- Based on an ancient story about hunger and sharing, this animated video is part of Caritas’ “One Human Family, Food for All” campaign. The “allegory of the spoons” teaches us that when we struggle to feed only ourselves, everyone goes hungry. But when we focus on our neighbour’s hunger, we discover there are ways to feed everyone.
Around the world, Caritas helps people so that they can feed their families. Learn more about our anti-hunger work at CaritasFoodforAll.

Well that just isn't logical
This is a correct principle and a universal one. It is described most fully in the new little book, PRIOR UNITY. The principle actually applies to Humanity in general, to all of our activities. We are one family, always already united. We do not need to do anything to create unity. It is here now. We need only acknowledge it and work together, cooperate with each other, tolerate our differences, and live peacefully accordingly.
Never turn your back on family, even when they hurt you. Never let life get the better of you. And if you remember nothing else, remember to find time to eat together as a family, even when times are rough; especially when times are rough. There's no lack of painful things in this world, but hunger and loneliness must surely be two of the worst. Thanks to you, my precious family, I didn't know a moment of either of those the last ninety years.
Love you all.
Good bye.
Finding myself back at this video while I’m in a really rough patch. The video was just really important to someone I care about, so I guess I naturally came back to it. It not only reminds me of them but of everything we should be doing in this world. :)
Great message in this short clip. I wish we ALL could learn to do that... Instead, most would rather kill or watch others get killed over what we could ALL share equally and as equals....
I wouldn't say most people. As humans it's in our nature to share, some have lost their way or have been raised through years of neglectful habits.
The World is for all of us and should remain ours. If humanity strives to Work together to solve current global issues.
The World resources should cater for all and co operation and co existance is a must for us to preserve humanity for future generations.
What a wonderful video!
This piece of work tells me that if I concentrate on myself alone there wont be any expected result, on the contrary I will be facing death process. But if my attention is directed towards others, not only others needs but also my needs are perfectly satisfied. Thanks for your noble works.
ur late on ur essay
Yes I know, necro post. But you see, it's not about just helping your neighbor. It's about cooperation, that if we work together we can help both ourselves and each other.
This scared me more than it should have.
Bill gates of hell
at my school at service we were talking about friendship and Mr jones(head teacher)found that video and now it IS one of the things that we always watch everyday when we come to school and when school ends
a message for humanity and a lesson that we should all learn
Desde Colombia muchos vemos la vida así. La esperanza sigue latente en nuestros corazones. Good job!
Yeah, but there's always that one jerk who will knock over the entire bowl into the abyss just to spitefully make sure everyone is as starving as he is.
Its always someone else. I never heard this being said : "I would knock it down so that we all starve". Think that that person is you, be that person, would you do it ? What made you do this?
barrdackless don’t be naive, some people would do that lol. The world has characters who surpass YOU in benevolence and in malice. The more you live the more you see both. Both are unexplainable because they can go so beyond sometimes. Like it won’t make sense type of deal. The type of stuff that makes you say “you gotta be kidding”.
@@theoriginaljean3917 I invited you to the opposite part of that argument. Your response gives away the fact that you didn't engage in it.
I want you to think you are the evil person that does that. To simplify the problem think there is no random choice. You do it, you break the bowl, all people starve including you. In your mind that is the best strategy. How would you arrive to it. If you say I wouldn't you lost at this exercise.
barrdackless for a person to do this, they must be filled with grudges, have a real bad temper, or have some sort of mental/thinking dysfunction. Also, a person could be pretending to teach the group a lesson by making all pay... so, that is how I think a person commits such acts.
@@barrdack Given enough people there will definitely be someone who would be so hateful and short sided that they would rather strike out at an enemy and see them suffer, vs working with them for mutual benefit.
I love this and thank you for this simple illustration of this important story. One for all and all for one!
It speaks a lot about we, as citizens of the world, must strive to work on. One person at a time, in a just culture.
It only taught us a lesson that being greedy won't do us good instead try to help each other.Hand on hand!
:) although I still feel sad for the guy that lost his spoon I mean he did nothing..
Love it. Powerful message.
Yeeeeees! This is a great short video. everyone can understand, no one can say that they did not know :D well done :)
I'm here after the earthquake in Türkiye as an earthquake victim and this video is more meaningful now ❤️
¡EXCELENTE MENSAJE!!!
Senza parole, forte significato simbolico.
Not going to lie, they can actually feed themselves by using both hand to pull the spoon next closer to them as you would when you pull a rope towards you. Just pull the spoon towards you with both hands then pull it back out when you need to get some more soup, but I do get what they are trying to convey. Nice message
Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno ,all for one and one for all
Thanks for the video clip. A timely one for reflections.
Be kind, and think collectively.
Don't let the world make you a moody.
Don't let the pain make you hate.
Don't let the bitterness steal your sweetness..... be kind.
Great video, you can say it louder, but not clearer.

If we just help each other everyone can thrive.
We're all in it together!

I love the message and I enjoyed it. The music is also very wonderful.
Excellente vidéo à partager.
Brillante alegoría.
Todos dependemos de todos.

