      Many thanks, I been tryin to find out about "long goat" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Chloetey Boer Goatify - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.

    I hear you about the stink and the self service! We had to put ditto in the pen up by the road because he was breaking down the door ! And even with the barn insulated and some heat this year..I don't want to breed the other girls until November/Dec..we think Periwinkle is already pregnant! Good Info Honey!

    Had a Nubian goat years ago for milk for a short while. Watching this tells me I am so goat ignorant. Though having a book on small livestock, this obviously shows the importance of hands on experience. Thanks for sharing. Be safe.

    • @dirtpatcheaven
      @dirtpatcheaven  9 лет назад

      +levimissy11 Our does have not come into heat until the end of December unless I keep a buck close enough that they can smell him, this year they came in in October with the little guy in the back yard for them to smell. Or yes, you could get the shot and force a heat, I have a friend that does that a lot with good results.

      1799 Thomas Jefferson said everyone should have a small farm. And he wasn't against industrialization. But said a man should tend to his farm before industry. Cause industry, wasn't secure. Time has problem I'm right. A farm, is more secure than industry.

    • @raybon7939
      @raybon7939 8 лет назад

      You get more return from your work on a farm than you, do in a company. Close to 67 percent I calculated. Cause of many reasons. Land is paid, no rent, slot of your animals can be sold, of course your products can be sold. Water, Sun, can be collected. Food of course is grown/ there's more too. But there's not question that the natural world. Is making, a huge comeback vs industrial world.

    • @raybon7939
      @raybon7939 8 лет назад

      I applaud your work. When you work remember cause this is very important. You are missing nothing zero for not following an urban industrial pursuit. So when it get think out there. Don't be indecisive. Keep growing an producing your farm. Cause you know what your doing something non of us have the guts to is. I'm building mine...slowly....Lloll...hopefully I can do it one day. I dream about it day and night. Being from NYC, miami. I'm a full blown 100 percent concrete child. So it's something that gives me much trepidation and equal fascination.

    I bought a Toggenburge/Oberhasli Buck about 4 weeks or so ago he is ruffly 7 to 8 months of age he was a spring baby after 3 days of being here he brought my pure bred Oberhasli doe which is 10 months of age into heat. He bred her October 1st and she is hopefully due by March 1st of 2016 of next year which is perfect for me as march is when my birth day comes around and that will be a perfect birth day present for me but hopefully we don't have to transport her due to us hopefully moving hopefully next year so hopefully when we move she has her baby or babies.
    I also have a pure bred Boer Doeling she is 6 months of age and she is pretty big.

      muscovy duck&chicken breeder large breed does are seasonal breeders. Bucks don’t bring them into heat. That’s what camelids like llamas and alpacas do. Miniature goat breeds (Pygmy and Nigerian) are more breed on demand.

      Problem is the silence. That worries me...Lloll...lack of hustle and bustle that defines us. Bit that's about it the rest I can get use too. But there's no doubt that in the city I'm on mat all day. Where as in a farm. I have chance. But not paying rent, growing food, and even more sunlight in my house. And no neighbors. No one has to sell me on the natural world or the farm. The silence, and the lack of synergy worries me. But there's no question urban life is unsustainable. The farm would save me 1000s of hours of work.

    • @raybon7939
      @raybon7939 7 лет назад

      When I say 1000s of work I'm talking about finding and holding jobs. To pay rent food electric water. All things that the farm provides.

    This is a topic that I am so green on. I have Saneen and want goats milk. These are my first. I had so many problems with the mama that I am scared of having them bred. Do you have an email I can send you pictures of what occurred? When I figure out how to do a video on it with jpeg I will. I can't afford high vet bills and if I listened to a certain group thats all I would have on a continued basis. All my information has been social media. The locals here are helpful once but not on a routine thing, they don't want bothered. I feel the seller was dishonest about this goat and I think she was bred too early from when she stopped milking her last kid. She was turning 2 when I got her and her second kid was my goat I put the balls on her horns, lol.

      if u r there to watch and help no one will get hurt. watch for a penetration and if you r worried separate them and reintroduce in 5 hours. don't worry, I have in 25 years never taken a goat to the vet until this year...it is usually so.cheap and easy

    • @dirtpatcheaven
      @dirtpatcheaven  8 лет назад +1

      +supriya sarkar She won't come back into heat and her belly gets bigger.

