point it was only hurting me.

It does damage to a child growing up because they think they have no value and no self esteem. The cycle continues as they grow and they enter their own relationships because that's all they've known. I think people aren't taught this about relationships - our society tells us to stick with someone when they constantly hurt us, because love wins. That's not true, though, and Hollywood needs to stop making movies where people who are horrible to each other end up together anyway. There is a bit of monster in all human beings, but real monsters give into hearing those thoughts and giving them credence. It's been 30 plus years, I live 1200 miles away, I once thought I saw him in a store, I left the store and drove around forever, looking in my rear view mirror hoping I wasn't being followed before I went home and locked all the doors. I didn't go back to the store for over a week. I never understood the analogy of there being a thin line between love and hate, until my first love, love of my life crossed that line to hate. It made me feel like I was someone that I didn't recognize. I consumed myself and time with thoughts of ways to torture to the point of death but not allowing him to die, then doing it over and over again. That's what happens when someone you love crosses that line from love to hate when you are abused and hurt and you want to retaliate with everything you have inside you. Does that make you a monster or just a survivor who doesn't know how to separate the pain and healing process correctly?
My mom abused me for 18 years. I love her. It's been a long hard road for us. I think Amber took lessons from her,I'll leave it at that. When I was an adult, the two men I that abused me, I thought I was still madly in love, but I also thought I deserved to be abused. It wasn't until the end of both relationships, when I decided I wanted to live, that I really sat and thought about how I felt. I realized I hated both of them. The love had left a long time ago. I,too, had horrible thoughts of revenge and wishes of quick karma. When I left the 2nd relationship, my marriage, texting was new. I said horrible things in texts about him. Plotted to by drugs and plant them in his truck and call the cops,plots of switching his medication. But,yeah. No way after 6 years could I ever have said I still loved them. I was with both of them a lot longer than she was with Johnny. 24 years later, I can say I don't hate the first one, but I don't care two shits about him. The other one is dead, and after his death, I let the hate go,because at that point it was only hurting me.

You can't choose your family but you do have the choice to either live with the abuse or get out for your own sanity and well being. I had to do the same. My mother is still living but my sister asked if something happens to her did I want her to come get me, my answer was no. I've often said she has no heart and so evil the devil wouldn't have her. It does damage to a child growing up because they think they have no value and no self esteem. The cycle continues as they grow and they enter their own relationships because that's all they've known. We as survivors can be a shining light to the younger coming up and hopefully bring awareness that it's not normal and they aren't to blame. That's what I try to do by speaking out about what I have been through. The anger is normal we can validate our emotions that doesn't make us monsters we just have to learn to process the pain, hurt, and betrayal. In doing this we transform from our abusers victim taking back our power and become a strong survivor. You will never forget, but in time it will no longer consume you.
I think when you find yourself wishing to hurt someone, that you should take a step back and realize that you need to walk away from the whole thing. I think people aren't taught this about relationships - our society tells us to stick with someone when they constantly hurt us, because love wins. That's not true, though, and Hollywood needs to stop making movies where people who are horrible to each other end up together anyway. There is a bit of monster in all human beings, but real monsters give into hearing those thoughts and giving them credence. I hope, now, that you are able to let go of the pain and shut the door on it. It will always be behind the door, but it isn't worth your life to give into it.