No hate here only love, great to see it
Excellente vidéo. Merci.
Wonderful!
.
Always be the person who always shares.
The reason for each share given, it's not just to benefit someone you give to.
It's also can change the situation around you too..
I remember this story. I've always liked it.
But what if they feed the evil one first?
thank u , it is a part of my presentation for now (marketing- research)
thank u for the value
thank u for the service
good job this has great animation
Ever wonder why God made everyone else’s food smell better than the dish you made? It’s because He wants us to feed & serve one another - not help ourselves! Jesus told us to feed His sheep! ♥️
I wonder...
Why in every video even as good and powerful as this, there are some random people who hit dislike button?
the kind of people who think "then people will just mooch off me and be lazy"
There’s actually a good reason. Why couldn’t those people just grab further into the spoons and choke up the spoon and get their hands far enough towards the scooping part and the eat it?
No ones that stupid, yet for some reason in the animation, they are.
one of the best videos ever :)
we're not alone there....
Nice and touchy video, maybe you can share this to Nestlé, P&G, KFC and more, they have so much to share and bring faster results to this campaign... apart of common people of course. Or maybe Monsanto, because they seems needy with their modified seeds in places like Africa, for example...
what has quarantine got me watching today
Beautiful video
A big salute to the creator
Beautfiul, if everyone would just do this in their neighborhood...
Why wouldn't you just hold the spoon closer to the head
Bellissimo !!!
Thanks for the visualization
such a powerful and amazing message ! pass it on!
Universal truth 'feed life save life'
BRILLIANT!
They could have moved the spoon closer to them by adjusting the position of their hand nearer to the spoon patiently each time.
It's cute that you COMPLETELY missed the point of this video.
@@Vampcurse Meh. The video loses its punch by leaving out the tid bit, that in the original story, the handles delibrately grew away from their Owners' mouths.
wowww great video
grazie!!! stupendo!!!
This was great.
Gracias
very nice video ❣❣❣
i searched for different thing and found this. pretty nice
Hi, can I download this and listed on my Facebook page and tagg your Facebook page for credit? It's brilliant xx
I believe this is the masterpiece behind the movie "platform"
Gay
Vural Eser I just finished watching the film, and was thinking about it and remembered this parable! (my pastor told it to us once). They are very similar and give you so much to think about...
Can I use this video?
Were now making the video of consideration in korea,
and it is good for our video.
(were in the middle school in korea)
yes please do
Day the earth will become heaven, if this attitude comes to all human beings by breaking the borders of countries, religions, caste, colors, community ....
earth is heaven dumbass
You know they can just roll the spoon over them. Idk how to explain this but just make the spoon shorter by pulling it back and drink the soup like it's a bowl
I had heard a story that is exemplified in this video. A man went with an angel to hell and they saw people sitting around a large table with long spoons and were unable to feed themselves because of the length of the spoons. Then the angel took him to heaven. In heaven there were people sitting around a large table with long spoons ... the mans asked the angel "It is the same as in hell." The angel said, "Not so, here in heaven they feed each other."
Como a minha professora acha essas coisas?
Que bonito 🎉🎉
Nice 3D work :)
Beautiful, but it doesn't make any sense. Dreaming is nice but only know-how and practical solutions will do some good.
Lindo demais!!!
Yep. Things work a lot better when humans think this way.
in my school we were learning about something related to this then they put this video
It's a great concept but in reality why didn't they just move their hands down the spoon when they scooped some?
Yeah, no ones that stupid.
But I think in the parable, the room was really tight, so in real life (not the animation) if they tried to choke up the spoons, the handle would bang against the wall and it wouldn’t work.
So this animation was missing something, a tight wall making the room very small
vídeo interesante y positivo
Enseña mucho este video
I like this video. :)
If only things in life were this simple. People will argue against healthcare as a universal human right and increasing taxes to cover public services while liking this video.
What do the longness of the spoons represent in real life? Why is it easier to feed other people than yourself?
It represents human skills, virtues, qualities, strengths and weaknesses. A lone predator such as shark or a lion have instincts, environment, claws, muscles, senses and teeth that allow them to feed themselves, it's in their nature.
We are different, we have consciousness and intellect. We have not great muscular power but have great precision, we can be musicians, surgeons, bakers, waiters, plumbers, engineers... it's in our nature and capabilities to do things that serve others. We are "designed" to work as a community and to behave socially, the same way ants and bees do.
99.9% of the people do works that serve and give wealth to other people. If you're an employee, an engineer, a programmer, a cook, a nurse, a lawyer, whatever... your work brings benefits to other people (your employer mostly... or your customers if you're more lucky) more than it does to yourself.
Currently people who benefit the most from our work are bankers and some powerful people who live in a parasitic role. But this could change if we put aside our egoism (another of the human qualities/characteristics) and share what we produce in a more intelligent and fruitful way.
So the length of the spoons is both a limitation (we can't live isolated) and our greatest gift which allows us to do wonderful things in helping each other.
a brazilian famous writer, Machado de Assis, wrote a theory that he called "humanitism" he wrote that as animals, we will always fight for food, land, water, etc.
and if over a mountain, that divided two tribes there was a potato plantation, if them tried to divide the crop among all of them, soon there was not more potatoes, so the two tribes had to fight for them and, to the winners the potatoes.
this movie show us tha we can feed another one and if the food ends, we can get more food.
Very Good!
