In my unbiased opinion from a very neutral NYC. Southern University won this encounter, in a very big way! The music was dynamic and complex and just damn enjoyable. My regards to both great marching bands.

I think other bands try to out blow SU and that’s one of SU’s strong attributes and they have no chance with that because SU is clean with their power. In other words other bands stand a better chance if they go with arrangements and clarity, but even then SU has the upper hand because they do it all greatly.
Dega legit doesn't care how they sound. Like no concern given. If 80% of the notes line up during playback it's ok in their book. Sound quality? Tone? They off that.
Live is ALWAYS different from the recordings. Talladega did amazing. Straight up. I was there. But on this recording... It doesn't play like what was going on. Just asked the opinions of people who are there. Who are unbiased

The only reason Talladega sounds distorted here is because of the amount of volume that they were pushing out. They were pushing more volume than the human jukebox.

SU won without question. DEGA was loud but that was it. Balance, Blend, Pitch,Intonation, Tone quality were all non existent. It takes more than volume to win a battle. Dega wasn't much louder than SU yet the difference in sound is night and day. Admittedly SU had a few hiccups but for a college ensemble to produce the sound Dega did is a joke. I was more impressed with Landry Walker
SU won and this is coming from a former Grambling #WorldFamed Member. Dega, we know y'all have power but tighten up on the balance y'all. Some songs I had to listen to closely to know what it was but when Southern played, I knew what it was even though they came with that power as well. Good battle though. #hbcubandsmatter

Overall the Juke gets the dub. 'dega had some eye-raising moments and I give them all the credit for sounding very mature. I just was hoping it wasn't going to be a repeat of what Miles College was handed last year. Talladega hung, I'm impressed. They'll be in the top 5 for sure come the fall.

This was a battle of LOUDNESS. Funniest parts of battle were: at 9:51.....SU was Shook and Nervous and messed up....at 17:52 Dega tried to cut through SU and it didn't quite work out . They both sounded the same after awhile trying to out blow and cut each other off.

After becoming a Southern "Jukebox" band members, "All" suppose to be good musicians knowing the scales.... To be quite honest, preparing for a halftime show is much harder than a Mardi Gras parade. During football season, those members in SU band that didn't travel for Mardi Gras season put in alot of hours just to make all those designs on the field to make SU great. SU have an invitation to march in the Rose Bowl in "2020", so are you saying they're going to march with half the band? I think SU whole band should all travel together like they all play together the band room. It's a question I wanted to ask. I hope that everyone get a chance to enjoy and travel to all events like one big "Jukebox" family.

This was a battle of LOUDNESS. Funniest parts of battle were: at 9:51.....SU was Shook and Nervous and messed up....at 17:52 Dega tried to cut through SU and it didn't quite work out . They both sounded the same after awhile trying to out blow and cut each other off.

I don't think its that. I think it's a financial matter which it shouldn't be.
After becoming a Southern "Jukebox" band members, "All" suppose to be good musicians knowing the scales....
To be quite honest, preparing for a halftime show is much harder than a Mardi Gras parade.
During football season, those members in SU band that didn't travel for Mardi Gras season put in alot of hours just to make all those designs on the field to make SU great.
SU have an invitation to
march in the Rose Bowl in "2020", so are you saying they're going to march with half the band?
I think SU whole band should all travel together like they all play together the band room.
It's a question I wanted to ask.
