I love love this song the 80s had the best songs and the best bands they were happy upbeat I really enjoy watching you your very diverse in music it's nice that you appreciate other eras
This was huge! I remember this was big on MTV back when there were actually videos. If you want to hear something fun (forgive me if you have and I missed it) check out the song low rider by War (official video). Also, in the 1930’s there were a LOT of traveling circuses or carnivals and the… peep show.
Right?! And the kid was the youngest brother of Rosanna, David and Patricia Arquette, Robert. He became Alexis Arquette, but went back to being Robert before his death in 2016.
Fee Waybill (the singer) said in interviews that the lyrics were inspired by the peep show theaters on Kearny and Broadway Streets in San Francisco, particularly a really infamous one called the Lusty Lady (tag line "Naked, Naughty, Nasty"). These places had a raunchy "carnival" looking atmosphere on the outside with guys hyping the club to get you in the door (what Fee is trying to imitate in the video). The Lusty Lady doesn't exist anymore and the clubs that are still open have cleaned up a bit. The Hustler Club has made attempts at being more "upscale" but it's still a strip club when it comes down to it. The Hungry Eye and the Condor are still pretty raunchy. You always know when the bachelor party has taken a hard turn for the worse when you end up in that neighborhood! 🤣 I used to see kissing booths many years ago once in a while, usually set up at county fairs and whatnot and set up to collect money for charity or for the Firefighters Foundation. I don't the idea would fly in this day and age.
When my oldest daughter was born, 41 years ago (OMG! Where did the time go?) this song was my song to her... but I didnt know til MANY years later the song was about a exotic/lady of the night kinda thing. But it still stands.. She's a beauty, one in a million girl! Always
Love The Tubes! Have seen them many times in concert. SO much fun! Check out White Punks On Dope, Don't Touch Me There, Mondo Bondage, What Do You Want From Life.... WAY too many great Tubes songs to list...
I like "Come As You Are," "Talk To Ya Later," "A Matter of Pride," and "Sports Fans" too. I remember seeing the video for "Sports Fans" where Fee Waybill is full frontal nude, lol.
DID YOU NOTICE HoW THE YOUNG KID HAD TURNED OLD IN THE END? Favorite song of mine, but the video just tripped me out. Check it, how the kids whole life was about checking out women and then he was old...What's the gist of that y'all think?
Now this is a song! One thing I really admire about you and your brother, you both embrace and appreciate music for what it is. Genre, style, era nor chart performance makes any difference. You both explore and appreciate music and share it with everyone. Much love and respect to you both. This son, I remember hearing it as a child when it first released in the 80's and I loved it from the moment I heard it. Fast forward nearly 40 years, and my young son enjoys this song as I did, but he enjoys it in style riding next to me in my 95 corvette with the sport top open and the California sun shining down. My dad had an old dodge ram when this song debuted. I think my son is doing better than I did hah! But hey, great song choice!
The purpose of the video is that people will pay for anything...gossip, pictures, personal information. He's trying to show what PT Barnum made millions with. His famous quote was "There's a sucker born everyday". He invented the freak shows at carnivals and nomadic circuses... his most famous was The Fiji Mermaid, JoJo the Dog faced Boy, The Fat Lady...and yes, people would pay hard earned money to see these "anomalies".
Haha! Yes kissing booths were real but it wasn’t a big deal, just a quick peck and usually to raise money for a good cause. Dunking booths were the best, though!
Thanks Tim, good song, Keith was jamming when he heard this song. Yes they had booths to kiss a girl before our time, way back when!! at carnivals. ✌✌ Joan ❤❤❤ and Keith
Kissing booths were a thing. And the side show performers, the bearded lady, the tallest/shortest/fattest man/woman/horse/whatever. And when they could get away with it, by paying off the sheriff or making sure his men got a free ticket, the peep show around on the far side late at night, where you could see the, maybe not nude dancing women but well underdressed compared to anyone you knew in real life!
I love it when you jam to the 80's music. You always make me smile.

Second that Lowrider by War. Anything by War!
I also vote for Low Rider! One of the best funk songs of all time.
Low Rider isn't funk
Yes, kissing booths were very real and very normal at county fairs and carnivals. 😂😂
Yup! I remember them. Also at lots of high school/local fairs for fundraising.
Just some light prostitution you know
I remember this being on MTV all the time ⏲️
Did you notice the kid was an old man by the time the ride was done? This is so classic. Love it.

@@loristone9242 no, she didn't. She was Alexis until death.
He was a confused dude.

The Tubes were a Bay Area band. Jane Dornacker, a comedian who died way too young, was a backup singer with them.
I saw the Tubes in 1975 when I was a college freshman- White Punks on Dope was so funny!
Their song "Talk To Ya Later" is good too.
Love The Tubes! Have seen them many times in concert. SO much fun! Check out White Punks On Dope, Don't Touch Me There, Mondo Bondage, What Do You Want From Life.... WAY too many great Tubes songs to list...
OMG! GREAT suggestions...I totally forgot about these songs.

This is a favorite!!!! Brings me back!!!
That kid on the ride grew up fast! Lol
Let me know when you finally get to INXS…
Oh yeah! The One Thing by INXS would be a good start!
Third on INXS and Michael Hutchins bday as just a couple days ago. RIP.

Awww another great 80’s song 😊
Great song, marvelous album! In a way, it's frightening how relevant, on target the album is over a half a century later.
Great tune. So many contrasting parts and harmonic changes.
Back to the 80's Love that one!
1977 live album is the best.
Peep shows.... They were a thing😉😘
Digital Underground “Humpty Dance”. Black Sheep “The Choice Is Yours”. Snap “The Power”
Ronettes “Be My Baby “
The child in the roller coaster was the late Alexis Arquette.
Forgot about the Tubes! Thanks.
You have the awesome 😎 moves to this song!
My husband and I sing "She's a stripper! She's one in a thousand girls!" And we laugh and laugh every time.
big hit of the 80s the best music era
The bass drums are great in this vid. 😄
Oh the 80's...such a bizarre decade 🤣
Wasn't it though! 😆
💜💜💜💜
I've seen this video a million times (I'm old) and I never noticed the boobs on the drums. 😂

I'm not sure about a "kissing booth"~all I know is that in the hood, if you pay a girl to kiss her, it's called pimping or being pimped out! 😆
OK I know I'm being totally ridiculous here, but I have always thought Van Halen sang this song 🤦♀️
The boy was Alexis Arquette, Rosanna Arquette sibling
I heard that Toto's hit song "Rosanna" was written about her.
Best songs ever done about peep shows
😱🤣😘
Yes it was real called the kissing booth
This guy is clueless about the video section.
Do Tech N9ne-Slacker tho
