I’m wondering only because I’m getting older and my eyesight is failing. if someone like you who has a pleasant voice could do an audio book version of this new catechism. It would be truly helpful to those of us who are used to be protestant for many years and now want to convert, But don’t have enough information and especially those like me at 70 my eyes just won’t let me read very long. Thanks for the program always enjoy it.

He's so smart and laughs at the fact that many protestants think that they teach isn't already taught in the Catholic Church. I hope that I can find some common language used in protestantism like "being born again" or "accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior" that we all know Catholics believe 😊

@DouglasBeaumont we need a book on apologetics for kids. We often think that they don't understand, but they do. I think that at least getting them acquainted to the most used language by protestants so they don't caught off guard would be helpful. Pictures are also helpful for me to explain the purely Catholic dogmas. Protestants get trained from childhood, I feel like Catholic kids need to be equipped to defend our faith in a charitable way

I went through the Father Schimt catechism in a year with my 2nd edition catechism of the Catholic Church I have had for years and it tracked exactly with the father’s subjects from beginning to end. So the was a very little difference between the ascension version. I think it is more elaborate and perhaps easier to use, and the map it comes with would have been useful. I found the catechism to very faithful to Catholic teaching and it was a wonderful experience for deepening your Catholic faith.

Thanks for the review. This new publication looks wonderful. I was wondering about your view on Catholic scholarly study bibles?
I personally, am yet to find a Catholic study bible that is close to the Protestant ESV study bible by Crossway in terms of comprehensive notes, charts, diagrams, various articles, as well as maps throughout, not just at the back etc. It is also more of a 'word for word' rather than 'thought for thought' translation. I have watched many videos on youtube about the ESV and it being the most comprehensive in terms of study tools. I have the larger study version, massive thing, but so well planned out. I also appreciate that even though there a significant differences in Protestant and Catholic faith, they acknowledge the Catholic point of view in their commentary articles.
Why hasn't the oldest and largest Christian denomination, the Catholic Church, supplied a similarly well crafted Study bible? Ignatius Press are 'suppose' to be releasing a complete study bible to go along with their highly praised NT one written by Scott Hahn...but who knows when and if it will be as well laid out, and how many scholars are involved?
If there was a Catholic study bible out there like Crossway's ESV I'd prefer that, being Catholic, but I know of none... I find this aspect of the Catholic faith to be dissapointing...
    Thanks.

    • @DouglasBeaumont
      @DouglasBeaumont Год назад +2

      GREAT QUESTION!
First, I understand your frustration and I share it - but the issue is not a simple matter of "Evangelicals have it and Catholics do not."
Second, the ESV study Bible was my favorite as an Evangelical. When I got the Catholic Study Bible hoping for something similar I was gravely disappointed. All of the NABRE translations are required to come with the modernistic notes typically associated with liberal protestant skeptical "scholarship." It is truly sad the Church has bought into that garbage. (BTW, there IS a Catholic ESV! See my review: ruclips.net/video/n9RjsMvCpA4/видео.html). I reject the NABRE and all its works. ;)
Third, the Church has some great commentaries on Scripture (see the Navarre commentary for example). I think the basic problem is that the Church has TOO MUCH! It's hard to consolidate 2,000 years of thinking into footnotes. For example, Ignatius's study Bible is top notch content-wise but as you noted, it's massive. If they ever get the entire Bible into a single volume it will have to be either gigantic or printed with miniscule text on onion-thin paper!
Fourth, the best single-volume full study Bible remains the Didache from Ignatius Press. It's the RSV translation (the academic predecessor of the ESV) and its notes are keyed to the Catechism (what more could you want for study notes?). Check it out: amzn.to/3bBKwyA

For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments." I use the Divinum Officium web site or app set to Divino Afflatu. For Catechisms there are many available pre-1962, Council of Trent, Baltimore, Pius X. We don't need Francis's schlock memory holed, Newspeak, Orwellian Bibles, Catechism, etc.

I just download the Dogma of the church, and read the Bible. It's good they didn't update the catechism, though. I don't see the Catholic Church as an authority. I see many grasps at truth, but many corruptions of the Apostolic Faith. I think the church makes true converts and is good for some people, but like anything else, it establishes error, which I find the Bible is more Authoritative than the Church. And the Apostolic Ministry and prophets. Like I'm raised Lutheran, but there's a lot of established custom in the church I divert from. For some reason people find authority in men, and that's when the faiths falter. It needs to be established on the person of Christ alone, revealed through the apostles and prophets. It's His ethos. Not Francis or Luther or Calvin.

@@chrisg0001 God apportions the administration of His kingdom to His saints. Plus, the Gospels are eyewitness accounts, all corroborating one another. We know exactly who wrote them, and when, through Papias, and the people who knew Jesus, those are the teachings they passed down. That's iron clad.
Whether it convinces you or not, that's not the point. The point is, you have no rational or empirical grounds not to believe. This is just the beginning of it, too. There's myriads more to go over, that corroborates the Bible, and we don't need to just take it at its word, it's literally being written at the time of those events, and we know so, because we unearth things from archeology that prove it.

CCC has a lot of good stuff but the gobbledygook commentaries simply undermine a good number of Catholic doctrines. Fine to have it if you already know the faith, but it's better to have it in connection with other Catechisms like Trent. Aquinas, Pius X and summaries like Canon Ripley's "This is the Faith" None are perfect but it's best to be thorough.