    • @Darksong1212
      @Darksong1212 4 года назад

      supriya sarkar if you think she’s close to kidding, check the ligaments between her back and tail. If she’s close, those ligaments will soften and “disappear”. She’ll also have some slimy pink discharge and may push her head against a post or barn wall . Sometimes they’ll stare into space when in labor.

  • @Darksong1212
    @Darksong1212 4 года назад

    If you want a doe out of that one goat, change bucks. Males determine what sex the offspring becomes. It’s the same with humans.

      +Greenback S. No, it isn't photo shopped. My senior bucks are this big. The one in the video is not a year old yet and thus is almost too short to get the job done. Goats can be very very large, in the photo that is a woman holding the buck, not a man, so you have to take scale into account.

    I was wondering. Isn't it possible to set up auto matic feeders for your animals. And then here's one question that has driven me wacky for years. Can't feed be bypassed with just scraps from the dinner tables. And also....from produce grown in your garden. Why??- would somebody??...buy feed...I could never??...understand that. Don't chickens , pigs, ducks geese, ,eat, anything, ,can't they be sustained, on veggies fruits fish??...would that decline their health. I guess that's the only question I really have. Just racking my min isn't there something that eliminates feed. I know- you can grow your own hey.

    • @dirtpatcheaven
      @dirtpatcheaven  8 лет назад +1

      +ray bon Food scraps in huge amount will attract flies and predators. Also, who has that many scraps? A chicken can live on scraps but you need a lot of scraps to feed twelve chickens. A goat eats a huge amount of greenery in a day and you would need a garden a couple of acres in size to feed her through the year. If you don't buy feed then you have to put in a lot of work creating food for animals.

    • @raybon7939
      @raybon7939 8 лет назад

      Yes your right/
      But at least you acknowledge
      Food can be created. Cause that's the route
      I want. Something. Where layout
      Would be 1 acre housing 1 acre
      Grazing water hey,
      Would be the other, 8. That's what I've had
      In my head for years.
      This thing??
      With buying feed. Def, not for me
      Cause then if a recession hits.
      Now boom. I'm at the whim, of the market. Whole idea of the farm for me would be keeping cost down. So that I can keep my prices down for when hard times hit.

    • @raybon7939
      @raybon7939 8 лет назад

      Buying , feed = dependency. That's?? What screams at me. Growing my own is freedom. Not stores etc..

    • @raybon7939
      @raybon7939 8 лет назад

      heres some more questions...
      number one can live stock mill around together. ducks geese goats cows..
      or they need to be seperate. would them being together cuase
      cross contamination,
      also, another question is,
      could'nt a goat kick a person while milking
      also
      the goat milk how long
      do you boil it
      also what do you do with all
      the extra milk, extra, eggs, other than sell them
      heres another question,,
      wouldnt the housing for animals,,
      to close to your main house
      give off smells,
      then heres another question dont these animals
      wake people up..
      here's another question, would it be possible..
      to tend to 10 to 30 live stock animals
      and still have a regular job..
      prob not,
      then how hardy are these animals
      do they get sick alot,,
      cuase then theres
      vet bills.
      is fencing expensive.
      so those are some quesitons i have
      i dont have any about land cuase i know alot about that. or house. but live stock
      maintenance. i'm at the stage now where i'm collecting tips from everyone. to put to together my final 2 to 5 acres.
      thanks for any tips..

      +supriya sarkar I train them by feeding them their best food when I milk. I don't take them out of the shed, I hook them to their feeding station and milk there. While training I make them a teeny bit hungry and make them clean all their food up so that by milking time all they can think about is their hay.
