    What's funny about last night is everyone expected Keuchel to shut down the Yankees...what no one was paying attention to was Tanaka whose ERA since the all Star break is 0.96 with a 7-1 record...he pitched far better than Keuchel...and Severino is ready for the Verlander matchup...Verlander threw 124 pitches in game 2.

    • @Sam_on_YouTube
      @Sam_on_YouTube 7 лет назад +3

      Gurvinder Parmar They needed Verlander to go 9 because they didn't trust their pen. The old Yanks knew how to beat the best pitchers, take long at bats and wait them out. Then beat them in the late innings if the manager takes them out too late, or beat the pen if the manager takes them out earlier. Either way, just keep it close and keep the pitch count high.
      With so many pitches in his last start, there's no way he goes 9 again, especially as the Yanks are all hitting better now than they were in game 2. If Sevi can keep it close tomorrow, the Yankees can win that game. And Sevi's been awesone his last 2 starts since he got over his wild card jitters.

    • @GSP-76
      @GSP-76 7 лет назад +2

      Sam Yup...Verlander's arm can't possibly be ready for a long grueling battle...if Yanks can do as you said - keep the pitch count high, Astros will probably start making crazy moves in the pen to save the season...Yankee pitchers are all well rested and kicking some serious ass lately...I'm thinking this series is over on Friday...but let's see how it goes.

    • @Sam_on_YouTube
      @Sam_on_YouTube 7 лет назад

      Jay Lee Tanakas best start of the season was his last one. Now his 3 post season starts have been just as good giving him 4 great performances in a row. Right now, he's our #1 guy. But Sevi's not far behind at #2 and CC is only #3 because it's hard for him to go more than 75 pitches at his age. Gray is a great #4 who would be #1 on a lot of teams.
      For all the credit their bull pen has gotten, and deservedly, their starters have stepped up this post season and, with a couple of exceptions, put on quite a show.
      But still, the pen deserves tremendous credit. Their starters can't give the same length as some other teams' can. They are able to shine in part because we don't need length from the starters. Give us between 4 and 6 innings a night and the pen can handle the rest.

    • @SuperJay12jay
      @SuperJay12jay 7 лет назад +5

      Did someone say Severino is the ace? Twins 1/3 inning, Indians 4 inning, Houston 4 2/3 innings. Is he 'not far' behind Tanaka? Do you live under rock? Looks more like a AA player. ROFL!!!!!!!

    • @Sam_on_YouTube
      @Sam_on_YouTube 7 лет назад

      Jay Lee He's not Verlander. The Yankees don't have guys like that. Fortunately, with their pen, they don't need them. Sevi's generally good, often great, but can go south quick. He pitched well his last 2 starts. He was taken out early last time because they were worried about a health issue that turned out to be nothing and their pen gives them that luxury.
      That's enough to qualify as not far behind Tanaka. Tanaka has been fantastic, but this has been his best stretch all season. He isn't generally speaking reliably better than Severino.
      Tonight, Girardi should have taken Sevi out earlier. He should have had Robertson up at the first baserunner in the 5th and brought him in with 2 guys on.
      Still, Verlander can't go 9 again. He showed cracks last inning and he won't make it all the way after pitching 124 pitches last time. After Verlander, Houston has nobody. This was always going to be the tougher of the two games for the Yanks because of Verlander, but they are still VERY much in this game.

      There isn't supposed to be a big homefield advantage in a 7 game series. It's supposed to allow the best team during the series to win, regardless of their record coming in. There's no way to remove all advantage and so they give whatever advantage is there out as a reward to the team that did better in the regular season, increasing the odda that the better team wins. But they don't want them to win because of home field either.
