I thought I read a while back that bamboo roots were very deep and spread out. If I would if known they weren't I would have planted bamboo a long time ago. Thanks for the helpful info.
Bambusa bambos also known as Giant Thorny Bamboo or Indian Thorny Bamboo, is a species of tropical dense clumping bamboo native to Southeast Asia. This bamboo species was previously named Bambusa arundinacea and is often used for construction purpos0
love it. couple of vids back you were on the beach with the family was that a long tom? sayori? same thing? question is what did you catch it with? you rock, love the music too, tell her I think that's a great song.
Mahalo. She won her talent show singing that one. What I caught was an aha caught trolling from my kayak with a plug. Aha's pretty much go after anything. They put up a fun fight though.
I found your channel today & I’m binge watching all the bamboo videos. Do you have a reference for identifying types of bamboo? I bought 24 acres of undeveloped forest in Oklahoma a year ago and I discovered a grove of bamboo growing next to a stream. I have always heard how invasive it is but in a years time it doesn’t seem to have expanded a crazy amount or spread anywhere else on the property. It’s a good amount of bamboo and it’s growing very tightly so I need to thin it. I’m just wondering if all bamboo will grow into large diameter poles if grown correctly...? What I can see around the perimeter is up to around 3 inches in diameter and I’m assuming newest growth. Ty for all the info!
There are two types of bamboo. Clumping bamboo and running bamboo. Clumpers stay in a tight clump, runner spread everywhere but may be limited by water. I don't know what you have in Oklahoma but it's one of those two types. Also the size and diameter of the culm depends on the variety of bamboo. You won't get 8" diameter culms with running bamboo, but a clump that can make 8" diameter culms won't make any that big unless they are well fed. Did that make any sense?
@@HomesteadinHawaii Ty! I think it’s a clump as they’re all packed together tightly where you can’t see the center and nothing is shooting up outside the main group. I appreciate your response!
Has the big island still managed to maintain that "old hawaii" environment in recent years? Ive heard they got the fastest population of any other hawaiian island. Has there been a huge influx of people moving there lately, and has the island become to industrialized or do you sense that starting to happen? I reside in a fairly big city. Too many people, too much concrete, too much noise. Im through with the city life and want a complete opposite lifestyle now. A get away for good. I hope big island still has that countryside feel overall, with a lot greenlife, jungle, quiet, and areas with few people.
That was wonderful! (I subscribed immediately) Thank you.
Welcome aboard!
Mahalo Shawn for another great video!
Mahalo
Looking forward to the rest of your videos on Bamboo. Just the type of information I am looking for. Mahalo for sharing!

How many plants to plant per acre ?
It really depends on the species
Goodluck

Still country but less and less like "real" hawaii everyday.
Trying to find a scientific paper about the release of water to the soil by the bamboo in the dry season
I see it mentioned all over the internet, but I just tried searching for a scientific paper and couldn't find one, I would like to see proof as well.
where do you get your bamboo from brother?
I have some of my own and a few friends have a nice selection
Bomb video
Mahalo
Nice I thought you just leave it and it will grow
You can but if you want to harvest quality poles, management needs to happen
Where's my green wall?
???
This is bull. You need the correct building species of bamboo, which he doesn't name.
True not all poles will be main framing poles for construction, but the procedure for managing bamboo remains the same for all clumpers
