This was actually meant as a sort of "parody" on the Duracell commercial that also featured rabbit toys with drums, with the Duracell coming out the winner, of course...I think the makers of Duracell tried to sue Energizer for this...I don't remember if they won, however...
No. It was Energizer that trade marked their (copy cat) bunny and then sued Duracell so, they couldn't use theirs in the USA. Duracell still uses their bunny in other countries.
LOVE IT! When I was little in the '90s, retro was in, and these commercials came back. I remember putting a sign on the bathroom door that said "keep going and going and going" Leave me alone- I was 6.
I used to have crippled nightmare, about this thing,(The Energizer Bunny) when I was a kid. Something about that rabbit just creeps me out,the way he ware them sades, beat the drum, and the man in the background speaking,it keeps going and going. Yeah bring back scary moments when I was a kid. And I don't know why I was scared & had nightmares about it. Just waking up at the middle of the night just crying about it.
"No battery lasts longer than Energizer". This is clever marketing and it is done with other products such as pain relievers ("no pain reliever is stronger than..."). The average person would take this as meaning "longest" (or strongest). These statements might be true, but they're not complete. What they could say is "No battery lasts longer than Energizer. They may last AS LONG as Energizer, just not longer".
NO the claim they made when they meant longer is the shelf life too this was very important(don't want dead batteries when you need a flashlight) I have a 9 volt from 1989 28 years old. that still works with no issue what so ever.. rayovac boost big claims but they die quickly in my mouse I use Rechargeable that i bought in 2006 and they still work 12 YEARS OLD. well worth the 12$ that was paid for I also got another set in 2010 they still work too
I remember when this first came out...I was about 5 years old and it used to scare the crap out of me!!! I remember it always comming on when my dad was watching football and everytime it came on I would hide my face until it was over and cry really loud so I couldn't hear the pounding drums lol!
I felt the same way in the 90's when Nickelodeon showed it's theme song with those singing barber guys, dancing fruit and disturbing claymation scenes. It terrified the heck out of me from age four to age six
A message to everybody watching this: I remember seeing a commercial a lot back in the 90s that involved the Energizer Bunny marching into the Duracell battery and the copper top closing in on him and the tagline runs "Better Make It Duracell". I've been looking but I haven't found this commercial on RUclips. If anybody knows where it is, I want to see it again; it's as spooky or spookier than this one.
A lot of people believed that Energizer's standard AA battery was the strongest you could get, even though Duracell's AA lasts 50% longer. Never underestimate the power of advertising.
WHO THOUGHT THAT THIS VOICEOVER GUY WAS THE BEST?! "Yes, we need a voiceover that sounds like a creepy uncle in a basement telling a nine-year-old me to not tell anybody about 'basement playtime'"
The longest lasting commercial of them all. ^ ^ Actually, batteries of different manufacture have different good qualities (among the leaders.) Duracell may last longer in a straight long haul - but for occasional use others 'recover' better, they sort of depolarize themselves a trifle, get back a bit of capacity, lose internal resistance a bit... that can be a point. Depends heavily upon the device, and also its 'duty cycle' of use.
And now that bunny is playing it for 5 to 10 years and later on with aluminum batteries, it'll likely break a drum with one whack and play for... Probably 10 to 15 years.
Why did TikTok just send me down a rabbit hole (pun 100% intended) because of a Mandela effect of the battery placement on this rabbit? The battery is on his leg!? Could sworn it was on his back. 😯
I amused at all these Duracell vs. Energizer threads, because no one seems to know that Rayovac outlasts both of them! Tests have been done! As for me, I use Everready Gold, because i'm cheap. lol
This came out in 1989, the same year The Simpsons debuted, and fittingly so given how much the bunny is like that show: An idea that was cool and funny for a while, and then just went on way, way, WAY too long. Not the least bit surprised the audience cheered when he got blown up at the Emmys.
That mascot is used in different regions because Duracell has the rights to use their bunny mascot there. Energizer sued Duracell so they couldn't use their bunny mascot in the regions where Energizer has their bunny
@Count1980 Well here's why, you put Led Zeppline IV in the Duracell CD Player, and ABBA in the Energizer Player. For most people listining to ABBA for even one hour causes them to give up
the duracell batteries back in the day used to be carbon zinc while energizer had been making the superior alkaline batteries. that is why they could have claimed to be better.
